Slow performance, bad UI, broken sync

So many issues. Sync shows conflict resolution pop up on every open even if nothing was changed. The UI is full of minor visual and interaction issues, and is generally ugly and doesn’t follow Apple’s HIG. Actual terminal performance is terrible, just rendering an htop screen takes a good portion of a second, compared to a few frames in Termius.Really lacks the polish I usually expect from Panic. Sync is nice when it works, but beyond that there’s nothing worth using this over Termius’s free tier for. The soft keyboard extras are not as feature-rich or customizable as Termius. I wanted to love this app but as-is there just isn’t a great SSH solution for iOS still.

Why is this app making random outbound connections?

Very shady for a sensitive security app to be making unsolicited third party connections. It should only be reaching out to servers I explicitly connect to. Developer doesn’t seem to be privacy minded.Edit: You can say that you care about privacy but as long as your app is making connections that I did not initiate, it means very little. First, it should be opt-in, not opt-out, because by the time the user navigates to the option to opt out, it has already sent some information out to third parties. Second, even with the setting toggled to opt out, it’s still opening random connections, so this setting is insufficient anyway. Earlier versions never did this.

Good, But Flawed

I’ve been using this a great deal recently to work on remote servers, and it’s excellent, but it does have a few flaws.1. Even when using monospaced fonts, it loses track of exactly where the cursor should be, and the cursor can end up offset anything from half a character to several characters from where it should be.2. It can become confused as to just how large the terminal window is, resulting in having to blind-type because the cursor is *under* the on-screen keyboard. In both cases, tricks that’d fix a real terminal (typing ‘clear’ or ‘stty sane’) don’t fix the problem. Closing the session usually fixes the first problem, but trying to fix the second can result in the server menu locking up and the program crashing. Finally, not a problem, but I would *love* to be able to have some form of ‘scp’ built-in to transfer files from Files or Photos - maybe sandboxing prevents it, but even having an option to send a file to Prompt, then select within Prompt from files that had been sent to scp to the current host would be great.

Full featured terminal for iPad with some shortcomings

I really love Prompt (along with many other apps Panic makes). This app gets me closer to an iOS only work environment - with a few shortcomings:1. I wish I could specify how many rows of history were preserved in the terminal - it looks like it only keeps ~90 rows or so, often I need to copy/paste hundreds/thousands of rows from terminal into spreadsheet2. Keyboard navigation - using ALT + Arrow Key doesn’t behave the same way as the MacOS terminal. I couldn’t figure out any way to quickly navigate around the text input, causing frustratingly slow editsI love the feature to keep the connection alive in the background! If these suggested changes are made I would rate this app 6/5

Does the job, does it well.

Perhaps the most crucial app on my iPad Mini. Deals with the space- and UI constraints in a sensible way. I actually love the way that I need to re-authN to the app each time I switch to it (and that biometric is an option for authN), and the fact that the devs took pains to prevent data leakage via app-switcher thumbnails. Just enough assignable keys to drag heavily-used symbols (pipe, underscore) up and out of where Apple buried them on the default keyboards. Finally, very pleased with Prompt 2’s (so far, fully-transparent) IPv6 support. I’d recommend it to anyone who needs SSH on the go. Kudos!

Review update

I wrote an earlier review that I cannot locate but stated only one issue with this app, the termination of sessions. The developer responded and provided an acceptable answer. The fault is not with the app but with Apple's regulations which force developers to comply with a ten minute background process limit. This should be a setting I can override. If I want a background app to run indefinitely, discharging my battery regardless, I should be able to.Five stars for this app, best SSH client for iPhone and iPad.

Average at Best

It okay. It will get the job done in a pinch but for the price paid its not worth the cash. For iPhone i think it does a good job but it really falls short with the ipad os experience. There will be maybe 1 update a year and still an very unpleasant experience to try to use this app with Apples Magic Keyboard. Sure its fine with my fingers on something small but I have a Pro level device, and paying Pro level prices for this app and it’s nowhere near something id trust to take on vacation with my as my only computer in case something goes wrong at the office. It is polished yes. But I was extremely disappointed after a year with this app on the iPad Pro 12 inch

Cannot use Emacs with it

This app works great as a basic SSH client. But if you use a external keyboard and use Emacs as your terminal editor, Prompt 2 will not work because it will not interpret the Option key as a meta key, but instead will just insert “funky” characters. I asked the Prompt 2 developers about re-binding Option to a Meta key, and their answer was “I’m afraid there’s no way to change/bind/unbind keys on the keyboard right now. … Your best bet in this case is to use the on-screen keys to use meta or ESC.” They must have never used Emacs, because clicking on-screen for a meta key is not even close to a solution.

Way cool and wonderfully functional

I am still getting used to the amazing concept of ssh-ing into a server on an iPad. The terminal emulation has so far proven to be faultless, and the interface works well. With a Bluetooth keyboard, it's as functional as a laptop. I was demonstrating how data were being written to a MySQL database by a balance, and being read and updated from a FileMaker database, all on my iPad. Amazing. You can even store a public key in a saved server, which in my case skips me around the two-factor authentication hassle.Being bugged to switch back to Prompt to keep it connected is making me crazy. I have had to do that a number of times while writing this review, and the App Store app stops taking keyboard input when I switch out. Sigh. It's an unavoidable restriction imposed by Apple. If the programmers at Panic are ever sitting around trying to think of a bone to throw us users, the ability to change screen colors (background, type, etc.) would be cool, or the ability to create themes (or even a few more themes) would be nice.

Good App, but have bugs

This is one of the best iOS terminal App, and another good Panic app. It makes my iPad Pro a very useful terminal machine which I can use to service my service when I am traveling.Found a bug. In an active session, the bottom line(s) will become invisible when you switch the input methods. This is a very annoying bug. Please fix it.Another suggestion, please consider to support mosh. Thanks.
