Great language app

Language Adventures is easily my most used language app for speech therapy. As an SLP, I love the ease with which I can set up the game, as well as the ability to change between receptive and expressive responses. My students always get excited when I let them play and it makes data collection super simple for me. The only drawback is that I often have students working on the same goals and the same questions will be presented to multiple students within the same session. I also wish it would give a summary of which questions were answered incorrectly, so I could better analyze a student’s areas of need.

Awesome language app!

My older elementary school aged kids really enjoy playing Language Adventures. You can target so many receptive and expressive language goals at so many levels!

Terrible

Settings do not work. Written answers too small to read. As a long time customer, I would like a refund. NOT worth the expense.

Such a great app to target various language goals! I love that you can add multiple players and it's set up like a board game. Great overall app!

My favorite language app

This app is worth the price! I love that you can select among many different language targets and then specify if you want to work on the skill expressively or receptively. This app targets so many different language skills at different levels that it works for most of my language delayed students. If you only have the funds to purchase one language app, then this is the one to buy!

This is my go to performance assessment & data collector. Students from kdg. through middle school enjoy use of game board technique. Teachers & parents appreciate instant emailed report and progress. As SLP I appreciate the variety of language areas, three levels of difficulty, receptive & expressive options. A "no regret" purchase.

Report cards not working

My students and I were very disappointed that the results/report card feature is not working. We have written to the app support from the app itself and have received no reply as to what the problem might be. They, the students also are not liking that the die only rolls up to a count of three. I think just adding a four count would make it more of an exciting moment for them. The students also have remarked that the questions are repeating themselves. They don't like that they already gave the answer now the next person that gets the question knows what to say. These responses are from fourth and fifth grade students, which is the reason I purchased the program to have work for my upper grades. I am a speech-language pathologist in the schools but purchased this myself. Wish I had a good point to make, but at this moment I am still just disappointed.

My favorite language app

This app is great for mixed language groups. You can target many different language goals, at different levels, plus you can specify if you want expressive or receptive responses. My students beg to play this app! It is a great app to purchase!

Not working properly

Whenever I try to import students from TRC and assign what they will be working on in the app, as we try to begin the game it says there are no goals for them to address. Also, if I try to edit a student in the app it will only pull up the very first student on the list. It makes me almost not even want to bother playing it because it takes too much time to go in and add the students manually, and then if I want to change any goals I have to delete them and add them all over again. This has been going on for this entire school year. It worked great last year. Please do something to fix it or I would like to get my money back!!!!

Great app

Great app, able to use this app with a wide variety of students on my caseload. For a wish list on a future upgrade - could you ad a feature where you could save the game for a certain group /groups to pick up where they where next time. Often, when working in the schools we run out of time before we can finish the game & have to start all over again the next time we meet. Thanks so much!Steph MsCCCSLP

Description

Language Adventures, now updated with additional content targeting categories, inferences, and wh-questions, is a new spin on your old speech and language game boards! Language Adventures is a first-of-its-kind app that allows you to engage students in a contextual language intervention experience on your iPad! Through an exciting interface and bright, colorful graphics, students will develop language skills in areas for success in school.

All the basics of game play- player selection, dice rolling, and token moving- have been transformed for the iPad platform. Additionally, the app allows you to select from three levels of difficulty appropriate for elementary through high school-aged students, with accompanying school-based themes and vocabulary contexts, and save your students’ targets and progress over repeated plays. Question targets are related to the topics of each leveled game board (playground, cafeteria, and classroom), so that they are grounded in a stronger context to enhance students’ comprehension, semantic connections and use of more complex vocabulary. Language Adventures is based on research regarding language development and use of context clues to increase overall language skills, reading comprehension, and academic success. Research has indicated that targeting vocabulary facilitates reading comprehension and oral language skills (Dole, Sloan, and Trathen, 1995). The questions within Language Adventures are presented within real-world themes providing context clues to assist in learning vocabulary. By providing context-based questions and a thematic approach, Language Adventures assists children in strengthening word connections and developing meaningful concepts (Hickman, et al. 2004). Within the content of Language Adventures, the child is provided with meaningful learning activities related to their own experiences and encouraged to use student-friendly definitions of words within the app, which enhance language comprehension and production (Beck, et al., 2002). Authors: Language Adventures was authored by Nichole Hanneken Ontis, M.S., CCC-SLP and Danielle Sears, M.S., CCC-SLP. App Designers: Sean J. Sweeney & Barbara Fernandes.
