Excellent functionality poor business model

This is an excellent app for playing solo or in duplicate tournaments. You can start in a duplicate at any time with scores available in 90 minutes including results and play details from the other tables. All good. BUT if you want this app on multiple platforms you’ll have to play twice and create unique profiles for each device. My “lifetime membership”, a vote of confidence for these developers when the app was young, doesn’t apply if I also want to play on a tablet. If they fix that: five star app.

Makes outrageous errors

Bridge Ace has some nice features. Its bidding is all right, but it makes errors on play and defense that are absurd and frustrating. When the player is on defense, it has no idea how to handle opening leads. For example, in a suit contract I led a small heart from Qxxxx. Dummy came down with K9 in hearts, good trumps, and six solid clubs. Declarer played the hK and partner won the hA. It’s obvious that it’s time to cash the defense’s winners before declarer can pitch his losers on the clubs. What did partner do? He returned a club from xxxxx! That was the end of the defense. When the app is defending, it generally plays okay in the open room, but makes ridiculous mistakes in the closed room. For example, it might lead the king from Kxxxx in an unbid suit, handing declarer the contact. And it often ducks the setting trick, even when it’s obvious that declarer has the rest of the tricks. iBridge Plus made a lot of errors, too, but it was less frustrating than Bridge Ace. I’m going back to iBridge.LATER - I’ve updated the critical review above from 2 to 5 stars because: Bridge Ace has significantly upgraded the software. It has been a long time since I’ve seen errors such as I mentioned above; I play Bridge Ace almost every day. It’s fun and it improves my game.

Good feedback on your playing style and choices - NOT for novices

This app is a great tool for early intermediate players to get AI feedback on their bidding choices and card plays, with the option to go back and try a different bid if your first one is not appropriate based on your hand. It also can give you hints about the odds of success on which is the best card to play, before you play it. This app is NOT for first time Bridge novices who haven’t learned the basics of bridge bidding conventions. I would recommend using the “Learn Bridge” app by Wesley May for that.

ACE rubber and duplicate app

I am a solid intermediate bridge player and continue to avoid crowds due to Covid. I have learned a lot from playing rubber bridge and decided to turn to duplicate. The duplicate setup in ace bridge is friendly and very informative. The information sheets and videos are so useful. As are the many ways to compare myself to others. This is a great app to use playing the computer bots or playing with a partner.

Really works and well

I never have provided a review of a game. To be honest it’s because they all have too many ads, and many of them simply seem to be repeats of the same old thing. I went back looking for a bridge app for that reason. I’ve now spent a couple weeks on this app and it’s predecessor. Both have been glitch free. And because I do not have a local partner I love that I have options to play versus the robot. Bidding in general is good. I really like that I can follow the suggested bidding and if I don’t like it, I can try the hand again with my own version of the bid. Nice game. And the only game I’ve found where I’m actually willing to spend a small amount to get additional hands. And yes, the fee is reasonable. Count me happy.

Great way to learn and practice Bridge.

I use this app almost everyday to reinforce what I am learning in my weekly classes. It’s easy, forgiving, and so very helpful. One of my favorite features is that I can replay the hand myself to see if I could do better or I let it replay automatically to show me a more successful way to play it. This is the best one I’ve found and I’ve tried several. Love this addictive , challenging game an$ Brudge Ace has made it more fun. Thanks!

Without a doubt, best bridge game ever.

Even though I played duplicate long enough to get a life master, I earn my stripes in hard fought battles of Chicago & rubber bridge, so I’m pleased by all the gaming options. Equally impressive are the hint & explanation options. Though I played 2/1 when I played duplicate, I’ve forgotten most of it, along with other bridge skills due to inactivity, so this app is the perfect one for me & anyone else who wants to sharpen their skills.

Not so Stellar as is Marketed

While the user interface is well designed and while I enjoy playing, I find myself frustrated in the following areas this leading to a 3 star review:1-As in most bridge programs of this type, the authors use too many conventions. How about enabling a mode where most of these are turned off to support beginners who do not know or care not to learn them? Stayman and Jacoby xfer are the basics most of us learn early. Too many conventions are used here leading to a frustrating experience.2-Where do you come off supporting an opening bid of one in a major with four cards? SAYC mandates a promise of five yet no matter what the setting your program continues to open with four in many cases. Never heard of this and also very frustrating.3-It can be a bit frustrating replaying a hand to see how the ‘computer’ played it to earn so many points. After following many of these once again I get frustrated for it appears these conventions are coming out of nowhere leading to a contract that in no way would I have ever dreamed of playing in. In many cases it actually doesn’t even make sense. Many more times the play of the cards seems to be based on pure luck rather than strategy/ skill 4-Please - no program is bug free. Your recent email suggests otherwise.

