Getting there!

Still needs work (public transit, less confusing interface, faster search and routing), but this app has come a very long way in a very short amount of time (you are all doing great!)Depending on where you are OSM quality can vary. If you’re from a place where it’s not great, consider trying to add your favourite places to the map! It’s actually a lot of fun (kind of like a weird sort of geocaching) and a great public service.

Great for cyclists.

I found this map to be awesome for cycling. Once you put in your directions you can view lots of details about the route that are not available in other maps like google and definitely no Apple. Things like the type of road surface. Asphalt, concrete, dirt etc. Max and minimum altitude, along with elevation gain and loss plus a detailed elevation profile. Unlike google maps, you get this info in the car drive mode and not just the bike. The map is very customizable so it may be frustrating to use initially, but if you spend the time to learn how to use it, you’ll be rewarded with getting detailed info not found in other maps. I gave it 4 stars because they could have made the navigation around the map a little more intuitive to use.

Does not support Addresses intuitively out of the box.

Seems to work great, but we can’t switch from apple or Google apps because my family is too used to being able to type in addresses as “111 Street city state country” the maps and databases that can be downloaded automatically just don’t work with Street addresses natively. This dooms the app to obscurity. Regular users expect basic feature parity with the maps apps that comes on their phone for searching and navigation. This is not an open street maps issue, it’s a decision to not support certain orders of addresses. Lots of potential here. Be better.

Not good for navigation

I had high hopes for this app and it’s great for some things, but the navigation features need a lot of work.I wanted to plan a route but when I try to add points it keeps snapping back to my current location.I tried turning on the “simulate route” feature hoping it would allow me to plan without snapping, but instead it snaps and simulates that I’m driving the route. Imagine that... I guess I’m just stupid to think it was something else. All good though, I just turn off simulate and start over, right? Wrong. It continues to simulate even after I kill the navigation and start all over and turned off that feature. For map downloads and gpx overlay it works, but for now it’s too buggy and cumbersome for anything else.If it becomes more intuitive and less buggy then I’ll happily revisit and expand my usage.

Great for turn-by-turn nav on custom routes

If you’ve been looking for an app that supports turn-by-turn (including voice) navigation for custom routes, OsmAnd delivers! I had tried many apps, including all the big names in maps and navigation, but none could do what OsmAnd does. I was looking for an app to find off-road routes between destinations and it does this with the flip of a single button. No more choosing “fake” interim destinations to force a specific route. If you want to avoid specific roads that the other switches don’t handle, you can just tap any road (or multiple roads) and your route will not use them. Great app!

Please read this

I am all about privacy and security. I deleted my email, social media, and other accounts that just freely gave my info to any one that would pay. I removed any app that ties data to my persona, and I also created accounts and installed apps that respected user privacy.I have pretty much found replacements for everything, except for maps, banking, and gaming. When I came across this app and saw it has a 4.5 star review, I literally gasped and got so giddy. Then I opened the app and tried to use it. It went down hill, and fast. After about 5-7 clicks the app completely freezes and I have to close and reopen the app.Adding a favorite is a joke. Such a difficult process. Click one wrong place and you have to tap back into the favorites, but guess what, that’s like 5 taps - time to close and reopen the app now. Navigation isn’t too bad. It’s either 3 seconds ahead or 3 seconds behind. For example, a turn was coming up and I knew I needed to take it, the gps said I already took it, then stopped at the stop sign. Then continued on my way. A few seconds later, I just then turned. The speed detection is pretty funny. It feels good to be as fast as a jet plane, but I don’t think it’s accurate. Even though the app says I’m traveling at 257 miles an hour, my car says I am going 35. The apps layout and placement of icons, while I could get used to it, needs a lot of work. If you have a settings icon - every setting needs to be there.

Really in need of better search functionality

Most places and addresses are not in the database. Searching among the few that do exist is slow and tedious. If I could just type in the address or business I want to go to, and have it quickly pop up, this app would be much more usable for me. Google maps and Apple Maps are miles ahead in this regard. 3 stars because of the data privacy.

Great maps, needs more location photos.

This map took is really good! It uses Open Street Makes, so it provides all the map features you need without the stalker-like constant tracking you’re going to get from competitors. The only complaint that I have about it is that I wish there was a way to submit photos without needing to sign up for the third party “mapillary” service that requires a user account and therefore doesn’t respect user privacy.I took some photos to add and improve the system but mapillary means that I won’t be able to easily upload them to the service.Great map, though, but this limitation means that there are a photos of locations than there could be.

Many features but hard to use

This is a nice OSM viewer with a lot of customization. You can tweak just about anything in the app including map styles and layout of the navigation screen. The downside is the app is very confusing because of all these features. And it seems to be missing some basic ones. For example you can only quickly show the POIs in some category, eg “fast food” or “restaurants.” If you want to search them by name, for example if you want to search the nearest McDonald’s, it sometimes takes a minute to show the results even though I only have one map loaded. Another problem in general is the app is not very reliable. Today I was setting up my new iPad Pro and couldn’t download maps. It seems like the download needs to start over if it fails in the middle. And I’m not sure why it’s failing - my connection is gigabit and quite reliable for everything else. I also believe the app is not quitting in the background. I paid for the subscription to get hourly map update. This is pretty nice too. It auto updates any offline maps you have and it seems very data efficient.

Missing one thing.

Great navigation, but i just wish it could announce directions out loud while I was driving. I don't know if adding a CarPlay app is possible, but that would be pretty cool. Just need it to announce, and it would be perfect!EDIT due to developer response: turns out it was just messed up and it can announce! absolutely lovely app guys, keep up the good work!
