App is OK but fulfillment not so much…

Prices are pretty good. App is easy to set up. The app search function doesn’t search. The only option is to look through each store’s available options. Only 5 stores, all the same chain, are in my state and item photos often don’t match the product description. My main concern is in store fulfillment. In 2 different stores, all available items are kept in locked refrigerator/cabinets at storefront. Orders are not pre-packed and items must be searched for and packed by employees upon pickup arrival. This seems like an unnecessary step and the employees look miserable having to do it, especially if pickup is at a busy time in the store. Stop and Shop needs to do better. I understand protecting inventory but remember the goal is to minimize waste. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be.

DEVS please read suggestion

We love this app! It has saved us a lot of money on our grocery bill and it’s a good feeling to know that the food isn’t going to go to waste. DEVS- by way of suggestion, please allow the grocery store interface to show the same thing the customer sees (original price of item specifically). I’ve had instances where I’ve bought an item priced by weight and there has been other remaining items of the same kind and I have not received the item that I paid for. For quick example- a whole chicken. It may not seem like much, but to someone on a budget- especially in this economy- every dollar counts. I also don’t want to take what someone else has purchased. I’ve also noticed annoyance and even some bad attitudes with the grocery employees when I have (kindly) insisted upon my specific item. They’re busy, I’m busy- it would make things a lot easier if the interfaces mirrored each other more. Thank you!

Nice program idea, terrible execution and customer service

I have had nothing but issues while trying to use this app. First of all, my local store just received a cooler with no further explanation, meaning they have no ability to confirm pickups or remove them from your account. They apparently need a special electronic device to complete orders, and without it essentially anyone can just walk into to store and take whatever they want. If you are honest and bother to use the app, then “available pickups” just sit there forever until you contact customer service. Until recently, customer service would clear the orders from your account when contacted… eventually. Their customer service team is insanely slow, and seems just as uneducated about how this app actually works. Their latest email to me says that due to vague “policies” in place, only a store employee can remove a pickup from your queue. And it takes several days just to hear back from them. It’s not worth it, don’t waste your time on questionable food that could be bad before you even get home.

Great response time

We are fairly new in using this app. We have had very good success. However, over the weekend, we purchased a listing described as “Navel Oranges 72 Ct”, with a picture of a huge stack of oranges. Every other purchase has been as pictured on the app. When picking up the merchandise, we were told the package was for 10 oranges. We requested a refund….was told to apply to the app. Not being aware of how successful that would be, we opted to take the smaller number of oranges. Mid afternoon yesterday, I sent an inquiry asking how we should have handled the transaction. Today, we received a very nice response, and, a credit for the full purchase price. It was stated that they would be addressing the matter with their team and the team at the store. So, a very prompt response and a courteous conclusion. We would highly recommend this app, and, hope more stores will participate.

Has allot of potential, but needs work

This app and what it is trying to accomplish is a great concept, but somethings are not intuitive. You would think you could reposition the map and little pins would show up showing stores that participate and you would think you could change how far out you would travel to go to a store that offers these discounts. That is not the case. You have to use the “explore” option at the bottom of the map page and then not all the stores in your area will show up. Also, I don’t see how you can shop a different area. I have family outside my immediate area who I could shop for, pay the bill, and tell them to pick up the food at the store near them if the functionality was there. Just a few thoughts to maybe make the app more user friendly.

Cost me more than it’s saved me

This app has not saved me any money, it’s cost me money. The app, though it has the ability to tell you when your local store has new items, lacks the function to remind you via push notification that your pickup time/window is closing. The first purchase I made displayed that I had 2-3 days to pick up the order. The way it was written made it appear as if this was the standard amount of time orders would need to be be picked up by. (Digital affordance-type issue) Come to my second order, that I placed on a Thursdsy night, and decided to set my own reminder to pick up Saturday morning… I go to my app that Saturday morning and see no pickups, just my receipt. I navigate to the pickups again, wondering if it was simply because I was on a hike and lacked proper connectivity at the moment - no, it was gone. I decided to call the store to make sure it was gone and sure enough, it was. I navigated to FAQ for FlashFood and OF course, wouldn’t you know - they don’t offer refunds for missed pickups! Absolutely predatory in my opinion. If you’re going to let people spend their money that they are trying to save anyway, then you better make sure they know when they have to pick it up by. Where did my money actually go I wonder? 🤔

Nice app, some kinks to work out

So, we live in a small area and there are only two stores within a few hour drive from us that have this app (kink one). The one we use is about 14 miles from our house. That being said, you can imagine that the inventory is very limited (kink two). I searched other areas and there a many more stores and foods to choose from in larger cities/areas. This is also so new in our area that the store employees still aren’t 100% sure how to operate the system (kink three). But, we have bought a few boxes so far and have been pretty happy. It would help if some contents were listed. Like if it’s an ENTIRE box of lettuce rather than just lettuce on top, that would be nice to know (kink four, but our rabbits are happy!) So far the fruit has been in great shape and the process is pretty simple. My kids say these are the best oranges they’ve ever had. I have six children, so buying large boxes of mixed fruit is perfect, but if we weren’t such a big family, this might be too much to eat in a week or two. If you like to do canning or have animals that will eat the extras, it’s a great deal!

Good concept, so-so execution.

It's brilliant to want to save food from the dumpster while saving customers money, but it's really difficult to buy items consistently and get what I thought I ordered. My biggest challenge is purchasing meats. The pictures are of terrible resolution, and the description is lacking in detail. If I could zoom in on the photo and actually see the label with the weight and description, I could actually make a decision whether I wanted it or not. Is photo storage on the flashfood server limited or something??? I've actually resorted to going to the store and looking directly at the meat in the freezer which raises the hackles of the store employees. My other minor issues are when I buy something and they don't have it. Most of the time the store employee will tell me to get something out of store stock but occasionally I'll get an associate who tells me to request a refund which is a pain in the patootie. Finally, it's hard to get the scale of something when the pics are super zoomed in or zoomed out.

Worth a try.

I have had this app for a couple of weeks. Like many others I have had some issues with pick-ups. Flashfood customer service has been helpful for me. I have reported my issues with the app and on their website. I have gotten responses and resolutions within 3-5 business days. That being said, the grocery stores need to do a better job of training their employees on how this system works. It is very frustrating to arrive at a grocery store to pick up items only to be told they accidentally gave it away, tossed it, or can’t find it and that I need to contact someone else for a refund. It costs me gas and time for nothing. They should give the grocery stores the option to give the refund.

Great for animal rehabilitators

We have to purchase 75% of the food that we feed to the animals during their rehabilitation. This includes meat, fresh vegetables things of that sort. Last year we had over 600 animals come through. We used to get donations of food close to or at expiration date however the grocery store we were getting them from has stopped and we can’t find anyone else willing to do so. We have tax exempt letters for the stores plus all the proper releases of liability for the donated food are also signed. We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity, however many places would still rather throw it away. We’ve bought a lot of food so far through this app and it’s really helped to fill that gap.
