Great design, responsive developer

EDIT: the issue has been fixed! Thank you! Love this app 🙂🙂🙂~~~I primarily bought this app for the watch widget which is very nice when it works. For $15 i got the watch and homescreen widgets. Unfortunately, the watch widget is very buggy. It frequently doesn’t show the correct sun position for my location (but does once I click through to the watch app). Furthermore the widget completely goes blank/black once my series 7 switches to the always on (dimmer) display. It’s really too bad because I like the design and info of this app a lot. I tried emailing the app developer weeks ago but they never replied.

I Use This App Every Day!!

Love this app! It’s just what I’ve been looking for! The visual graphics are prefect, and all the different specifications of sunlight and moonlight are comprehensive. I like to know sunrise and sunset, also knowing dawn and dusk now has been a pleasant enlightening for knowing how much longer you will be able to see at night, and when you will start seeing daylight in the morning. And it’s come in handy countless times for knowing how much daylight is left if I’m working in the yard or want to take the trash out before it’s totally dark. Or when will the wildlife start stirring outside at the first light of dawn- know I know the time! Get this app- if you like watching the sky, connecting with Mother Earth- you will love it!!

Great app!

I love that this app is accurate, intuitive to use, and provides as much or as little information as I want. I really appreciate how customizable it is and the ability to set alerts. I also love that it’s a one time purchase; I think we are all tired of everything becoming subscription-based and it’s refreshing to find an app that doesn’t do this. I have only one suggestion:Maybe provide a pricing bundle that combines Plus with widgets, for customers without an Apple Watch? I am happy to pay, but more options would be nice too.

Watch App is back!!!

My job requires me to know when civil twilight is every day, and this app handily tells me that. I first paid for it because I could stick it on my watch and know at a glance everything I needed to know. So I was really bummed when the developer dropped support for the watch. I could still use the main app of course, but the nerd in me really loved just looking at my wrist. I was graciously offered my money back if I wanted, but I chose not to, because I wanted to encourage the developer to keep working on this beautiful app and, as a software engineer, I know how these things go. And now I am SO HAPPY to see that not only is the watch app back, but back with a vengeance! The configurability of the widgets and complications is just stunning. The only downside is that now I’m going to be fiddling with this for weeks in order to find what arrangements are “just right” for me. Thanks so much for standing by your product and its continued improvement.

It’s ok

I don’t like that they killed the classic widget, but hey, progress. Otherwise it’s a decent assortment of solar and lunar info, and a good selection of widgets (must pay in-app purchase for plus+ or whatever the f they call it). I use in combination with an app called “Moon,” which fills in the gaps of functionality and widgets (eg. Solar/lunar elevation chart widget).Should also mention that the shiny new widgets have been a rocky road in terms of development in the first months of their release—some days the widgets don’t load properly, or just show a black square. Will update of the situation gets better, but just saying, the dev charges premium prices fo amateur execution of the app. I’d probably look elsewhere if I hadn’t sunk money into it already for plus. So, eh.

My favorite complication; exceptional developer

The best visualization of sun and moon data you’ll find on iOS (and watchOS), or anywhere else. The unique dial is such a clever, concise infographic, simple to read and dense with information. It’s glanceable, memorable, and legible even at the scale of a watch complication. The update to v7.0 is fantastic: it introduces a brand new watchOS app with extremely deep customization, as well as the longest list of complications and iOS 14 widgets I’ve seen from any app, period. Best of all, the developer is very committed to the project and extremely responsive to customer support, and just a friendly, pleasant individual to correspond with. Sundial may not be the most “mission-critical” app on your phone, but if you’re the kind of person who looks skyward — and at app reviews — then this is more than worth the price of a coffee. Enjoy! 🌞🌝

WATCH Support is Back!!!

I’ve owned this app for a few years and loved every part of it. But when the developer ceased support for the Apple Watch a while back, it wasn’t nearly as useful for me and I ended up deleting it. It was very disappointing and I found a replacement which wasn’t nearly as good, but I need a sunrise/sunset complication on my watch that is more appealing than the stock complication. Not only is this app a five-star favorite of mine, the return of WATCH support and the catalog of every complication you could think of makes this app better than ever before. Many, many thanks to the developer for bringing it back to the WATCH. And please don’t remove it ever again!

Excellent Info in a Beautiful, Clean Design

In my quest (I’m a librarian) for an app that would display daily and monthly solar and lunar phases, I did a little research and found this one was very well-rated over and over for its breadth of data, its friendly interface, and its features. Since this app kept floating to the top, I downloaded it and I have been a Basic user for a few months. I just love it, and I find myself using it often. It is deceptively simple, due to its clean design, but packed with information, which I enjoy browsing. Some practical uses:• I like to know when the full moon is coming up for viewing (and sometimes to confirm a string of bizarre behavior, although that seems to have ramped up to “daily” in 2020). • When we’re working in the yard, it’s great to see how much daylight we have left. • When we’re traveling and want to view a sunrise or a sunset, we can see the time for that, no matter where we are in the world. • I have a daily alert set for dusk, to remind me to bring in our suet and birdfeeders, before they are accosted by marauding raccoons from the woods. • The app is also a terrific learning tool, both for us, ourselves, and for us to use as we help introduce our 3-year-old granddaughter to these natural, ancient rhythms and phases. Very pleased - a great app. I plan on upgrading for more personal tinkering and preferences. Highly recommend!

A worthy substitute for Dark Sky

When Apple has purchased Dark Sky and enfolded its functions into their own Weather app, one feature that disappeared was the ability to mark the coming of the solstices and equinoxes. Sundial brings that feature back — without requiring a continuous subscription. And with an attractive, easy-to-use interface. One thing I would like to see in a paid update: an interface with Shortcuts which allows the user to trigger actions based on the position of the Sun. Turning lights on at Sunset would be one obvious implementation, but I’m sure imaginative users could think of more.
