Excellent game, small UI issues

I played this game years ago on PC and was delighted to find it available for touchscreen devices. Even on iPad, this game does not disappoint. Definitely among the best roguelike games I’ve ever played. The music is terrific, the strategy is deep, it’s extremely replayable, and the only reasons for complaint are that the major module upgrades in the shop are covered up so you can’t see the Science cost. There are also some odd text display errors in which the text is sometimes only a letter wide. Overall though, these are small issues and don’t impact my enjoyment of the game that much.

What is this? A game for ants??

I preordered this game because I love roguelike games. I really wanted to like this one and spent last two days trying to get into it.. I just couldn’t do it. First, the tutorial is atrocious and barely introduces you to the game. But my biggest complaint is that the text in this game is really, really small. It’s impossible to read some of it (like merchant prices) and there is no option to change the text size. I do not wear glasses and this is the first time I’ve struggled this much to read game text. There are a few other design choice that made me throw my hands up, but the most annoying the ability to select only one crew member or all of them. Sometimes I wanted to leave one slow crew member in a choke point and use the others to explore and open rooms but I found myself accidentally selecting all which kept moving my slow, ranged character away from his position. This game has potential, but needs a couple updates to realize it’s potential.

One of the Best Roguelikes Ever Made

I’ll just cut to the chase: DotE is one of the best Roguelikes ever made (and it also takes place in and sends the stage for one of the most lore-rich and well fleshed-out fantasy/sci fi universes ever created, if that’s something that interests you). Also, this port quality now with the recent QoL updates is pure gold. I’ve been playing my iPad and iPhone both and having a blast. This will permanently remain on any iOS device I own for the indefinite future. So why are you still reading this? Just buy this game already! And Amplitude, please keep the hits coming!! I’m looking forward to Humankind, but cannot wait for Endless Dungeon!

The RNG alone ruins everything

This game definitely hooked me in. Many playthroughs later and I’m still into it. Amazing music, great characters, etc is what still has me trying to finally win a game, but it honestly feels like I’m likely to never win due to the randomly generated elements of the game making or breaking my chances. The top floor is easily where the RNG matters the most. There’s rooms with no defense options and with limited power to the rooms it’s a huge issue and can throw away all those hours of getting to the top in an instant. Enemies are also an RNG issue. My recent top floor attempt was ruined mainly because the game kept spamming those stupid module destroying enemies in mass so the weapons meant to deal with them couldn’t keep up which exhausted my supplies. It feels like skill doesn’t matter because I’ve got a good handle on the game now but the idiotic randomness negates all that. I’m probably gonna stop trying soon because it’s all up to chance. And a permadeath game that lasts hours just to end simply because of a little bad luck is a waste of time.Edit:Finally won a game. The escape floor spawned close and I managed to barely make it with 2 of my 4 team members dying. Really just came down to luck, which is the main issue.

Bad UI on iPad mini

The game and visuals seem good, but the UI doesn’t display correctly on an iPad mini. At minimum, the research screen renders the second row overlapping the first, obscuring the costs. The confirm/cancel button also appear in the center of the screen, which also seems wrong. As others have mentioned, the font is extremely small. Increasing it might cause other problems fitting everything on screen, though. The game really needs a database or help for anything on screen, so you can read enemy stats/type or preview skills on items before you buy. As it is, you kind of need to play with a fan wiki open.

Good game, but wait to buy until bugs are addressed

Good gameplay. Nice balanced strategy. The tutorial really doesn’t help though, I had to go find online guides to figure it out, so be advised that you will need to learn it elsewhere. The save game system is highly frustrating. I’ve probably lost about 6 games so far where it erased my progress and dropped me back to the start of the level, due to either game crashes, or pausing the game for a bit to do something else and iOS closes the app in the background automatically. When I come back to this app, I get a nice reminder to not close it while it’s saving. (Which I did not do) If you aren’t willing to sit down and play through an entire level at once, then don’t do it as it will be frustrating to lose your progress. The auto-save game needs to happen every room, not every level. I have an iPhone 12 Pro, so it’s not old technology causing the problems.Anyway, wait until they address this bug along with the problems on the research screen layout. Otherwise it would actually be pretty fun.

Ported fairly well.

