Had it since the original iPad. Still love it!

This was the first music production app I got on my original ipad like 12 years ago and I still use it from time to time today! It’s incredibly robust and filled with features and if you have a little imagination, you can figure out how to create all kinds of sounds with this thing. I imagine it would be a Helpful way to learn about modular synthesis and trackers. One of my long running all time favorite mobile music production apps and I am still amazed that it was created by a single guy (much like NanoStudio). Cubasis was created by one of the industry’s biggest players and it still feels so clunky and unusable to me…. Anyway, definitely get this, you won’t regret it!

It’s a GUI thing...

You’ll either get along with the UI of this app or you won’t. I’ve watched videos of people doing very cool things with this app, but I’m not a programmer and I don’t think like one, so this app is tough for me to understand... I did manage to make a simple 8 bar 3 track groove, but it took about an hour. 😂 Not the apps fault at all. It’s the sequencer and timeline that I struggle with. I’m sure that if I hunkered down and spent a few months with this app, I could have a good understanding of how it works, but there are many other apps that do not require such work for me. I’ll probably keep hitting this app over time until I get it, cause I do like a good puzzle. peace

SunVox is amazing!!

Yes this app won’t cost you much money, it’s free on Mac, PC, Linux and even Raspberry Pi if you really want to try before buying. I was trying to make a stand alone box running it on Raspberry Pi but then I realized it works so much better on my Phone and this was 3 years ago. It can do so much and continues to get developed to be even better year after year. Some people don’t care for Trackers well I don’t either and I don’t use it often. I has infinite possibilities for sound creation. Works flawlessly on everything from my old 2011 iPad 2 running the latest SunVox version to my new 2017 iPad Pro. I’m just resending my same review as before because the iOS review system is stupid!

Just a really great app with many uses

This is the kind of app that is almost a complete DAW but can also be used as many other things including being loaded as an effect in iOS and for sampling. It’s really incredible as a sound design tool! I use it for full tracks myself, as a daw basically, and I have them all believe me. I’ve had this app for a while too and I still get excited about it. I find the tracker to be rather fast and easy to use once you learn the shortcuts and required techniques. The manual is a little tough but the video tutorials are great.

Best!

I have tried out countless other apps for music production and this has remained my absolute favorite one for the last five years. It has the ingenious features of a tracker plus so much more. You can add effects in the tracker using std values or apply effect values live using the record button. You can even change the bpm, quantization, and pattern lengths to whatever you want. With an app like this, the sky is the limit!

FM module is rigged...

Update: the dev has responded and let me know that the FM module isn't "bugged", but that it is designed to work on a non-standard way. I had thought it was bugged. But now that I know it's by design, I'm still not happy with it. I need a normal behaving FM. However, the dev accepted my suggestions and is considering to add an "FM2" module in a future update, which would allow for some more standard FM behavior.I will update review if this update comes out... In the mean time I might be able to find an alternative way to produce FM-like sounds, using some of the other sound generators included in sunvox.

AU Update

While there are some refinements and additional functionality to be added to the AU aspects of SunVox, it’s a very welcome addition. You can use the System import option from the main menu to import projects into the AU that are on your device or in the cloud.I was able to export and import projects from another device including ones with custom samples which worked great. Being able to select a module in a project, send MIDI, and then record it works very well for building up patterns and tracks without needing to enter the tracker sequence manually. I can then copy any portion of any pattern and paste it into another pattern in another instance of SunVox AU.The AU update opens up lots of possibilities for more integration with other apps with an AU host app (DAW).There are a multitude of online tutorials for SunVox too.

LOVE IT

ok so I’m only 23 years old (born 1997) so I’m way too young to have grown up with trackers. Didn’t even know they existed till a couple days. I’ve been looking into the new polyend tracker and gained a tiny bit of knowledge on how to use them so coming into this app was really fun and easy. Really wanted to see how a tracker workflow would work for me and I kind of dig it! I personally don’t find it confusing (the basics that is) and I’ve only been fooling around for a day! Love this app and for the price it’s a steal!! Maybe I’ll never buy the polyend tracker cause it’s literally 100 x the price!!

At last

Well at last a comprehensive music synthesis system, that does not limit you to dance loops. The possibilities of the app appear to be almost endless. At first glance it s undoubtedly daunting. After just a few minutes you are producing your own music.Possibly some musical experience is a good idea but definitely not a requirement.I have searched and spent, for a long long time for an app as capable as this one is, and it's not a massive download either. No manual, well that's not new and let's face it, who reads them at first.A little guidance would be nice, but learning by using is definitely possible with this little beauty.I have all the real gear i will ever need, but I am very glad to have a truly portable studio, the size of my IPad.Stable too.Well worth the cost.

The Swiss knives of… knives, if knives were music applications

There are a very select group of audio apps that I install on every new device before any other apps. SunVox is definitely one of those apps!Tracker functionality isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but the modular wiring and multitude of modules are really the star of the show. You can create just about any type of Synth and fx combo you can think of in a very lightweight environment.I’ve been a big fan of SunVox for a long time. Many apps have come along since I first tried SunVox. Most have been relegated to being reinstalled once in a while, only to be uninstalled to clear out clutter. SunVox never leaves my devices, and it gets used very often for sound design and generative audio.
