App is not functional

I had SunPower install a 19 panel system with Battery in Oct of 2020. The entire process and customer service was terrible throughout but I’m only here today to review the app. I’m currently on an iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 14.4. I’ve downloaded the MySunPower app (deleted and reinstalled several times just to be sure it wasn’t on my end) and every time I open the app all I can see is a blank white screen. It is completely useless. I found out my wife on an iPhone X with older software was able to use the app but not until several weeks had gone by and she asked to try on hers. This is obviously incredibly frustrating to have purchased a system at almost $50,000 and not be able to see how the panels or battery are performing. Also during the upgrade today they told me the last maintenance worker had left my batter in the off position so I hadn’t been storing power for the last 3 months. FIX THE APP ASAP! Wish I could rate 0/5 stars.

Disappointing. Lacks features vs web portal

I’ve been monitoring my SunPower system using the web portal for about 18 months. The mySunPower app is not integrated with the portal backend, so it’s necessary to sign up from scratch with email, password and verification, THEN actually sign in (repeating the process.) Then, despite my pre-existing portal account, I had go out to the box to retrieve serial number information. And in the end, I’ve found that the custom start/end date mode for the energy production chart only displays the 2020 and 2021 annual buckets rather than monthly buckets, so comparison of energy production year-over-year by month is not possible. This is the only chart I’ve ever cared to use, so I won’t be using the app any more unless/until this is brought into alignment with the portal.

Keeps crashing

I like this better than the old web based one but it just started crashing out on my iPhone X and M1 Mac. Also on this app and the old one data is constantly outdated. On this app the time for the data is only sometimes visible. When looking back at older dates the data is often blank. An option to determine how long to keep data on my device would be great. I have plenty of space and would like to keep several years of data on my phone for quick comparison with current production.

Better than the old version, so much room for improvement

First, it’s annoying that the app goes offline after a few seconds of running in the background. The latest release broke the Net Grid Usage query. I know that the data is being collected because it used to show up. Otherwise, I’d think there’s a hardware issue. Now that the DB is going to be improved, it’d be great that my old data could be fixed. After having the wrong current transformers installed, my lifetime reports will never be accurate as it shows my house was consuming tenths of megawatts per month.

Panel monitoring - BEWARE

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but I reached out to Sunpower to get individual panel monitoring enabled and they redirected me to my installer (Empower) and my installer said it would cost $225 + tax to enable the feature. What a joke! This is a basic feature that is available by default from competitor products but this somehow ends up being a premium feature by sunpower. sunpower already charges a premium for their systems so it’s shocking how they will charge additional to enable a basic feature. My installer said the way Sunpower rolled out this feature, it would require the installer to spend many hours to get it set up for their customers (hence the charge). BEWARE!

Very frustrating experience

The app gets more than one star because it does in fact provide some functionality. Sluggish, aggregated functionality but indeed a bit more information than just going to PG&E and downloading hourly meter data. It’s not what I need, which is per panel data. I need to know if there is localized shading or whether a panel is covered in ash- things that I can do something about. And besides, it’s my system now, not Sunpower’s and I have a right to the information which all those inverters are putting out. Sunpower can provide this data, which is what most everybody actually wants, but they just won’t, probably because they feel like the less customers know, the less they will have grounds to complain. It’s a major negative and I didn’t pay the premium for a Sunpower system to be patronized.

Very Buggy, Fixed, But Now Not Working Again

INITIAL REVIEW: I was pretty excited about being able to track my usage, but I was quite disappointed. I have no confidence in the accuracy of its reporting. Yesterday, for example, it showed us producing 0.1 kW. (A cloudy, rainy day, so this is no surprise.). It showed home usage of 1.4kW. So, naturally, you would expect the readings to show 1.3kW being pulled from the grid. Instead, the app happily showed us feeding 1.5 kW *into* the grid. So, the app was 2.8kW off on reporting 0.1kW production. (This was so startlingly inaccurate that I even took a photo of it, just to make sure I was remembering this correctly.) Unfortunately, it was not the only time yesterday that the readings were off. UPDATE: I contacted Sunpower, and the app is reporting readings that make much more sense. There is still a problem of the occasional crash, but this is working MUCH better, and I am adding two more stars. Thanks, guys! NEW UPDATE, October 2021 Well… the numbers are consistent now. No strange math. However, the production and consumption numbers are still way, way, off. I downloaded Smartmeter to see what my meter readings were, and compared them with what MySunPower was telling me, and they have never matched, ever. According to Smartmeter(the local utility’s meter-reading app), for the last few months I have a 310 KwH surplus. According to MySunPower, I have a 2,500 KwH surplus. This is not a trivial difference!

Less info than in older sunpower app

Have been using the older app for 3 years now, but it’s now being retired and replaced by this one. Unfortunately, this provides less info than the old one, as I cannot see a table of data here at all only graphical.Other suggestions for enhancement:1. Would be very helpful if the app provided something like a year-over-year comparison of, for example, month to date or year to date performance.2. There’s also no panel level data presented, so with 32 panels installed, I have no idea how any of them are performing in comparison to each other, or to how they performed a year ago. This would be good to know if as a homeowner I notice a drop in the overall system performance. It might also have avoided an issue I experienced after my initial system install where several panels produced absolutely NO power for months, and neither Sunpower nor my Sunpower installer proactively noticed it! It was only after I submitted a ticket inquiring on the consistently lower than expected system output that someone finally took an action to address it.

Connection problem

The App is very cool when it’s working. However, it always says connected even when it’s not. Half the time it is not connected to my SunVault system. It usually get disconnected after midnight and stays disconnected for a few days. Sunpower is blaming my wifi connection but all my internet appliance have no issues with connection. I work from home and use Xfinity. My wifi speeds are always over 100 to 150 mbps. In the garage, it is around 60 to 80 mbps. So while the UI is very cool, it is unreliable and useless half the time. Unfortunately, you have no choice if you’re using Sunpower’s SunVault systems.

Hardware is great, software is terrible.

I went with Sunpower hardware because it’s the best around. I did do my research and consulted with the app as well and did see that customers complained of how terrible and unreliable the app is, it’s definitely true. While my system has only been on for a couple of days, it’s hard to get it fixed and properly calibrated with customer service and they say “this” team handles this, call back in ‘x’ business days for them to say, “it’s working on our end.” Luckily, the city’s meter is properly working and can show me the difference in the delivered energy vs. renewable energy and not the outrageous consumption and production rates the monitoring system is giving me. A simple solution of logging out and logging back in, deleting the app hasn’t worked for me.
