Everything I’ve been dreaming of

I’ve used so many money management apps over the years like Mint, Albert, YNAB, and none of them have aligned with the way I think about my finances the way Copilot has. It’s incredibly intuitive, beautifully laid out, and works really reliably. I can see how my spending trends work but I also have so much control over modifying my categories, excluding charges that I don’t want, and it’s insane to me that they even let you recognize “work expenses” or “reimbursements from friends” because those always mess up my data on other apps! I’m rarely so immediately excited about an app (it’s only happened once before) but you can tell they’ve put so much thought and hard work into this. I knew I was going to be paying for this on day 1, and it’s crazy to me that the subscription is even cheaper than YNAB because YNAB has a really rough and difficult to learn interface. Highly highly recommend, can’t recommend it enough. Best part is you can do a trial to make sure you actually like it and will use it regularly! So there’s really no reason not to at least try it

Honest Review

The reason I got copilot was because I would just constantly see money disappear so I wanted something that could track everything. I also have a few investment accounts, a credit card, and a lot of reoccurring payments.Pros: Copilot does an AMAZING job at watching over everything! It shows you what comes in and what goes out. It gives summaries and averages for the months and years which I find very helpful. You can track your bank accounts, most investment accounts, credit cards, reoccurring payments, income, and more. It has definitely helped me keep track of things and saved me money! I believe that it is necessary to get the subscription as it’s much better for tracking everything. I bought the yearly one which is $70 I believe which isn’t bad at all if you think about how much you save by being able to track everything. Cons: I have had some trouble setting up my credit card on here though, as the bank i am with is not very big. Not sure why it was able to add my savings and checking but not my credit card. I also think it would be nice to be able to customize rules and some other things within the app as it would make things much smoother and organized. You are kind of limited to what rules you can create and the rules are pretty broad causing some transactions to mix up. Nothing major just a few minor things I found!

Fabulous but missing key feature for money mgmt

5 - 1 — need a split rating on this one for 5 stars and 1 star. I’ve been using YNAB for a few years and it has changed my ability to effectively manage my money. For various reasons I was looking for a different tool and did side by side comparisons between a few apps via 30-day free trials. Copilot was hands down my favorite. It’s awesome but I stayed with YNAB because of one thing. Copilot is missing a way to enter transactions manually before they clear your bank account. For me, this was a dealbreaker because I would be a nervous wreck about overdrawing my checking because I can’t see what my balance is projected to be when I issue payments. I checked with the support team and they confirmed that this is true, the only way a transaction will show up in my checking account is when it clears the bank. With YNAB, I’m able to manually enter transactions when I issue payments or write a check, but not with Copilot. So for me to use Copilot, I would have to use a manual check register on the side. So I stuck with YNAB as I didn’t find any other app to beat it even tho Copilot is better except for this one fundamental piece of functionality that’s missing. I hope manual transaction entry is on your backlog - if it’s ever implemented, I’ll switch as soon as I find out. As suggested in another review, I’d also love to see a release newsletter to email to track updates. As soon as manual entry is there, I’m in!

Almost 5+ stars!

I really want to give this 5+ stars. It does so many things very well - and serves all of our fairly moderately complex budgeting needs. So many great tools - and we’ve chosen to use it above all the other budgeting apps we’ve tried. I would recommend it to most people. The only thing lacking, to me, is better thought for user experience and visualizations. Don’t get me wrong - the app is beautiful, and a pleasure to to use in many cases. A lot of pleasant surprises in investments and net worth tracking features. It also has some visualizations that are very helpful - even an innovative one that helps track your spending rate over the month. But there are certain things that strike me as lacking some user research. For example, it takes 5ish clicks just to get to the sign in page to link a new account - for each account (unless yours is one of the 4ish they prompt at each screen). The charting is innovative and helpful. However, beyond those elements it is very difficult to compare month over month trends for this innovative charting for multiple categories. It serves the basic needs and then some. But I found myself wanting more and loaded the data into Tableau for advanced analysis (after using a great “export” ability from the app). Maybe I’m just a data and viz geek :). But this is a great app. In my opinion, one of the best if not the best depending on what you’re looking for. Thanks for a great app!

Best Budgeting App Out There

This is by far the best budgeting app I’ve ever used. I bounced between Rocket Money (which barely worked with many of my accounts), and then switched to Mint. Which was okay, but at least it was free. I hesitated switching AGAIN, but I do NOT regret it. The layout and functions are so intuitive, the logic when it comes to categorization is superior to any other app, and I’ve never before felt like I’ve had this much of a solid view of my finances. 100% worth the monthly/annual $. The only thing I hope they eventually role out is the ability to seamlessly integrate finances with a partner (especially considering most couples nowadays are dual income and there is not a “clear” breadwinner. Being able to clearly depict a joint picture would be amazing). But I understand this is more difficult than it sounds. Regardless, this app is amazing. I’m excited to be able to see the retrospective metric at the end of the year so I can properly forecast my FSA spending and realign where needed. It ALSO helps you keep track of reimbursements from other people. You can exclude the charge (or part of the charge) and then ensure that excluded reimbursement category zeros out every month. Like I said, amazing! Download ASAP!!!

