Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph

I opened the box and check that all the parts were there, they were. I read the instructions until I understood each step, then I took it out and gave it a try. I connected the 15' cord and opened the app on my iPhone 6s, turned on the chronograph all in the correct sequence listed in the instructions. Everything worked flawlessly the try, the only option I didn't try was the Bluetooth option. At this time it was not necessary since I had the 25' cord supplied with the unit. I'm 100% satisfied with my purchase, I may invest in the lighting kit if it becomes necessary. Great product, I would recommend it to a friend for sure.RedDog

Good functionality, needs a key improvement

I got the chrono for its innovative upside down design that avoids glare from sun. The Bluetooth function is a huge help and it was another key reason for buying the unit. One BIG improvement the app needs is to export a CSV file(s) of the shot strings. This would make importing data into spreadsheets really easy. If the CSV export were added, my rating would move from 3 to 5! Are you watching this, Caldwell?

Works great, no problems

I didn't have a problem with connection to my ipad. I had a problem connecting it to my iphone, but it was my fault. When you open the app for the first time, it will ask permission to access the mic. I clicked no and it wouldn't connect until i gave the app permission. The only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is the app will not rotate when you rotate the ipad. Very frustrating when i have it in the keyboard dock. If they fix it, it would be 5 stars all the way.

Chrono works as expected

I bought this to measure my reloads and this chronograph works great. Tripod is sturdy, whole unit and app works great. The only downside I would have to say is the app in which we can add brands of cartridges and bullet size. It does not want to add three digits for bullet size. It will use the first two digits only. For example if I would insert 0.224 it will show 0.22 and for 9mm I would but 0.355 it would put 0.36. Also the app will not add to and existing brand. If I wanted to add Federal brand of cartridge it will create a new field. Also could add plated bullets brands or just played bullets to the app.

Needs to be able to sync with apps on other devices

I like the Chronograph and the app but it would be a lot nicer if the app would sync to other devices. Personally I like being able to record the data on my iphone but since the phone screen is so small it would be really nice to sync that data with my ipad and be able to view and edit the data on my ipad.Also the bullet data is pretty far out of date. There is no bullet data for Hornady ELD-X bullets as yet and these have been out for a quite a while now.

Works fine on iPhone6s (corded)

This works fine on iPhone6s with the cord plugged in. You must turn off Bluetooth (in the app! Not just your device settings!) before it will recognize a cord connected device, which is a bug the developers should fix.Recorded data well, with the cord being removed and reinserted several times as we switched stations during the day.Highly recommended, it is simple and works well to relieve the mundane effort from data recording. Took shot data at faster than one per second. Bright sunny day at over 95deg F. May not be the most accurate device, but seems good enough for my needs.

Hangs Up !

The Chronograph works very well- never had any problems with the unit . How ever, about 20% of the time the software on the app freezes. The only way to clear the problem is to ‘delete ‘ the app and then go to the App Store and download again. The worst part of this exercise is that you loose all the data that was stored . So, I’ve been recording the data by hand . The problem occurs in saving the data . The unit works great but the SW stinks !

App doesn’t find chronograph.

I have had the chronograph to the range three times. The app won’t connect to the device with Bluetooth or the hard cable. I see that several reviews mention the iPhone 6 and 6S, but my 6S will not recognize the device. I have allowed access to the microphone. I have turned off Bluetooth to use the cable. I have removed and re-installed the app a couple of times. It still does not make a connection, wireless or wired.I have enjoyed Caldwell products for many years, but this chrono and app are useless.I would give no stars.

No way to pre-load shot lists

Shot lists must be created when shooting, so there is no way to enter load data in ahead of time. This makes it a real pain and time consuming to type all this in while at the firing line during round development.Also, no way to add shots to a saved group, or add a shot manually in a string in the event of communication issues via the cable or Bluetooth. Lastly, the ability to add a picture to the saved shot string is great, but it can only access the camera, so you can’t use a photo from the library. It would be better to also allow the user to select an image from the library so that they can quickly take images of all groups at once, and add them to the saved shot groups later. (This would also allow the user to user images that have been annotated with group size by other apps)Disappointed that there has been no updates in 4 years.

Records great. Better reports would make it 5 stars

It does everything I want it to and is simple to use but reviewing the results is pretty cumbersome and takes to much time. It would help if it could export the data in a usable format but the email and messaging files are not easy to read or use.

The Ballistic Chronograph app is for use with the Caldwell line of Ballistic Chronographs supporting a 3.5mm line-out serial port. Users running iOS 7 or greater • When prompted “Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph” Would Like to Access the Microphone - select OK. • Please ensure that Settings -> Privacy -> Microphone -> Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronometer is enabled (Access Granted). Running the app with the setting disabled will result in no shots being seen even though the app is showing it as connected.

Users running version 1.14 or greater • When prompted “Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph” Would Like to Access the Camera - select OK. • When prompted “Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph” Would Like to Access Photos - select OK. • Please ensure that Settings -> Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronometer -> Camera is enabled (Access Granted). Chrono G2 users running 1.17 or greater To enable Bluetooth in the app. In the Chrono Settings - set Bluetooth enabled. If prompted - Turn on Bluetooth to Allow "Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph" to Connect to Accessories. Select Settings. Turn on Bluetooth. If prompted - Bluetooth is not enabled. Enable Bluetooth to continue. In Settings - Turn on Bluetooth.
