Nice Idea to Build Upon

When most people go to sites such as this it’s because they have a question that they want answered... I found it informative and well organized, and in terms I as a novice were comfortable with. I recommend... but my 11 year old recommended first. I like that it’s age and user friendly. They do make great suggestions and I was left wishing I had begun stocking my tank differently according their compatibility notes from the beginning. I would like to see an option where one could build the tank they have as a base or template and then have compatibility matches linked within the pages. I think it’s an idea that would make your app more useful.

Needs more but pretty cool

I’m rating this app with 3 starts because like the last person said, it’s missing a lot. There are so many fish out there that aren’t on this app, it would be nice if it was more detailed. I would definitely want kuhli and weather loaches in my tank but they don’t have them as an option, which really disappointed me. They’re the greatest fish in the world and you would be doing a disservice to everybody by not adding them. Another thing I would consider adding to a tank is an African Dwarf Frog which isn’t in the app either. I think there should be a section for substrate and maybe decor too. Maybe a preview of the tank that you could play around with after you pick all your fish and other stuff so the user knows what the tank should maybe look like when it’s set up. Just my opinion. Good idea and concept though.

Small list of fish

Not many fish to choose from many common fish from store not on the list and gallons required seems off to me I added 8 snails and it used gallons required by 8 gallons seems silly since they scavenge and clean if anything it should lower gallons required there are no sucker fish to choose from at least not the common ones sold in stores and you have to buy an expansion to add plants send silly great idea just seems like there need to be more math involved. I added 10 tetras 3 angle fish and 8 snails said I needed 40 gallons min that's funny because I have all those plus two frogs not on list and two sucker fish not on list and one female sword tail if I could add those in guess it would say near 50 gallons needed but I have had all those in a 10 gallon tank for 6 months and everyone is thriving seems off to me great idea if you only plan on 3 or 4 fish it would b great it says angles and tetras shouldn't be together but the co exist great and many charts and people at the fish store say they play well together

Bad information

I have been taking care of fish for a long time. I have 6 tanks of various sizes. I downloaded this to check what I’m doing against what they provided on this app. This is full of bad information. For example…this app says a Jack Dempsey only requires 20 gallons. Jack Dempsey’s get quite large. They need a minimum of 56 gallons for one fish. It also said I can store 2 goldfish in a 10 gallon. Goldfish can get up to 12 inches, sometimes a little bigger. You need a bare minimum of 30 gallons for 1 goldfish., and even that is a bit small. This is only 2 of the several issues I have with the information on this app. If you care about your fish, then don’t listen to this app. If you don’t care about your fish, then don’t get any. Fish care is a delicate process that should be heavily researched.

No Aquarium or Aqua-Scape designer should be without

I have four aquariums that started as artistic Aquascapes that turned into planted Aquariums. From works of art to growing lots of Lucky Bamboo with rocks, driftwood and grass all over glow in the dark substrate.I started selling some of my Lucky Bamboo and made gifts out of them as well. I use all kinds of Aquarium safe crystal’s, many which are blacklight reactive. I was hesitant to add any fish because when I was young my attempts ended in disaster for the fish. But I love Male Betta Fish and have a new interest in fish that glow. I didn’t know where to begin until I found this website and guide. It gave me the confidence to add fish to each of my four planted aquariums. Lots of great information and beautiful pictures of the fish. Most importantly for me is the information about PH and Temperature because I have to match the right fish to the ideal conditions of my plants. Highly recommend!

Adequate but not perfect

This app works and helps a new aquarium hobbies to out by preventing you from choosing to put non compatible species in the same tank, hopefully newbies will know this means they aren't supposed to. However, it could be improved a lot and have more functions (like a search bar), or have more animals such as a turtle/ crayfish/ frogs/ the kind of animals that go into tanks with fish. It's because of this apps lack of breadth that I'm giving them only 3 stars. Hopefully they improve from being a "list" only about fish to the realization that aquarium hobbyists have many other things in their tank with the fish. It would also be nice if it took into account filtration and water changes though because someone who doesn't plan to clean wouldn't want a full tank and someone who plans to do so excessively can have a higher bioload.Other than this, the app is nice for planning a tank.

Did not meet expectations

I stumbled across this app and based on the description and pictures in the App Store, it sounded awesome. I downloaded it and began to “set up” my tank in the app and add my fish. I tried to add an African cichlid, but found out you need to pay $2.99 to access any type of African cichlid. That was disappointing because it said nothing about an in app purchase in the description… SoI thought I’d go look up some of my other fish in the glossary. They have a basic list of common freshwater fish, but then an in app purchase to view any uncommon freshwater fish, any African cichlids, saltwater fish. You need an in app purchase to view plants at all. The care and maintenance tab is a list of diseases that from my perspective would be very uncommon. It doesn’t cover any of the basic diseases or other problems you’d run into. And it doesn’t say anything about tank maintenance. Overall, I’m pretty disappointed with the app. Even if I were to purchase the upgrade, half of my freshwater fish aren’t even listed.

Great app. Needs more fish.

I love this app. It’s very helpful and useful for devoted aquarists. I do though have a request for a fish: Koi. I have 2 koi fish and know a decent amount on how to take care of them but having the info just a few taps away. I would really love to have that fish’s information. I would be happy to give 5 stars if that was added. I would also request adding a couple of each categories mostly just because I want to read them. It would probably also make people want to purchase it even more because they have that amazing information.

App keeps you in check

I like this app because it keeps you in check with what fish are compatible and how many you should have per gallons. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it gives you full grown size fishes. Example freshwater Angelfish, it says they require 5gallons which is true for a full mature one. But a dime to quarter size(which is what most people buy and takes a few years to get to full mature). Those would only require 2-3 gallons depending on the current size(1in of fish per gallon of water). If they would change it to multiple selections on size of fish, I think would make this app that much better(dime, quarter, juvenile, pre-breeder, mature)

Needs work

It needs to take into account that some fish, even if they're small, don't do well in small tanks. In the app, I put a molly in a 10 gallon tank and it said it should take up 2 gallons. So at least one molly + other small fish + shrimp perhaps should do nicely in a 10g? Mmm, no. In my experience, that works horribly. I had a molly, 2 platies, and a shrimp in a 10 gallon and after the initial excitement of new fish wore off, I realized that I knew deep down they weren't happy in this setup. I returned the molly to the store and got two more platies to add in her place. The four now seem to be happy as clams, and healthy too. The whole tank used to be riddled with health problems while I had the molly in there. Imagine if I'd initially added mollies to my tank according to the app's suggested ratio of 1 fish:2 gallons...The app really needs to look at the specific needs of each fish more in depth. Some produce more waste than others. I think the app would do good to change the minimum tank size for one fish of a species to the min. tank size for the least # of fish in a school required for them to be happy. (Mollies really shouldn't be kept on their own without others of their kind, and given they're livebearers... Yikes! You're definitely gonna need more than 10 gallons.)