New Name Requires New Subscription

I bought this app sometime ago and paid for a lifetime subscription. Then it was called iBridge. I sent in a suggestion for an improvement and was told that a new much improved and updated version would be coming soon. What I didn’t expect was that it would be simply a name change and would require me to pay another lifetime subscription for essentially the same app with improvements. The developers offer a free six month subscription to the new app, but my lifetime subscription has gone away. Fair? You decide, but be warned your lifetime subscription to this app can similarly go away when they make major improvements.

Unique Bridge App

Although I am a terrible bridge player, I am enjoying practicing on this app. Each “round” of duplicate deals 8 hands to up to 8 players. Your score is compared to the AI player, and also shows your rank among the other players. I intend on improving since I am competing against so many! I DO wish that this was similar to another app I use where it is possible to replay and replay the same hand and, if unable to make the contract, have the tutor explain what needs to happen. For now, though, it is an addicting game to play. I enjoy it unless I end up 8th out of 8😢but that’s my fault, not the app!

Description

BridgeAce has been developed by the same team which brought you iBridgePlus ten years ago - the app which consistently had the highest number of 5* reviews on the App Store, and which came top in most comparative tests against other Bridge apps. (Please don't just take our word for this - read the iBridgePlus reviews!) The team is constantly looking to improve, and we are thrilled to launch BridgeAce, which takes 'solo' Bridge play to another level altogether: • Ten years in development, by the team which brought you the 5* rated iBridgePlus app • Superb International-standard Bridge Artificial Intelligence (AI) wrapped with an intuitive, clear, user-friendly interface • Generous FREE period of use to test and evaluate the app • NO ANNOYING ADS – transparent, flexible and affordable pricing structure with NO AUTOMATICALLY RECURRING SUBSCRIPTIONS • Comprehensive ‘Hint’ and ‘Explain’ features to guide the beginner • Powerful Bridge AI will challenge the expert player to the limit of their skills • Play Rubber, Chicago, Teams or Duplicate * and now PLAY LIVE in REAL TIME with your chosen partner • Unique ‘Memory Joggers’ feature ** • The AI can generate over 2.6 billion unique deals BridgeAce is the ultimate ‘Solo’ Bridge app. You are always playing on your own, (that’s right … NEVER playing with or against another human) and you’re always partnered by, and playing against, the powerful AI. • Select from one of the 22 built-in bidding systems, from the most basic to the highly complex and technical • All the systems are fully documented (and printable) for easy reference • All bids (and bid hints) can be explained on screen, on demand. • Tweak, change, or totally redesign bidding systems using the ‘Alter My System’ tool. * Playing Duplicate on BridgeAce is a unique, unpressurised experience. You are given a set of eight hands, to play on your device, with your AI partner North, playing against the AI East/West opponents, all using your chosen bidding system.

The SAME set of hands are given to 7 other users, who will be playing them under the same conditions, on their devices. Therefore the only ‘variable’ in the match are the eight human South players. When the results are published, many of you will realise that you are not as bad as you made yourself out to be, while some of you will awaken to the fact that you are not quite as good as you thought :-) All the results are completely transparent, and you can examine how every competitor bid, and played the hand. Duplicate is totally anonymous – only your display name is shown, so no-one will know who was the person who went down three in the simple 1NT contract!! :-) ** Whatever age we are, we all suffer from those ‘senior moments'. Memory Joggers (MJ) is a feature available in all modes (restricted use in Duplicate) to help you remember the important salient facts about the hand. Imagine this. You’re at trick 8, and cannot remember … • Has the Queen of Hearts been played yet? – There’s a MJ which will tell you exactly which of the Top Honour cards are still out. • How many hearts are still out? – There’s a MJ which will show you how many cards are out in the four suits. • How many HCP has East shown so far – There’s a MJ to show how many HCP each hand has shown so far, and indeed you can drill down and see which cards every seat has played so far. Memory Joggers is the perfect tool to help you train yourself to memorise these important elements of a hand during play. What else makes BridgeAce stand out from the crowd? • App is packed with instructional documents and videos to guide and help you • ‘My Hands’ – a feature which enables you to save, annotate and replay memorable hands • ‘Info’ button on every page with useful information • Bespokable interface – get the look and feel that pleases you most • International sets of cards for our friends from around the globe • ‘Night Mode’ to dim the screen (your bed partner will LOVE this!)
