Unique and Encouraging

This app is not just another reading app. The speech to text technology is far superior than any other apps we’ve used before. As an educator, it took some time for me to get used to the how the app worked, but once we got the hang of it, we immediately begin to see the benefits. The most notable benefit is that it enforces the correct pronunciation of words. I’d highly recommend it! The app is geared towards younger children, but it’s also great for someone who may be learning English as a second language. It is also help to build confidence in children who need to speak up when reading.

Helping your child read with readability

What I loved about this app is that readability really allows your child to read books and passages that are at a level they are at. The book highlights the words your child is supposed to be read Reading aloud and as it listens to your child’s words it will help turn along too. For example, if you cannot A specific word a message will pop up prompting you to ask for help by clicking on the speaker button and it will allow your child to hear what they are supposed to be reading. This is a great app I highly recommend.

App is not ready for what it promises

The comprehension questions are garbage. There are not settings to change the amount of comprehension questions, either. We only tried out 3 books before calling it quits for the 5th grade reading level when it asked a question for something the book never referenced. The read along A.I. tutor allowed my daughter to say all of the harder vocabulary words wrong (like she was wayyy off) yet it kept telling her that she missed the basic words (like “say thee” when she said “the” perfectly fine). My daughter and I were excited to try this app, but it was very discouraging and frustrating. I love the idea of this app, but it is no where near ready to do what it is promising it can.

Best of this type of tech

Having an app listen for accuracy and provide feedback is a tall order. Although this will not replace a person it’s the next best thing. Are there times the app does not register what your child is saying and cause frustration? Yes. Is it still worth it? Yes. The benefits of this app far exceed the hiccups. If your struggling to stay accountable with reading with your children nightly I urge you to try this app. My kids are reading more than they ever have which is so important in developing fluent readers. The data sent to my app keeps me on track in keeping them on track and helps me stay informed on how they are doing. The ability to have 3 readers for one price is a plus as well as all the accessibility features that allow my child with a learning disability make the changes needed to help her excel. My kids enjoy the wide range of reading material. Love this app and am excited to see the tech in this area grow in efficiency and accuracy.

Great for helping kids level up their reading

My son is a strong reader, but Readability has given him the tools to improve his skills even further. He receives immediate feedback and one-on-one attention via the app, which allows his skills to grow faster than they can in a classroom that has attention split between 20+ kids. The app is easy to use, and the comprehension checks help to make sure kids aren’t just reading the text but actually understanding it. I highly recommend this app for anyone who wants to work on reading skills with their child.

Great concept but apps not there yet

Homeschool mom here with a struggling reader. I love the concept of the app but the app needs a lot of work. It doesn’t give the reader enough time to sound out the words, when the reader does sound out the word the app would register the first letter sound of the word and the app would register the word as if the child said it when they didn’t and the app would move on to the next word. It would take sounds or noises and register it ad a word and then move on. The app didn’t give my child enough time to figure out the word and would give him the answer. Which I don’t mind but I would rather my child figure out the word himself and the app not give the answer unless my child taps on the word himself asking for assistance. The books also are not great quality. My son became frustrated with the app within 5 min of using it for the first time, and that is the worst thing for a struggling reader. I’m teaching my child to have grace with himself cause he has dyslexia and adhd so reading does not come easy for him and he can get discouraged and frustrated really fast, and I want him to love to read. If they get easily frustrated or bored then he won’t enjoy to read. Your asking way too much money for you app when it needs a lot of work.

Great for students!

As a teacher and a parent, I had the opportunity to try this app with both hats. My son really enjoys the choices he had and the feedback as he read. The parent side of me liked the analytics this app provides and hearing my son read out loud is important to me.The teacher side of me sees huge potential for lower grade students to help improve their reading. For teachers, this app provides lots of good data to help students improve reading and comprehension skills.I highly recommend this app as both a parent and a teacher!!

Love this app!

I just wanted to take a moment ,and say you took my kiddo .Who was beginning to hate reading! Who Could barely read a kindergarten book in second grade .To a child who is excited and finally figuring it out. We tried Phonics, reading out loud everyday ,and ABC mouse nothing was retaining. However thanks to the program she is now doing 100% and just got to level two and I am ecstatic! It’s no longer a fight and she isn’t crying anymore . Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Fot keeping the app simply reading. No Pets no coins no songs just reading !! She is showing improvements daily and went up a level in a month !! 😁

Not useful

It doesn’t correct mispronunciations. In fact, it doesn’t pronounce some words correctly either. The comprehension is useless, as it doesn’t take incorrect answers. It will give the answer to you at some point. This means comprehension is always 100%. The statistics reports are never accurate, i set goal of 60 mins daily and 300 mins weekly. The report has goal of 1200 mins weekly. The good part is it sometimes highlights skipped words, it counts words per minutes and it has had good book content so far. Books appear to be age appropriate. While there are “good” points for the app, it would warrant 5 stars for a free app. This is not worth $20 a month. It gets 1 star for missing out on the most important items needed for reading, coaching, evaluating comprehension and tracking progress.

Not great

I REALLY wanted to like this app because it had everything I’ve been looking for in a reading app for my son. Unfortunately the voice recognition needs a ton of work. We tried it out for about 15 minutes before uninstalling. It would often count the words he said completely wrong as correct, and then when I tried to correct him it would count even more words randomly as being correct that we didn’t even get to yet, and then as he tried to catch up again then it would start auto reading the newest words before he even got a chance to get to them. This happened over and over again in that 15 minutes until he got so frustrated we just uninstalled.