Plaid integration is meh and iPad is missing

I wanted to like the app from the start, but as I got in to my trial I started to see some of the cracks. The first major one was lack of iPad support. They have a native Mac app but their iOS app plays in iPhone mode and doesn’t scale to an iPad? Auto layout is pretty straightforward and would solve this in less than a week of development and they release the app regularly so the dev cycles are there. Secondly, the Plaid integration mixed with Copilot support. During my 7 day trial I logged two support calls and it took. 4 days for me to get a less than sub par answer back. They essentially replied that I had the wrong credentials. I know that I had the correct credentials as the URL from plaid matched the URL that I was successfully logged in to. While I realize this is primarily Plaid, the customer service aspect could greatly be improved from the Copilot side. They’ve got Intercom, which makes them want to appear big and grow, but they’ve either grown too fast or it’s a facade as response times like that, especially during a trial are no bueno. Like I said, I really wanted to like it and I was going strong but the wheels fell off. Great interface, but pull back the curtain and it broke…

Terrible Experience; Just Like the Rest

I have been using Mint for years and it’s age is really starting to show. I’ve read nothing but glowing reviews on this app and thought I’d give it a try. I’m at the point where I’m willing to pay for an app to help me financially. But of course, my experience was nothing like what I’d read. For starters I had a lot of trouble adding my accounts. I knew I had the right login as I would test each one before signing in on the app. The app would tell me the credentials were wrong or just give me an internal error. After multiple attempts I could usually get it to log in. I was also very disappointed to find that I couldn’t add my bills like Cox, Verizon, Electric, Gas, etc... Then during setup the app was trying to load all my transactions and for some reason couldn’t load them from one bank. I waited and waited but nothing changed. I decided to close the app and reopen it, still nothing. So basically I have to remove the account or be soft locked in the setup. That’s not very helpful.Really all I want is an app where I can give it all my financial obligations and have it tell me how much I need to set aside each check and what’s due before next payday. Then it can worry about fancy budgeting and charts of my spending. My due dates are far more important.

Great budgeting App

I was very reticent to try this app because I’ve been using mint forever and all my data is there and it’s free. It seemed counterintuitive to spend money on a budgeting app. But I found myself with covid at the end of the year and spending a lot of downtime laying on the couch so I figured I’d spend the time trying it out. I love this app! It’s so easy to use and very intuitive. I appreciate that it’s very well thought out. I had a couple of issues setting it up and the customer service team responded right away. One issue was easily resolved and the other has to do with linking one of my accounts and I’m very impressed with the level of ongoing communication while they continue to fix it. It’s very easy to ask questions and they respond with a genuine answer quickly. There is even a designated area to submit suggestions which they also respond to. The only thing it’s missing is the ability to filter a category by a specific time frame and then print it (i.e. rental expenses for the year). But after I asked about it they said others have also asked for that functionality and they are working on it.So far I’ve been extremely impressed. So much better than mint and definitely worth the money.

Best thing i ever bought

This is easily the best budgeting app i’ve ever used. I’ve used Mint and Personal Capital, and I tried to use Fidelity Full View but that is basically useless. Copilot is incredibly well designed, the engineering put in to it is resilient and the customer support from the team is ridiculously helpful and engaging. I am going to save so much money this year without even trying and it’s because of Copilot. The only caveat i will give, and this shouldn’t be taken as a negative against Copilot, is that some accounts don’t work. Fidelity is almost impossible to get your information from, and it’s because Fidelity is bad at stuff. They pretend they’re innovative but they do not know what they are doing. I am keeping Copilot and dumping Fidelity because of the lack of integration, because this app is just too good at what it does. PLEASE download this app and subscribe because the team here have made an app that will change your life and I hope they make a ton of money so they stick around and keeping doing awesome stuff. I’m going to spend eighty bucks this year on it but I will save THOUSANDS using it so… literally very worth it.

Perfect Budgeting App For Millennials!!

I’ve used Mint to help me budget for years now but it only took a few days of using this app to buy in completely! My friend spoke so highly of it and I can now understand why! Copilot’s baseline functions work pretty similarly to Mint’s website but Mint’s app wasn’t the best; I constantly had problems with it (slow to update, glitches, etc). This app, however, was designed for your phone so it works exceptionally well. I love how customizable it is. The emojis, color coding, and customizable categories are some of my favorite features. They are releasing a desktop version pretty soon that I am interested in testing out. My one complaint is that there isn’t a way to account for internal transfers in your monthly budget. Internal transfers are marked with their own symbol under the “transactions” tab but there isn’t a way to add a line item in my monthly budget for them. I would love to be able to budget for things like “savings transfers” and the ilk. It is helpful to be able to account for those planned movements of my money in my overall budget each month. Overall, a great app! But would love an update that includes being able to budget each month for transfers!