I’ll start with the negative points first:> The screen isn’t quite adapted for all display sizes, so some things will be cut off, stretched, or misplaced in dialogue or menus depending on your device.(Elevator dialogue only allows 2-3 letters per line)(Research menu moves the 4th upgrade to the bottom of the screen, cutting off research costs for both 1st and 4th upgrade)(Hero skills stack downwards in the skill menu, cutting off tooltip tabs on the skills.)> Hotswapping heroes can be a little wonky sometimes when you need to activate individual skills or do a lot of different things in a rapid timeframe.> No co-op :(—Good things!> The game plays remarkably well and smooth, mostly indistinguishable from the alternative platforms.Very well done for a mobile device port!> It’s just an extremely fun game to get yourself lost in for quite a long time as long as you’re I to these sorts of games.-I don’t have terribly many notable positives to mention because the game is really good, it’s just those negatives stand out a little rough for me.I reaaaaally do wish that all of my characters could have their skill menus available when multiple are selected at once, though.

Review based off 20mins in

This is a bit closer to the way the game is suppose to be played. I was saddened by how the xbox version feels fresh squeezed out of a hot anus. I wish they would give that version the kind of care they are giving this APOGEE EDITION.So this is what a finished version of the game feels like. It’s pretty nice being able to actually use the tactical map to almost full affect. On xbox?.. that tacmap is just a novelty. I think everyone went home early that day. The day that they were porting the tacmap to xbox and porting the options menu as well. 😆I fired this iOS version up and saw the options menu and was like ‘genius, an options menus. Who would have ever considered to put an options menu in a game? I’m being spoiled over here. I had not realized what a dog house in the rain the xbox version really was, 🤣but when you are treated like a dumb-beast long enough, dot dot dot’🤣Yep, this is a proper version that I’d compare to perhaps a fine dining experience. A good morning steak and eggs (closed my eyes, smacking lips together and salivating ) or perhaps an upscale cordon bleu coupled with a savory glass of white wine. 😃Not a half chewed turkey leg thrown into the rainy mud like the xbox version.iOS version highly recommended.

Very Entertaining

So I’m intrigued by the minimalist storyline, atmosphere, the dynamic dungeon settings and layouts. The progress system and character building and design seems solid as well. Great use of screen real estate for the UI, but....while importing this from PC into mobile format, it seems that no consideration was given to the text size on smaller forms (iPhone 11 Pro Max). 70% of all text in the game is way too SMALL (see what I did there?). And the other 30% requires squinting. And I get it- it looks awesome on an iPad (I own one as well), but please developers- on your next update: include an option to enlarge fonts or a zoom-in ability (tap or pinch) on fields that show texts. My eyes hurt. All the same, thank you for this great port, team.

Great game But…

This game is miles deep and a lot of fun for strategists. I have been playing it non stop for weeks since I downloaded it. This is perhaps a testament to to how good the game is, because I’ve noticed that based on reviews from players who have the pc version ( or any other version) this is by far an inferior port. Still a lot of fun though and has has not stopped me from enjoying it. With hard to see visuals, (doesn’t help that I’m playing on an iPhone instead of a tablet) but also extremely annoying text glitches during the elevator sequences, we need a few updates. The text sometime is one letter wide for some reason and is pretty much impossible to read (it’s also way too small). Developers, please fix the messed up text. Also this version is missing the Australium content, would be nice to see that in a new update too.*update to review*There are issues with the construction screen that really need fixing. The major module screen doesn’t display the Med module if you have unlocked all the others (maybe because it’s lower on the screen and there is no way to scroll the window). Please fix as it’s pretty frustrating to not be able to use all the items In the ge.

Description

Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee is the award-winning Rogue-Like Dungeon-Defense game, in which you and your team of heroes must protect the generator of your crashed ship while exploring an ever-expanding dungeon, all while facing waves of monsters and special events as you try to find your way out. The Apogee Edition of Dungeon Of The Endless includes the full game and five DLCs. WHAT’S BEHIND THE DOOR?

A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust. In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet. Luckily, every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of Endless facility, all the way down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon… Gather A Team • Form a team of heroes, each with their own strengths (and psychoses) • Equip them, deploy them, and earn powerful abilities • Manage the balance between ex-prison inmates and guards Build Your Defenses • Use the Dust you gather to power the rooms • Use scarce resources to help your team survive • Build minor and major modules to hold off waves of monsters • Decode Endless ruins to discover life-saving technologies Open the Door • Each door is a danger; prepare yourself and your team for anything • Explore and discover an infinity of levels and layouts • Carry your crystal through waves of monsters to the exit of each level • Fight your way to the surface to discover the truth about Auriga The Apogee Edition includes the following add-ons • DEEP FREEZE: New ship, New game mode and New character • DEATH GAMBLE: New merchant • RESCUE TEAM: Three new characters, New monsters, New major module • ORGANIC MATTERS: New ship, New game mode, New character, New minor modules, New monsters • BOOKWORM: New ship, New character Carefully Redesigned for Mobile • Revamped interface • Cloud Save • Pay once to get the full Dungeon of the Endless: Apogee game and 5 DLCs!
