Used to be Great

I used to absolutely love this game! It’s so fun to play with friends and family. The new update, however, took away the feature to play with strangers! I used to be able to join a game as a setter or guesser and it would wait to put me in a game until it could find other players. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they took this part of the game away. It was so fun to play with others especially when my friends weren’t available. Please add this back. No clue why you would take it away! Also, the ads are getting ridiculous. There are way too many.

Near clone of Codenames

I’ve gotten most of my close friends and family members hooked on this app. There is definitely a learning curve and a need to explain (and even send screenshots of) the official Codenames rules to every player before the games are fair and competitive. First criticism - the ability to go beyond 3 words as a setter is not readily apparent. I didn’t realize I could swipe left until I witnessed a random opponent give a 5-word clue several days after I had downloaded the game. Everyone I’ve introduced to the game struggles with this realization as well. Second criticism - please provide an update that adds new words to the deck. While the base deck provides countless clue permutations, the fact that players feel like they’ve seen the entire deck after only 8-10 games gives off a feeling of staleness. Add a second deck, or at least 20 new words, in the next update to freshen things up. I’m telling you, I’ve had people lose interest and stop playing due to the repetitive nature of the word bank.

Great game

Great game! Needs to be a bit more user friendly between games and setting them up. Otherwise, the only problem is that more people aren’t playing.

Totally recommend!!!

My friends and I have become addicted to this app. We usually have four or five games going at the same time. It’s so much fun to keep me connected with good friends that live far away. Love hearing the recognizable ding telling me that it’s my turn. Great game to stretch your brain and think outside the box. When the game is over it’s fun to talk with my friends and see what direction they were going with the clue they gave. Totally recommend this app!

Got me through the pandemic!

This is a fantastic app version of Codenames, which I love. You can play with strangers or with friends, or even make friends with other players! Unlike other phone games that feel like they melt my brain, this is actually challenging and stimulating. It’s been a great activity during the pandemic. Also, the developer and his family members actually play the game and enjoy it, so that’s a great recommendation in itself. I met them through the app and they’re really nice! And fantastic players.I highly recommend CodeWords ☺️.

Great fun with family and friends!

For those who like CodeNames, this is the best mobile version of that game. You can play with family and friends that live far away or you can all play together while sitting in the same room! You can also play games with total strangers. The daily guesser is always fun and you get to see how you did compared to you friends. Such a fun game!

A Quarantine Lifesaver

This app is singlehandedly getting me through my Quarantine. I can’t get enough of it. Only suggestion is to find a way to pick up the pace of gameplay - some people sit on games for days, and they don’t delete for 7 days. If someone doesn’t play for 24 hours, there should be an option for another person to pop into the game! Thanks for this, developers 😘

game changer for us!

Codenames has been a sacred addition to our game nights. We’ve literally played several thousand hours in person, on tabletop simulator, on a web app. It’s the perfect game. This is sick. This helps us stay connected when we can’t make physical meetups. Thank you! Going to tell every single friend I know from the tabletop community. Any chance for adding friends and a opt-in chat in the future?0 clue and infinite clue functionality is a bit of a skill curve problem but maybe some version with those when player base gets larger?

Fun but tough

Great way to stay connected to friends and family. Better when you’re playing with people who have similar background and/or education as you.

Still a huge fan

Ohhh, I get it. With the newest update, I will always APPEAR to have the blue clues. This solves the problem of me erroneously giving a clue for the OTHER team. When I have multiple games going, I’ve done THAT too often than I want to admit. I like the notifications now too. Quick play is more fun with the feedback.Daily Guesser might be my favorite thing. I like seeing how I do compared to my friends. No day is complete without it. Sometimes I wonder how I did compared to everyone who played. I have friends who are saving up daily guessers to do with their kids. Kids love this game! Maybe you can make a junior version.Anyway, thanks for making CodeWords part of my life.

Description

Like playing Codenames? You'll love CodeWords! CodeWords is a 4-player (2 against 2) word game.

The objective is to select all of your team’s cards on the 4x6 grid before the other team selects theirs. If a player mistakenly selects the Death Card, their team automatically loses. Each team has a Setter and a Guesser. Turns go as follows: 1. The Setter communicates with their teammate by entering a clue (the CodeWord) and indicating the number of cards they are targeting. 2. The Guesser selects their guess based on the CodeWord. 3. The turn is over when an incorrect card is selected or the Guesser is done guessing (they can guess up to one card beyond the number of targets in a given turn) The game is over when a team’s cards have all been selected or the Death Card is selected. So, grab some friends and start playing!
