The RG is a great national and local newspaper!!

I’ve been a “Crazy/Loyal” Duck fan for over 35 years. The RG has covered Duck news over that period better than anybody has the right to deserve. The RG reports more EXCELLENT/TIMELY/FUN/“HOMETOWN”/SUPPORTIVE/“PERSONAL”/ HISTORICAL DUCK COVERAGE than anyone could ever imagine! And your national, regional, and local news is all excellent as well. Plus your special news sections and inserts are also very well done and interesting! Not to mention your excellent eEdition!I now live in Minneapolis/St. Paul, but feel no need to subscribe to either the Minneapolis Star Tribune, or St. Paul Pioneer Press to get the national news. Please keep up your good work! I hope to move back to Eugene one day, so I can once more subscribe to both the paper and eEdition of your excellent newspapers!Sincerely,Troy MooneyhamA RG and Duck Fan!

RG e-edition ——. Easy edition it should be called.

The Register Guard app for reading online news is easy to read. I like how the articles, if continued onto another page are linked to the beginning so there is no scrolling to find the rest of the article. I prefer the split page so that I can easily reference what page I’m on as I read the article.

Register Guard E-edition

This is a very good e-edition paper. It is easy to read, an negotiate thru the different sections. Once I download a paper, it stays in my iPad for thirty days, so I can reference back to articles when needed. Other papers I’ve read, bombard you with ads and other unwanted items, but the RG does NOT, very important. I live in Olympia, and get better coverage of national news, and even some local stuff, from this paper in Eugene. But I’m a DUCK, so I need my Oregon Duck paper... good job guys!

Was top notch prior to sell off

The app had nearly flawless execution prior to the Baker family selling to Gannett. Gannett made some changes behind the scenes, and for a time, a virtual comedy of errors ensued. Duplicate pages, sections missing (including the entire Sumday funnies on more than one occasion), late delivery. At one point, we considered going with a different paper’s on line publication, but the price point was not to our liking. In short, it is only the price point that has kept us subscribing. Meanwhile, the errors have diminished, but are still present. Do you know, for example, you double-print the national re-hash of the headlines every day? Today, it’s section C. You’ve been doing this for weeks, if not months! Where is the proofreading these days?

RG Electronic Edition

For the most part this edition is very good. I can read it anywhere where there is wi-fi. It does have some idiosyncrasies such as smaller pages pop up once in a while, my place is lost if I leave my iPad and it shuts off. Then I have to find where I left off.I like being able to send an article by email or print one and the process is very easy. I also like being able to go to past editions and find articles perhaps dealing with an editorial from a few days ago.I don’t have a pile of paper that lays around to be recycled and I can still print out a coupon if need be. I do miss the feel of the newsprint paper but I handle that by buying the local paper twice a week. The circulation department is very helpful if I have a problem and it’s usually not my problem but an internal one that gets resolved. Once I had my subscription increased by a few days because of technical problems on your side. That was helpful, but, I thought that delivering me a paper copy would have been ideal since it happened during an important event. It may have been when the Ducks won the Rosebowl but I’m not sure.

Never got the physical paper because of piling up

But the app makes it easy to glance over the news and not have 20 tons of recycling. I am sad about the decline in overall quality of the paper since it’s sale to the big money publisher, but since I never subscribed I guess I was part of the problem. I applaud the local journalists who are hanging in there and covering the local scene despite the circumstances. From what I have heard the out GHD the grapevine they have to do a lot of their own editing too, which is tricky. So good for them! Oh and the app has been working better and better I even figured out how to read the comics!

What’s the problem?

We just switched to a digital only subscription and now nothing prints right. The NYT crossword puzzle has the right edge cut off and the clue numbers are all in the wrong location. I have enough trouble solving them without adding that! The other puzzles (Jumble, Sudoku, and the easier crossword) all print so blurry I can’t decipher them. I’d been able to print from my IPhone and iPad with the carrier delivered paper subscription (that included the digital) with no issue. Now the only device that prints well is my laptop. I’m very disappointed.

RG App review

The RG App is pretty good, and I really like just being able to open the app and having my newspaper load without having to sign in. I’d really like the app to be made available for use on my computer too, instead of always having to go through the sign in process when I’m there. Most of the time, I’m reading the RG on my ipad. But if my spouse wants to read the paper, he’s at the computer. So allowing us to both read, without one having to jump several hoops and sign ins to read when at the computer, would really be a good upgrade.

Why obscure the pages

May 2020. I really like reading the e-edition. However, it would be better if it did not have to restart? itself when I go away to read a text message and then come back to the paper. It only takes a few seconds but still. We get the NY Times and the RegisterGuard. I prefer the RG e-edition because it is laid out like a paper newspaper. There is information conveyed by where stories are located. The silly thing is that when we got the “paper paper” I usually only read the front page of each section. Now I look at each page. I wish the e-edition included the advertising sections. It seems crazy that they do not have the Jerry’s and BiMart ads.November 2021Every day the first page of the Sports section has a gray filter over it. One clicks X to make the filter go away, but why does it do this? In the USA Today version it grays over the first page of the Money section. Same cure, but why?BTW, Register Guard readers get to read USA Today M-F. Do you let USA Today readers read your Saturday and Sunday editions of your seven day a week publications? We still are not allowed to read the local advertising supplements.

The app works well

This app is pretty well designed and works smoothly. The articles could be improved by doing a better job of proofreading and not running the same articles more than once (such as running several articles in both the Saturday and Sunday issues). I still prefer the paper editions, but know they are wasteful.
