Inaccessible outside of the US

I don’t want to leave a bad review but I would like an issue to be addressed. I have a funded Marcus account and frequently travel internationally. When abroad I cannot open the app at all and can only log in to the website from my laptop using a vpn. I keep getting a message like, ‘thank you for your interest in Marcus but only Americans are allowed access to this service for now.’ I find this frustrating and nonsensical since many Americans travel abroad and may still want to check on their accounts. Even with a vpn on my phone I cannot open the app while abroad (primarily in the Middle East). I would like to be able to rely on using my phone since I don’t always have my laptop. It seems possible to limit the applicants to Americans while still making the website/app operational from foreign ip addresses. Otherwise the app is great, and I’m sorry for leaving a one star review, but wasn’t sure how to let the company know of this issue.

App is awful & service is no good

I’ve been a Marcus client for a while, but my experience during this pandemic has been terrible. I’m unhappy because their app is not functioning properly on my phone, not to mention their rates are not so great anymore. When I log into the app I can only see the balance on my account. I cannot see the transaction history. I’ve contacted Marcus multiple times about this issue. The first rep I spoke with told me it was my phone that was the problem. THAT’S NOT A GOOD ENOUGH ANSWER BRO LOL. All my other banking apps work just fine except for this one. I don’t think my phone is the problem. The second rep I spoke to said that he escalated my case to their tech department and that they would reach out to me. I’m still awaiting a response weeks later... not great service.

couldn’t recommend enough

absolutely love everything about this company and app. the second the Marcus checking account gets released, i’m going all in and having everything with Marcus. The only constructive feedback i would love to be shared with someone at Marcus, is to allow more access to the investing side of Marcus. it would be nice to be able to see an individual ETF’s performance over the last few months, but the only option in Marcus is the prospectus for that ticker. Ally for example let’s you see news about that specific ETF, past performance, and the top stocks included in that ETF so you really know what you’re investing in. Would love to see something like that from Marcus in the future. And lastly, would be cool to add benchmarks when looking at performance, like US Market, or Int’l Markets. Just an idea. keep up the amazing work

Bring back the line graph!

I used whatever the version of this app was before it got sold to you and loved it! I switched over when it became this and was very disappointed because some of the things that had been most helpful for me understanding my spending habits had been taken out. The biggest of which was the line graph that showed how your spending was progressing over the current month and it a had a shadow that showed your average spending over a month to compare. Please bring this back! I have not been using your app for almost a year because of this problem, but I want to come back because your categories of spending make way more sense than on Mint. (Namely you have groceries and dining/drinks as different categories and Mint combines them, which makes no sense). Please bring back the line graph

They are the best

I got a pre approved loan offer and when I tried to complete the application my credit score was hard pulled which affected my credit and I was requested to upload my ID card which I tried to upload on their website/app but I keep getting an error message that they have a technical issue. I called and all their representatives couldn’t find a solution to how I can upload my ID to process my application. They said it’s a general problem and they don’t know how to fix it. So Marcus literally messed up my credit without allowing me complete the application. I regret ever accepting their offer cos the hard pull will remain on my credit report for 2 years for no reason. They don’t have email to reach them. They only have representatives who have no knowledge of the company. Update: My issue was satisfactorily resolved . Thanks

Hard to Navigate

I am one of the GM CREDIT CARD holders who have recently been switched from Capital One to Marcus by Goldman Sachs. The Marcus app is hard to navigate and find the information you are looking for. There is no place that I can find a concise list of current balance, payment due date, minimum payment due, available credit, next account closing date, or rewards balance. After you are done using the app it is even hard to find where to log off. I realize that Goldman Sachs is an investment company, but if they want to be in the credit card business, they need to check out other credit card apps like Capital One, Wells Fargo, Chase and Citi Bank to design an app which offers the same easy to navigate features as their competitors. Goldman Sachs should have done their homework before taking on millions of Capital One customers. They were and are totally unprepared for this venture.

Marcus is Great..:App needs work

Insight is great but the app has some bugs that need to be fixed but once they are I think it will be great and my rating will change to 5.1. Trying to link external accounts on the app I select the institution and then it brings me to screen to select my bank instead of bringing me to the screen to enter my credentials for the account I want to link. Because of this it keeps linking my bank account multiple times.2. The view and breakdown on the app and the actual website are different. Certain accounts show up in one spot on the website and a different spot on the app. My net worth is also different online than it is on the app. This should all match in both places. 3. I started to try to link account through the website since that’s they only want I can get it to link properly but on certain institutions I keep getting an error 4. It is not easy to report bugs or get support all I want to do is sent a bug report in I don’t need to spend time talking to customer service and I could not figure out to chat through the app…I’m thinking it’s not supported or I just couldn’t find it. I found it on the website but not the app. But again I don’t want to chat with customer service I just want to report a bug.Marcus Insight seems like it will be a very useful tool once I can get all the account set up properly.

Good App. Touch ID / Face ID Issue (FIXED 5/1/20)

It’s a good app. Only one issue about Touch ID/Face ID. I just spoke to Marcus customer service, after you log in, do not log out. If you do log out, next time you open the app, you have to log in manually again (enter your email & password, very annoying). Just close the app and after 3 - 5 minutes later, it will log you out. Next time you open the app, you will see a Touch ID/ Face ID prompt. Not sure why Marcus set it up this way. Other banking apps, you log out. Hopefully Marcus will fix this. I feel more secure if I can log out after using the app. Also, not sure why Marcus is making us create a 4 digit pin/passcode. We don’t need it for online, however we need it for the app login? Just make it simple like other banking apps, allow us to log out/sign out, allow us to log in using Touch ID/Face after logging out, and please get rid of the passcode.UPDATE 5/1/20: Logging out/Touch ID/Face ID issues are fixed. Now it’s perfect. Thank you developers!

Please bring the monthly line graph back!

I switched over to Marcus because I used Clarity and loved it. It’s basically the same app with some extra features but Marcus has some differences graphics wise that make it not as useful as clarity. The monthly spending graphic used to have a line graph where you saw the trajectory of your spending for the month based off your current spending rate. Please bring the line graph back!! The pie chart is the same as every other money tracking app I’ve used, in fact this one is worse because it’s not even different colors to see a quick representation of what you spend each month, it’s just different shades of each color which is a cool gradient but not practical. If they fix both of these, I’ll be happy to use it. If not, I’ll try and find something else or just make my own line graph.

Needs more security controls

Marcus seems extremely new to dealing with credit cards and their app and web accounts do not have necessary security features. I have push notifications enabled, but I can only receive emails when a charge is made. Additionally, it appears that they will only send you a notification if the charge is above $0.01, meaning that if someone makes a $0.00 charge to link your card number to their paypal, you will not get a notification and therefore cannot lock your card before they start using it. (Also, they bring up a number pad for you to enter an amount, but the decimal is missing, so you can only enter whole numbers above $0.) Additionally, the “lock your card” feature is not prominent on the app’s interface. Indeed, I cannot find it at all. In short, they appear to have not considered credit card security and I will definitely curtail the use of my card because there are no features that allow me to track my card’s use and immediate lock it if it is stolen.
