Hoping for more

CORE FEATURES needed for a note taking app, some this has, MOST it doesnt. Will be back to check up on it later. Stylus with touch sensitive drawing, eg apple pencilHandwriting recognition, because it is very helpful to search notes, tie this in with the search function described later with precise phrase location, much needed, very beneficial search function with precise phrase. [MISSING]for example I need to be able to search an exact phrase like “sudden infant death syndrome”There is a workaround for this for most applications that may miss this function. so if an application is missing this function but if it does have a backup option then I will backup the note to PDF, open the pdf version and search that document or if I need to have a broader search then I will search the whole folder of my textbooks to find that terminology. I believe Spotlight may also offer an exact phrase search but I'm not sureOCR search of text within uploaded images. this is critical for searching text within images pasted from other textbooks that I've you know Consolidated high-yield materials if maybe there's only one good section of a unique textbook that I'm using and I need to bring that over to my central textbook such as first aid for USMLETyping Ability to type notes because it's nice to switch between handwriting and using the pencil to spare a certain muscles when writing over long periods of timeTablesEvery student loves tables, especially medical students whose clinic and exam baffles you with mimics you need to differentiate with 1 or 2 key features, nothing does htis like a table and it is so much easier with software than drawing out by handBulletsWith multiple level siOS and OSX applications and maybe even a web app with rapid synchronization between iOS and OSX If it is not rapid sync, it doesnt count, esp if syn results in errors and having to pick one version to override, losing crucial notes in process. This is critical because I need to switch between applications sometimes so it's not just enough to be able to type notes on just an iPad version until it's also very helpful to have the MacBook version open so I can look at it and review notes compared to web applications I'm working on such as multiple choice questions on your world or NBME. Folder management. this is a no-brainer because as a med student or any student with a diverse array of subjects you need organization. notability is sorely lacking in this area, their organization is horrendous and has not improved in decades. The app has become a gimmick for high school students. Chapter outlines. some way of quickly labeling the sections of the text or the note, and even better if it's capable of having those defined by the textbook or that I can say these are appropriate for this textbook chapters so I can quickly go to that chapter. and then an isolated separate chapter of my own unique outline items for specific pages that I want to have labeled so that I can quickly pull up the index and go to that page quicklygood notes is fantastic for this and that you can filter by the native textbook PDF chapters however they not do not allow you to edit these work create more chapters that are native so he has to be something that's done with like it PDF editor or something separately before uploading the document to notes app

Revised Review

After the developer’s response I am revising my former review. I have used many other note taking apps and after several years of use I find NoteShelf 2 to be an absolute gem, the best I’ve ever used. Also the developer has always been great to deal with. NoteShelf 3 has lots of new goodies, but it lost a couple of goodies essential to me at least. But now they are working to get those in 3. When that happens that happens, three will be an incredible app for me. So in the meantime I will hang on to 3 and explore it, and continue to use NoteShelf 2. You can’t go wrong with NoteShelf.

Frustrated

Based on the advertisement for Noteshelf 3, I was expecting a lot more. I've been using Noteshelf forever and I love it! I have tons of notes, both handwritten and typed, as well as a lot of PDF material for studying on my Noteshelf home. I use the app every single day and think it's the best! When I found out that Noteshelf was releasing a new version, I was so excited that I started checking the Apple Store four times a day just to make sure I wouldn't miss the app release. However, my expectations were not met. Aside from a questionable AI feature, there's nothing really new in the app. It's essentially the same tools redesigned or repositioned. This is not enough for "A quantum leap in letting you take beautiful notes effortlessly." Everything that was already good in Noteshelf 2 is present in this new version. For someone who doesn't have any previous version, it would be fantastic to give it a try. For everybody else, I don't recommend it. I have three notes to finish this review. First, Noteshelf 3 was basically made with a female or teenage audience in mind, judging by the colors, lettering of the templates, and so on. Everyone--males and females--could use this app, no doubt about it. However, I would feel a little uncomfortable using the app in a professional meeting, for example. It doesn't look like it was made for professional use by men. Second, the best function that was present on Noteshelf 2, the ability to copy text inside a PDF document, was removed in version 3. Was it removed on purpose for some other reason, or is it a feature that I missed some configuration for? Finally, the worst note: I haven't seen any specific instructions for importing my notes from previous versions. This option should be presented as soon as I open version 3, even if it will only be possible after I pay the upgrade fee. Without this option, I'll have to figure out how to move dozens of notes between old and new versions. That's all, folks. I hope this review helps people understand what Noteshelf 3 is about. My expectation is to help Fluid Touch make the app better for everyone else. For now, I'm happy with Noteshelf 2 and waiting for really new features. Noteshelf 3 should be called an update, not advertised as a "brand new" app.

More templates

While there are plenty of templates to choose from, please give us some more fun templates including all the templates from Noteshelf 2. I also wish there were pen favorites like before. Lastly, I wish the floating color tool bar could disappear while still keeping the interface or simply become part of the main tool bar. I’m always moving it around. Great app, smooth writing experience, fun to use.

Almost there!

I’m really enjoying this app for digital planning but please give us the ability to select a default text font/size and fill in shapes! It’s frustrating to have to change that.

Some nice features

Very easy to add tags; simple toolbar; clean, organized interfaceAbility to choose color other than white, yellow, or black for document bckgrd is unique & a neat choiceMinimal file organization, similar to NeboMade my final four (Noteful, Nebo, Goodnotes), but I can’t test Noteshelf’s handwriting search capability w/out taking an $8+ gamble, so I’ll have to choose between Nebo or GN. (Noteful has my fav interface, but no handwriting search at all.)

Promising alternative to Notability & Goodnotes

I don’t like some of the recent changes to Notability and Goodnotes (which I was already using less). So I’ve been looking at alternatives and this came up! I never used the previous version but so far really enjoying this app. There are a few KEY things missing I need to make the switch from Noteability though, which I only realized when I was tryna switch. (1) The audio doesn’t sync to show when notes were taken with it, and that’s a important when you have an hour long lecture…I usually use a symbol or something to track when I know I’ll need to revisit a period of the audio, cuz then I can just toggle thru it until the icon I draw appears and listen from there. (2) There are no dotted or dashed line styles, no easy shape color fills, which are important cuz I do a lot of diagraming that requires these. (3) No quick duplicate, being able to select and duplicate instead of select, copy, and then paste is such a time saver. (4) No ability to zoom out of the page without it defaulting to “fit to width” can be annoying if I need to select to the edges of a page or view a little more than one page at a time. (5) No ability to drag selection across pages - so if I need to move something between pages I have to copy and paste. PITA when trying to reorganize notes. Lastly, two features Noteability removed that I’d love to see here: (1) Custom pen style favorites. I tend to use a set of 3-4 pen styles with different colors and sizes to keep my notes cohesive. Switching all those setting every time is annoying and I liked old Noteability where I could set those as easy access options. (2) Quick “zoom to write” feature. I don’t know why every app seems to have made this so much effort to access now. I often switch between using the quick zoom and normal page zooming to write because of the mix of diagram and written notes. All in all, impressive and promising app, but I need to see some changes before I can fully make the switch.
