You’re Paying for A Service
I see some reviews here that point out the cost is more than a cab, even when you ride in a cab. This is true but you’re paying for the additional services. I booked the ride prior to departure. My flights got messed up. They reached out via the app and scheduled a new driver at a new time. My first driver met me inside the Athens airport, with a sign, he took my wife’s bags and escorted us to his clean new cab. He gave us some history and we chatted about the NBA. The app allowed me to reach out directly to another driver I’d been assigned to tell him we needed to leave for the airport earlier than anticipated. No problem - he was there. Another driver offered to take photos of us. It’s a higher touch service than Uber, Lyft, Bolt or a cab. That comes with a cost and that is ok by me.
Will Use When I can
Unlike other reviews, I was able to book my pickup a few weeks in advance. I then booked my return 7 days out and all worked perfectly. Driver was waiting, gracious and friendly. On return, pickup was right on time.
Stay away from this company
Very unhelpful overall in getting picked from the airport. If you have flight delays, good luck getting picked up; we never did. Our driver had multiple pickups after us and no one else was available. We notified them of our delay and were told this. We also inadvertently had our itinerary in reverse and tried to correct this 9-10 hours in advance but were told we couldn’t even though their website says only “a certain amount of time” is needed to modify reservations but they claimed it was 24 hours, even though that timeframe is only listed for cancellations, not modifications. Their customer service people were not helpful and didn’t seem to care. The only person who sort of tried to help us was the driver, but he had multiple pick ups and was the only person apparently we could use. Overall this company seems to want to take your money without providing any services if they think they can do it. If you’re flying into Rome, just go to the taxi stand. It’s a lot cheaper and was quick for us.
Reliable and friendly service
We used Welcome Pickups three times during our stay in Athens and all experiences were great. Drivers were always on time, friendly and communicated with me via the app so I knew exactly where they would meet us. It was easy to book using the app and to pre-pay. We provided tips directly to the drivers. I definitely recommend and would use again.
Early morning pick up
Our family had a very early morning pick up to the Lisbon airport. We needed a service that is reliable, on time and comfortable. We received terrific service from Welcome Pickup. This was our second time using this service and both times very good.
Excellent service; app a bit glitchy
I booked three transfers while in Greece and my experiences with drivers and overall service were excellent. The app itself was ok for basic functionality, but cumbersome to get to details about my upcoming ride, instead continuously showing me details of a ride in the past every time I opened the app. Additionally, buttons weren’t all easy to access, often conflicting with OS buttons.
Pleasant drive in Edinburgh
I used Welcome Pickups from the airport in Edinburgh to my Airbnb in Old Town. I received a lot of detailed information (including pictures) about the pick up location ahead of time. This made the process very easy even at an unfamiliar airport. The ride was great and the driver extremely helpful with info about the city and things to do and see. I will use this service again anywhere it’s available.
Great service to take the guess work out of taxis at the airport
Our driver was outstanding. Prompt, communicative, and very helpful. He even helped us by translating with a restaurant owner in Lavrio that we needed to have lunch and then stay for a bit of time before our ferry departed. It was great to have an advocate who spoke great English and made our transfer experience easy as could be!
Excellent Service in Athens, Greece
I used the Welcome Pickups app when I traveled to Athens, Greece in June 2022. The app was easy to use, clear, and effective; easy to pay. Welcome Pickups in Athens, Greece was excellent. I used their services twice. First time was an airport pick up. The driver had a sign with my name and drove me to Athsn city center. The second time it was an early morning ride from Athens to the port of Rafina. Both rides were flawless—drivers were very professional, freindly, and polite, and on time. I plan to use their servies again.
Mixed Feelings
I’ve got mixed feelings about this service. Let’s start with the kinds of cars that you get. On the app we were told that we would be getting a larger Mercedes Van to fit all of us and our large luggage that we were carting for a couple of weeks throughout Europe. When we landed in Vienna, we got a smaller Toyota SUV and when we got picked up there was a Toyota Prius that was a taxi. While I get this is a higher level of service that you don’t get from the average taxi service don’t promise me that I am getting a larger car and more like a private driver and switch it out to a taxi. Secondly, because they rely on taxis the reliability of your pick up is based on the country and the current conditions. In Vienna all was great and reliable (minus the swap out of the vehicle type). But we couldn’t get a pick up when we got to Rome because there was a taxi strike! And as a result everything got cancelled at the last minute so we would up walking the streets of Rome with our luggage in tow. Personally would have paid much higher price for a better ride and more reliable pick up and drop off (which is what we wound up doing in Rome through our hotel to ensure that we were able to catch our flight out without any stress). Overall not a horrible service, but not something that would keep the stress of summer travel to a minimum either. As long as you know what you are in for and have back up plans than I guess you’ll be ok with using this service.
