User Reviews for Poison-202 Vintage Synthesizer

A seriously ‘sick’ synthesizer

You can create real audio pandemonium with Poison-202 (Apple, again, does what they do best...lose app reviews and fail to put them, like they USED to do, in chronological order.)Only thing that’s done poorly is the note hold feature. It fails to highlight the held keys. For the life of me I fail to understand why a decent note hold feature is so hard for many developers to make.Everything else is well designed and has some awesome presets and well matched components to create some insane sounds!

Amazing, from vintage to most modern.

Amazing, from vintage to most modern. This synth sounds great. It is going to be top of the list for apps I use at live shows.Very easy to program. This thing checks all the boxes.Great sound design, a great deal of time must have gone into programming all those instantly recognizable patches. I'm in a classic dance rock cover band and these patches gave me some great ideas for songs to add to our set list.If your into programming your own sounds and have experience with analog synthsyou will be right at home with the controls. The multi-effects and arpeggiator really round out this great new synth app.Well worth the money. You will not be disappointed, I sure wasn't.Can't wait for your next synth or cool updates you might come up with for the 202.

Fantastic!

I held off on getting this synth because I heard that it was just aimed at the EDM crowd. I'm sure it's very useful for EDM but I'm a blues based rock guitarist. I bought it just to try something different. I'm sorry I waited. This is an amazing synthesizer that is useful across the board. Blues, rock, jazz, all kinds of electronica... it'll work great. I can't imagine where the synth could not fit in. Got a 120 piece orchestra and you need a little synthesizer mixed in? This will do it!The best part about it is that it's pretty straightforward. It's like having a synthesizer with all the knobs presented before you with no digital menus to dive into. Start tweaking sounds and have fun. That's it. I didn't even have to download a manual. If you never used the synthesizer in your life then this is a good starting point. Just start turning the knobs to see what they do and you'll learn pretty much everything you need to know about how synthesizers work because it's all here. Once you've learned it there are more complex "advanced classes" elsewhere on the App Store.

Scarred veteran

I’ve spent a bunch of $ on music apps. I’d rate this synth in my top 5% in music apps, and probably my top 2% in synths. This, Animoog and Moog Model 15 are all iPad must-haves. Great useful presets. I feel like instead of a bunch of random ‘here’s what you can do’ presets, they are a lot of really good starting points for things that you need. Kudos for including presets from some well known internet music personalities. I’ve spent hours exploring and creating. Stable and functional with daws as well.

Saved me a lot of money!

I always come back to using this as my main synthesizer on stage. The simplicity and durability of the iPad combined with the great sounds and flexibility have made poison a true go-to for my synth needs. This app has scratched my itch for new gear many times as i often look for gear that does what I am already doing with this. I guess happiness is wanting what you have. Thank you!

Like it, but would love if it had recording capabilities

The sound sets are awesome, I’ve already created some custom ones from the presets and this app does not disappoint, I was initially worried about the price, but it turned out to be well worth it. The only thing I feel is left is to add a recording feature, which also allows exports (multi track recorder would be preferable). Once again this app is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who is new to synths and wants to create some cool music. Thank you!

Get this!! Now!!

Visually inspiring, very easy to use. This is not just yet another iOS synth. It's one of those synths you will keep coming back to over and over. Everything about this synth has been well thought about making it very easy to navigate an produce really great sounds, and being now an Audio Unit makes it very flexible for creating music in your favorite daw. One critique which would make this perfect. add a Noise Waveform as aposed to just a noise effect. Probably even including a 3rd Osc would make this synth complete, Otherwise a great synth that one should have in their music arsenal.

I'm an old guy... I played synths in the 80's and...

Dimitrij Pavlov is envied. He is also on top of the game here.... and right from the gate... Where has he been? This app is like combing a Prophet 5, SH-101, OBx-a and a Rhodes Chroma... Yes the Chroma! It does exactly what I be been looking for since I've started on iOS... That bass scraping alien spine crushing sound. I've owned just about all analog synthesizers, including the CS80, and this one is easily placed in my top 5 apps. If you don't buy, you will find your future boring and useless.

Great sounds, easy to tweak

I didn't think I needed yet another subtractive synth, but this one won me over. Lots of great presets, and the ability to run them as embedded Audio Units are worth the price of admission alone. What appears to be a simple subtractive synth interface hides a lot of power under the hood. A lot of variety and unique sounds are possible, with twin oscillators, twin filters (each with their own dedicated envelopes) that can run in parallel or in sequence, and twin amplifier envelopes. Throw in dual LFOs and nice-sounding onboard effects, easy MIDI setup, and, well you get the idea. Put this on your short list.

Great synth but design flaws

This synth is a great little package. It has very analog sounding filters that perform excellently. However, the “old school” UI has a few flaws, number one being unison. The synth engine is capable of unison, but there is only one oscillator mode that allows you to use it. For EDM, unison is essential and I strongly believe each oscillator should have fully controllable unison with voice number, mix, and detune. Another mild inconvenience is the lack of a controllable noise oscillator. While the synth has noise there is no envelope or filter. Overall, this little synth has amazing bones, great sound, and a solid start.
