Decent but doesn't live up to the hype.

I wanted to love this game. And I was certain I would based on the reviews. But sadly, it just didn't do it for me. I hate to say it, but boredom and frustration are two words that I would use to describe this game. None of the puzzles are even close to being hard to solve. But it seems the creators make up for that fact by making the solutions time consuming. If moving blocks around again and again and again, back and forth and back and forth, sounds like a great time, then this game is probably for you. If not, you'll probably end up bored, frustrated and disappointed. There are also aggravatingly difficult platformer elements interspersed throughout the game. Which might seem like it would be a great break from the monotony but somehow made the whole experience even more frustrating.Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this game. But I can't fathom how it has such stellar reviews. It's unique, well crafted and has a fun story. And the use and combinations of different types of block to solve puzzles is a great idea. But the gameplay itself leaves a lot to be desired. I found myself finishing the game just so I could get it over with and move on.

An emotional story about... rectangles?

I had heard things about this game. I heard it was great. So when I realized I could get this on my iPhone, I was overjoyed. So now here I am. Beaten all the levels. Collected all the collectibles. And I still play it though. It might not be great in gameplay or graphics. But what does it strive in? Storytelling. The story is dang amazing! One of the best stories yet! And that's saying something because I've played Undertale. It's also really dang emotional! Yet again, because I've played Undertale. I felt like I was stabbed with a dagger in the chest after playing chapter 4. (You'll know what I mean once you play the game) I really would call this 11/10. No, 15/10! The only thing I can complain about is the price. I think $1 would be a better price as the game goes by fast. But overall it's a really great game. 15/10

Absolutely Stunning

A truly stunning game. The writing is positively perfect, and the narrator executes the script with exquisite taste. Playing the first few levels, my smile grew from ear to ear after hearing the witty banter from these strange little blocks. The characters are so fleshed out, so well written, for, well... blocks! They portray these very human-like emotions that actually moved me to tears. And the music, oh the music. Don't even get me started, because it's some of the best I've heard. The soundtrack provides this astonishing aesthetic for the game that I simply cannot put into words. Art direction in this game is simply phenomenal; the contrast between the background and the characters is truly incredible. An award-winning app, it provides a beautiful, heartwarming story, as well as some amazing humor. This is more than just a game, it's an experience. This game provides a powerfully moving, beautiful, undertone, which, in the end actually brought tears to my eyes. Gorgeously created, I would recommend all to play this game.

Best Game I've Played on an iPhone

This game was amazing and definitely deserves its five star rating. The game's mechanics are similar to other basic platformers, but makes the levels fun and intriguing because of the different abilities of the rectangles. This makes the gameplay richer. And of course I must not forget the story. When I bought this game and saw its glowing reviews I was pretty skeptical of whether the plot would be that good. I was very pleasantly surprised! I became so attached to the characters, I found myself routing them on at points at grieving them others. The narration really makes the rectangles come alive and the story is quite deep and emotional. And finally the soundtrack is better than any game I've played on iPhone and really set the stage during the sad parts. The only complaint I have was the ending was a bit abrupt, but the rest of the story makes up for it. There is also an additional few missions that is basically a prequel and gives the background of one of the characters. I'd love to see more additional missions with back stories of the other characters! Over all it's a great game and highly recommend it!

Frustrating and fun

All in all this is a fun game, but I'm rating it 3 stars because it isn't worth the money. It's a platformer with some puzzle elements. The characterization and story line are fun but spread too thin. The main thing is that I never turn the game off satisfied. Only frustrated. Some of the levels have difficult sections which would be fine except that the game has this nasty habit of making unforgivably hard platforming sections to get through repeat five or six times. If that wasn't bad enough, it mocks you by making it so that if you get through 5/6 platforms, and mess up on the sixth you have to start over. It gets particularly nasty when gravity puzzles are implemented. Also the controls could have handled better. Many puzzles require you put one character stand on the edge of a ledge, then change characters, but most of the time the game interprets an attempt to change characters as an attempt to walk off said ledge and start over. I've quit more times because of this than anything. Finally, there is a character who can double jump, except the game has a really we did idea of when it is/isn't appropriate to do so. So sometimes you'll make leaps of faith onto platforms only to find that the game decided you didn't deserve a double jump that time, so you fall to your death. In summary, there is a fine line between challenging and frustrating.

