Great software, awful map source

I have contacted support team a few times with different issues and they always responded quickly and helped me to resolve my issues. I like the way they designed the software with privacy in mind, the way it calculates routes etc. The negative for me, and the reason it’s not my primary navigation app, the source for maps, traffic and red light cameras. In the past I bought Magic Earth Pro with TomTom maps and traffic. When they switched to the free maps at first they were ok. But after some update the map got corrupted in my area and basically there were some spots without any roads or streets. After some map updates it was corrected but now occasionally an app will recommend a turn on a road that is not even connected to the road I’m traveling or to make a turn on overpass or a bridge etc. bottom line the map source is not reliable as it was. So as I mentioned this is great software, professionally executed with the quality support team with the maps you can’t really trust.

Near Perfect Navigation App

This app has attractive maps and accurate directions, day/night modes, and easy-to-read interface. I like that it tells you you’ve arrived, for those times you can’t see the address outside. You can also change voices to female or male, different English if you want to try British or Australian, and of course other languages. You can switch between 2D and 3D views. Only additional feature I might like to see is a feature for slightly larger font within the map so it’s easier to see the mapped streets and address numbers. The top direction header is of course clear and easy to read.

Great navigation with better routes than anyone else

Magic Earth selects the best routes during navigation over any app I have tried so far. The routing engine seems to have a strong preference for staying on highways instead of local roads. I really appreciate this because as I travel to unknown cities, I never know which communities are safe to drive through. Other navigation apps try to save a minute by using local roads - but those routes make me nervous. Every city is a little different, one way streets, parked cars, events closing roads, etc….Way to go Magic Earth for being the only navigation tool that prioritize highways. You are my exclusive navigation tool now.

Navigation on North Carolina Mountains

On a recent trip to the North Carolina mountains using Google Maps the service stopped and I didn’t know where I was. I tried Apple Maps with same results. After going to Magic Earth, I regained my position and proceeded on with my trip. I drove the rest of my trip which consisted of four days using Magic Earth with no problems. Love the app. Just wish that the map updates were more frequent. Thanks for making such a reliable mapping system.

Best nav app so far!

I hate using google and Apple Maps lack so much. I really love having this as a back dash cam as well. I would recommend this app to anybody that does not have a dash cam. On a side note, sometimes when I remove it from the window, it only saves the last 4 or 5 minutes of the dash cam video. Is there a fix for this, or am I doing something wrong.

A decent Navi app with a little thing off

I have tried different offline map navigation app, and this is by far the best I have found in my opinion. I don’t need to pay some sort of “premium” for some unworthy features like traffic or lane assistance (like Sygic). Or there might be some commercial popping up when I need to navigate. It really is free and easy to use.The only problem I have encountered so far is that it sometimes guides me to frontage road and back to freeway when there is no heavy traffic or accidents along the freeway. That’s really bizarre. This could be misleading in some ways. The developer team need to find out why it happened and fix it. Because it would cause unnecessary wasting time.

Teetering on the brink of greatness.

As someone who likes to drive for fun, Magic Earth is phenomenal. The combination of topo data with satellite imagery looks stunning on my carplay display, and makes finding winding hillclimbs and valley switchbacks a joy. It is so close to being all-conquering I don't want the following criticism to dissuade anyone from trying it. Download it. It's stunning. That said...There are some minor things that drive me nuts: - I can't access the settings menu while plugged into carplay. Yeah safety etc but even while stationary I can't seem to, for example, change map type without un-carplaying and going to the menu. - The route numbers on roads are TINY! The road names are a squiggly font. Not readable. - I wish it could store more data on my device for using satellite and topo map. I have a top end iPhone, I'd happily assign 50gb to this app but alas, it is capped at like... 3gb? It's not 2012 anymore. - A real-time compass would be welcome. Not just showing "N" when you are going north, but a proper compass. Compasses are good.

My new favorite nav app

UPDATE: still love the app but please add the ability to lock the screen "north always up" if desired, and allow us to set our own default zoom level - the preset default zoom is usually zoomed in too close. *********After frustration with "that other" offline nav app that's dying off due to its bait & switch subscription scheme and lousy graphics, I'm super happy with Magic Earth! It's got everything I want in easy to use design and works great on CarPlay, and values customer privacy. Keep up the great work, don't over complicate it with superfluous junk, this is a gem! Forget the others, this is the best! Thanks M.E.!

recommendation

I have been using GPS devices for 3 decades. I live in a country where it is still not possible to buy anything from the App Store. That is why it is very important that this App is really free, and there are no hidden costs. This off line GPS App is to be recommended. Guided precisely, I especially like rotating the map in a circular motion, which many autonomous (and expensive) devices do not. Clear, Intuitive, Simple. Clear functions. Huge selection of maps. Easy insertions points between the start and end point of the trip. Good choice of voices. Excellent organization of POI folders. It connects perfectly with the phonebook, with addresses from existing maps, house numbers are accurate. For those who use the HUD function - it works great. There is also the possibility of a dash cam. My rating is 10, if there was a possibility to save the programmed route, the rating would be 10+. This App is in the spirit of today, uses all the features of a smartphone. It can serve as an example to many device and software manufacturers. Kudos to the whole team who worked on this project.

Except navigation part..

Where do I begin talking about this app? 🤔Everything is perfect with this app except the navigation which it was aimed to help people. I hope. 🤗The UI is top notch. It’s free even though I want to pay them for the service. They don’t collect any data which is great thing and hard to believe in this day and age of app market. There is so much to like about it. But the problem is, I could never get this app to stay on straight highways in North America where I live. The app always want to take me on local roads as someone reported earlier as frontage roads in some areas of Arizona. Trust me I selected highway preferred option in settings. May be it’s my doing. If so please point me right direction. Nevertheless, Magic Earth IS A FIVE STAR APP, may be more stars if Apple let me give. Thank you developers. 🙏
