Spades so horrible
The reason it’s called spades is because the trump cards are spades and because you can’t follow suit doesn’t necessarily means you must use your trump cards; however, this game will not allow you to throw out another suit unless you used up your spades. I think all these developers need to read about spades again and go back to the drawing board. So far I downloaded five spades games and none of them are worth play what a waste of technology. As long as you are not allow to renege a couple books it should be straight forward until you play the advanced game whereas the sandbags come into play. Help me please to some Normacy!
Fun- overall good app; partner not great
I like this app for spades. Found it because it has the same developers as the Euchre app I like most. Good graphics, many customizable game and speed options. Only complaint: my AI partner kind of stinks. Calling Nil when having the high joker? Also, I don't think the AI understands the bags. After we've made our bid, instead of throwing off and under when possible, my partner still wins tricks (when not necessary) and bags add up QUICKLY. Other than some tweaking to the AI in the future (hopefully), great app.I do wish there was a way to look at a score sheet of past hands.
Simply awesome
Let me start by saying every spades game has terrible AI for a partner this one including. The partner here is just as terrible as all the other spades game that I’ve tried. however the reason why I gave this game five stars is for the simple fact it allows you to play cutthroat and you do not have to rely on the moron AI partner.I ramp up the difficulty to the max settings, uncheck the teams box, and I’ve been having the time of my life. I have logged so many hours on this game I’ve lost track. In cutthroat solo mode, best spades game EVER!
I just had the most incredible game!
After having discovered even more configurability, I configured Spades Gold 'exactly' the way we played Spades in the 1/2 hour opposite lunch in High School. Study Hall and Home Room and names like that. Jack and I just played and amazing game. We really "Played as a team"! The way we led each other and covered for each other. With the big configurability, it kind of let me go back in time and remember some great games we had back then...we'd get told to 'tone it down', we got so into it! And THANK YOU for the 'one touch' play card mechanics. Oh, we (Spades Gold we) got some rounds flying fast too. It was fun. I've tried at least a dozen solo play Spades games and they rated from bad to 'really'? Seriously? You didn't just give me what I wanted, you game me 'exactly' what I wanted. And there's no cigarette smoke, nor spilled drinks or obnoxious personalities. lol Is Spades Gold perfect? I don't know. It's way too configurable to waste my time testing them all. This is my new go-to kill to kill a minute (or 10 or 30 minutes lol). Oh and I like the ease of continuing games, even when you forget to!
Love the ability to establish the set of rules
Too many of the spades apps have big bonuses for precise bidding while people throw away trick after trick. Being successful at losing tricks is hardly a skill, and when you aren’t trying to compete for each trick, you take away what always made spades fun. Of course there needs to be a penalty for underbids and Spades Gold has that option. Shortcomings are always AI employed, but I’ve certainly played with real people that are equally challenged.
Was good but
This was a good game until recently when frequent and tiresome commercials were added. Now I only will play this in airplane mode on my iPad which blocks the ads.The game play itself is good. Your robot partner will protect you well when you bid nil albeit the deal is sometimes rigged and your partner is dealt a singleton low card which kills your nil bid.Robotic card play is good but heaven forbid your partner will only draw trumps when spades is all he has. You sit there in a vicious cross-trump unable to get in while you partner does nothing to prevent you from losing your bid. Not to mention he will trump in with his highest spade even if he is last to play sometimes.The creators of this game never heard of the basics rule in card play of second plays low and third plays high. Obviously the designer of the game is very good in design because this game is quick and uncomplicated but the designer is not a card player.
Great game...failing site
First, I have really enjoyed playing this game...but lately the screen freezes right in the middle of a game...seems like always when I am winning! The screen goes black and it returns to a new starting screen...so last game lost! This has occurred very frequently as of late. Also, please explain how when I bid and lose my bid my points go down, however, the guy opposite me doesn’t make his bid and he keeps going up in points....inconsistent? Hummmm
Fun and entertainment
I really enjoy playing this game! Never bored and you can up or down the skill levels of players. I like the challenge so I play legendary (10 stars skills). You can added the names to the players. Which I like because I used my old navy crews I used to play with in the navy! You can customize the rules. You can sandbagging, play blinds (nil, moon, double nil) just to name the few. It’s really a great game to play if you like spades! You won’t regret getting this app.
Disappointing
It’s blatantly obvious when the game sets you up for a loss. Your partner bids against himself with Nil when he holds the Ace or wins a bag when he could have allowed the bag to be picked up by the opponents. It’s designed at times to make you lose. The only saving grace is the different games that are available to play (suicide, whiz, normal, blind, and mirror). Those feature games keep you coming back to endure the frustration. I just wish the AI was fair and not designed to intentionally allow you to know that it’s cheating. FIX IT and I’d be willing to PAY FOR THIS GAME!!!!! You guys are loosing money because you don’t realize the genius behind the new game versions you’ve created for spades lover players!!!!!
Absolutely terrible AI!!!
All Spades apps that I have played have terrible AI. My assumption is that the people who create these apps have no clue how the game is played or they are just sadistic and love torturing people who enjoy playing Spades. The AI takes bags in almost every hand with many of them being unnecessary. If I use the Ace of Spades to win the last trick in our bid, I would assume your partner would throw their highest spade out because we don't need to win anymore tricks. Not this app or any other one I have tried. My partner will throw a three of Spades only to bust out the King of Spades on the last hand. The coding or strategy behind that? I can't explain it. Another good one is when your partner goes nil with the King and Queen of Spades. You can't possibly make that work but they do it anyway. I could go on with more examples but this review is too long already. This rant is not all centered on this app but this is the last one I am trying on my phone. The Spades apps are just more frustrating than fun for me at this point. Maybe one day in a galaxy far far away there will be a developer who can create a Spades app with decently smart AI, but I am not holding my breath.