Very cool game

I really enjoyed the style and feel of this narrative driven platformer. It's definitely a gamer's game, with lots of little references to pop culture and video games in general. Although it's not super challenging, and the level design isn't groundbreaking, many of the areas are cleverly constructed and the pacing of the game feels right. I did notice in this version on my iPad that achievements only appeared to unlock at the beginning of the game, though when I checked in the Game Center they were becoming unlocked as I progressed. Also, about two thirds of the way in I began to have serious issues with my mifi controller, where the game would suddenly get stuck pushing me in one direction or jumping repeatedly, even when I switched to just iPad controls. I had to reset the game completely and unsync my controller to alleviate this, finishing the game with touch controls only. It doesn't keep this game from being a very cool little platformer that is easy to recommend! Maybe in the future the devs will come through and patch some of these minor issues.

10 out of 10!!

I love this game, and it’s certainly my favorite mobile game. People usually play addictive and mindless games that really have no point, but this is a beautiful concept and all the characters have unique and interesting personalities.I remember when I was young I would watch my sisters play this game, back when it was available in the PS3 Store. They never did get that far, and since it was a very long time ago and since it was available as a mobile game I decided I would buy it. It was worth the money and worth much, much more. It’s entertaining, beautiful, and such a nice game. The narration is so peaceful and the music is amazing. It just comes to show that you don’t need the best graphics if you have a story to tell, and oh boy does this game have a story. 10 out of 10 and I implore everyone to play this game.

Very cute :)

I just finished level 1.10, and I say... This is just so ingenious. Even though the characters are just simple squares and rectangles, you gave them personalities, which in fact, gave them quite the charming demeanor. Even though there just shapes. They're very cute. Original fresh. Ever since Pewdiepie and Tobi played this game, I was just enthralled with it, unfortunately- I didn't exactly have the money for it on PC, so when it was released for the App Store, I was just thrilled, and used a and App Store gift card to buy. However the controls are a tad bit frustrating. Sometimes I move my thumb too far from the arrows, that Thomas, Christopher, John, or any another AI just stops short from where I originally wanted them to be. If you could increase the control area for the arrows, that'd be amazing. Again, this is just a wonderful game. It just has to be features as the editors choice or an app of the week. Cause it's just that fantastic. Money well spent. Happy gaming. 👾

Great platforming fun, with a story!

An iOS game with nice minimalistic graphics, great gameplay has a GOOD STORY? No way! I only had 5 dollars left over on my account, and decided between TWA (thomas was alone) or TNG (Traps n Gemstones). They had the same IDEA, right? Well, thats what I thought. TNG was an adventure platformer, like those old games that everyone loves, where you collect treasure, and all enemies one hit you. I thought this would be the same, but seeing the reviews about a full blown out story took me away. While TNG is not going to be $2.99 for a long time, i thought, TWA isnt going to be 4 dollars for a while either! The stroy element took me away, and im glad i made that choice. The music, the voice acting of the narrator, the sound effects of "inverse falling", just blew my mind, and Im so glad I bought TWA. Its a beautiful game, even if it was "made" for 9,10 and 11 year olds.

The Blocks of the Century

A truly fantastic app. I love the narration, it's almost better than the game itself. And the simplicity of the game is phenomenal. Honestly, it's the best game I've possibly ever played. It's addictive, though not in an annoying way. It's very intellectual- The geometry and physics of it are really puzzling, it truly makes you think. My only complaint, would be the lack of more levels. I suppose it's one of those one-hit-wonder sort of things, but it felt like it needed more... Like it shouldn't have ended there, like there was more to the story. Maybe it's hard to get the narrator back, and I understand the process of these type of games must be truly difficult, but I loved Thomas, James, Chris, Laura, and all the rest... I hate to see them end here. It feels like a cliff. A gap in their journey, that is in need of fulfillment. Those were my thoughts, anyway. I'm just a lowly 11-year-old though, so I suppose that I may not understand the complexity of the game-making world. The best game I've played yet though- So keep up the good work and hopefully keep up the creative Thomas characters, and make them alive again!!! They deserve the five-star-rating!!!$
