This App has gotten much better

This App has really been streamlined and made much easier to navigate and use in the last year or so. I primarily use it with my 851N connected to an external hard drive containing about 5 terabytes of music. The user interface is intuitive and the ability to see artwork on the App makes moving around a massive music library relatively simple. The one feature I would love to see added is the ability to edit folder structures and file names on the drive from the App. Now, when I find a subfolder in the wrong spot or a song that is out of order, I need to disconnect the hard drive and reconnect it to my PC to edit the drive. I know, that’s a first-world problem, but if I don’t make a note of what needs to be fixed, I’ll forget. Thanks Cambridge Audio

Good tool

So I recently picked up a 851N music streamer. It allowed me to replace my pre amp and DAC separates with a all-included unit. The DAC section of the 851 is pretty good it’s much smoother than the DAC magic plus which it replaced. The AD DACs were a major upgrade coming from the wolfson. Switching sources is easy in the app and makes it easy to pick usb, air play or Roon which is what I primarily use. Sound quality is good on Sirius symphony hall and met opera radio using air play. The Roon ready is easy to use just select Roon ready in this app and add it as a audio end point on your Roon audio settings tab. It will display album art and track title and artist on the display which is nice. I primarily got this to replace my separates and be able to control the hifi system all from my iPad. Only giving four stars as the app interface could be improved. Really happy with the 851 will give me many years and hours of listening enjoyment. Compared to competitors products which I also looked at this was the best and most stable app at the price point. You could go to blu os but that app has terrible reviews. I’ve been a Cambridge customer since 2010 and have never had a bad product from them. This is the streamer you want to get at this price point because the integration is all managed in house for the app and the hardware. Really pleased with my purchase.

Works like a charm

I am not sure why this app gets bad reviews. Speaking from my own experience, it meets my expectations. I have been using the app to control a CXNv2 for 7 months, since 04/20. I stream WAV encoded files from a NAS, listen to Internet radio and connect with AirPlay from an iPhone. Occasionally AirPlay will glitch requiring me to restart the IOS music app, but that is the only problem I have encountered ... and it is by no means a deal breaker. This review is for app v1.4.1.

Works great for me

Had an issue with finding my favorite stations for the CXN V2. Was able to call a real person at Cambridge support who walked me through it. The app is great overall with lots of functionality and while I’m not a fan of so many steps to go in, out, and through Qobuz and Tidal menus and selections, I’m really enjoying the radio streaming much more now.

Too many issues

Really loved my CXN V2 but the StreamMagic app is ultimately the reason why I am returning it. Quboz experiences frequent audio dropouts and I have experienced the player pausing and playing on its own without any input which I suspect is doing going on behind the scenes within the StreamMagic app. Something as simple as changing apps within iOS is enough to cause the CXN to experience a dropout in playback or to pause the player all together. The CXN has a ton of potential with a proper app but this is not it.

Won't link to NAS, case abandoned in support

Seems to be able to identify all the UPnP devices fine, including the NAS, but app shows 'no content' in the NAS, where there is over 1tb of music. Other devices can see and interact with it. After twoweeks of troubleshooting with support, the case was allegedly handed off to the specialists whose only engagement was to ask me to let them know if any further assistance was needed. Then the auto ticket closer popped up a few days later. Knowing Cambridge must hire smart, competent people, the takeaway is the support team is overwhelmed by buggy software and under resourced when it comes to actually getting customers to a place where their equipment to work as advertised. This probably causes lower than necessary reviews, and drives higher than necessary product returns.

Great App

I really don’t have any complaints about the app. It works as expected. If there is one critique I have, it would be that the scrubber is not very responsive when trying to use it. There are other music apps that I can toggle the scrubber back and forth with ease. I know that may be nitpicking but that’s the best I have . Thank you Cambridge Audio for providing an excellent listening experience!

Finally sees all my NAS music!

As of this latest version, I am now able to fully browse my library from within the app! Before, all I could see were the folders, without the individual tracks, but adding the album to the queue would still play the music. The layout on tablet is now much easier on the eyes, making better use of landscape view real estate.Queueing to my CXN V2 is as quick as ever.

Works well, could use a few enhancements to be perfect app

App works seamlessly with CXN V2 and can browse through my SSD FLAC and DSD music collection fairly fast. Could use a few tweaks to make it perfect. Wish list: 1. Volume dial doesn’t show relative position in app despite being connected to CXA81 via control bus. 2. No way to play all of music collection with a push of a button via app 3. No ability to create a favorites list 4. No ability to create playlists These added features would make the system more amazing than it is already

User experience can be challenging.

Adding a single song to the queue is more miss than hit. It usually just plays the song instead of adding it to the queue. Essentially I cannot use it. Qobuz (also Tidal, I use Qobuz) does have a better experience and rather Cambridge having to do so much work on their solution, a suggestion:Qobuz can be the drivers for selecting and managing queues. They essentially are designed for that purpose. Your app in the background connects then to the network player for HiRes playback. (Basically a vampire tap pulling the info from Qobuz)Win - Win - Win. You save on resources and the Qobuz / Tidal do the heavy lifting on interface (which we pay for dearly, their win) and happy customers. Pretty sure you have a backlog of features you then could work on. (No, I will not use Apple airplay, low quality, sorry. Maybe if Apple would solve it. Then you also have a headache less I guess.)Cheers. My scoring:3 stars as it technically works4 stars if the experience and the user interface would be up to date 5 stars if it would have all functions of Qobuz, or better yet, I can use Qobuz and don’t have to deal with any other interface.
