They make 10% to place you in a boot camp

This app is TRASH!! Here is how it works. If you do you research you’ll see that this “company” gets a cut from “placing” you into a boot camp. “Currently, Career Karma only makes money one way: it charges a fee to bootcamps when it successfully places a student in one of their programs. The fee is usually 10% of a placed-student’s tuition, which could range from $10,000 to $50,000, Harris says. It’s worth noting that a school pays Career Karma up front no matter what financing option the student chooses, taking money out of their marketing or admissions budgets.”Stay away these folks are deceitful and don’t disclose that they get a cut from placing you in a boot camp. How’s this not a conflict of interest!?

Really Powerful

The app keeps you involved. It has so much great information for your tech journey. It doesn’t feel like an app with the live groups, feedback you get and interactions. I definitely feel like they want me to win.

A good way to get started

I have checked out this app and it helped me a lot to know more about my options on how I can break in to tech. They are not a bootcamp but they helped me know more about them and gave me free learning resources and information about what a bootcamp is and what the different tech careers are together with free prep courses to help me know if software engineering is right for me 👍👍 Thank you 🙏

Spamy Phone Calls From Multi Numbers

I started receiving very spamy phone calls from people claiming to be from career karma, shortly after downloading the app and registering for an account. The app asks for a phone number when registering, but the app dose not say or ask permission to use the phone number provided to contact me via phone call. Inside the settings of the app, there is no contact/privacy settings where you can choose an option to have your information kept private/not shared/not contacted by some call center. Said Call center is definitely not in America either, I'd say India based off the accents of every person From credit karma that has call me. the app also dose not provide any options to remove or change your phone number at all. I find this all to be very odd and a bit shady. App has great reviews but I just can't be OK with the lack of privacy and lack of my choices on being contact. 0 stars.

Big Yikes.

Let’s start off by saying that this isn’t the most horrible app I’ve encountered but don’t be fooled by the “you’ll never pay a dime” gimmick. There is a wide network of people which is great and what they are referring to, other than that, they expect you to sign up for a boot camp that costs anywhere from 15k to 25k. Also. Be prepped to get about 10 emails a day from them, 25-50 messages, and constant pushing into a “coaching session” which is just trying to push you into paying 15k for a boot camp.

Learn, network, GROW!

I have had nothing but excellent, positive experiences on Career Karma. A lot of people are saying they push bootcamps, but there are TONS of people on there who are doing self-directed learning and swapping ideas for how to build skills for free. I got a free laptop from them so that I could continue my studies. I’ve met recruiters and people working in jobs/fields I want to pursue who have shared really helpful information. I would highly recommend checking out the website and app. As with all social media, it’s important to keep a healthy dose of caution when exchanging information and it’s wise to be wary of people who don’t have links to other social media sites to verify their legitimacy. If you want to learn and get ideas, it’s a good place to start!!

I’ve had this app for over a month….

and finally decided to check out one of the classes for beginners, I listened for about 15min and got a lot of guidance on what to do and how to find out what I’m good at. I’m 41 and disabled. Trying to start a new career in tech. When I was in school the only thing taught about computers was how to type. I hope to be a success story for Career Builders.

Pros and Cons (don’t be fooled)

Pros:- Really good platform and great free resources- gives you an environment with like minded people- free live audio sessions with real industry employees- for beginners wanting to explore tech- great for those set on joining a boot camp Cons:- not necessarily “career coaching”.... Their mentors and coaches strategy is not necessarily to coach you around your goals but to funnel you into a boot camp- recurring strategy is to get you into a boot camp- boot camp enrollment push is quite aggressive - within 24 hrs I received 5-8 emails urging me to apply to a boot camp, my coach meeting was completely focused on getting me to join a boot camp rather than shaping my goals, then received a sales call to join a boot camp, all within 24 hrs.- transparency on the goal should be better crafted: more on getting the student into a boot camp (which has its value) rather than positioning as career coachingThis is a pretty good platform in my opinion for learning and getting into a boot camp. Apart from positioning themselves too broadly (debatably deceptively). Seems like their guiding metric is “boot camp enrollment.” As long as you understand their model then you can use this valuably but don’t be misguided. Hope this helps.
