Could be fun.

Loading is a bit slow. It’s a new game and I’m sure “bugs” will be eliminated along the way. I like that there’s a left/right hand choice for puzzles. The puzzles are a nice twist for earring points. Will revisit the rating in the future for an update. After playing a few days, I still think the game is cute but it moves way too slowly. Not everyone can afford to make in game purchases, hence it takes forever to squeeze clues out of the game.Update: the game is okay but it takes way too long to build points to get clues unless one sends ends amounts of money to make in game purchases. Not everyone can afford that. Once one gains clue points, have to use 3 of them to get a sentence that’s not even a clue is frustrating. Thinking you can frustrate a player into making an in game purchase will not work with all players. Many of us will just delete the game.

Do You Like Watching Ads?

I really thought I could plow through at least the first case. I love the show, thought the premise was cute, and can get into word games. You earn about 60 “teapots” an hour—it takes 10 pots to play a word game that gets you one badge. So 6 word games an hour. To progress the story by performing an action, you need to normally use 2 badges. Each action is about a half a percentage of the story (let’s say 150 badges=90 hours AFK but checking back every hour because it doesn’t bank more than 60 at a time with no ad watching or money spent to get through AN episode). So, I thought, ok, slow going, but maybe it’ll just take a while if I don’t want to pay to play. Then came the ads when you have enough teapots, but if you exit out of the ads you lose those “teapots” you spent on a word game you never saw. It crashes? Happens often. Lose your teapots. Even watching the ads, I suspect you’re going to spend triple the amount of time ad-watching than game-playing. Stopped at 78%. Couldn’t do it any more.

Engaging But Can’t Get Red Notification toGo Away

The game itself is lovely. It is true to the story line and falls in with all the past trivia of the show without overlapping or contradicting any facts! It’s fun although slow but keeps one interested a bit longer solely because it’s not accomplished and bested in a day. My only issue is I’ve gone through every tab and clicked every setting and character, every map and icon and I cannot get the red notification on the Home Screen icon to go away. This may not seem like a big deal to most but I depend on those red notifications to be accurate on my regular everyday use icons so I don’t miss emails or work information so constantly having that popping out at me is really frustrating. If anyone knows a fix or what I’ve missed I’d be forever grateful. Otherwise I may delete the game because I cannot handle not being able to get rid of the red dot.

Glitchy, flawed, but worth it

This is a fun game that keeps the same sort of tongue-in-cheek humor Midsomer Murders is known for. However, the game itself is glitchy - it doesn’t load for me half the time, and it freezes a lot. The worst thing by far is what you need to use “energy” for - instead of having regular cut scenes to start/end the day, you have to solve puzzles and spend the in-game energy to go to work, go to bed, talk to your boss, etc. To me, this should all be available without in-game energy use - the only things that should require puzzle solving is actual casework (searching crime scenes, gathering evidence, interrogations etc). It’s so blatant that they want you to spend money for more energy, but if you’re like me you’ll be content with playing for 5-10 minutes at a time and simply waiting until your energy is refilled (50 mins for complete refill).

Good Game

I'm enjoying this game. I have a few complaints but they're minor. I do wish some of the puzzles weren't so easy (only 3 words to come up with for 10 energy?) I also wish when you go up a level that your energy would be refilled (5 gold for going up seems excessively cheap), however the energy does fill up fairly quickly which means I can play throughout the day. I find the mysteries entertaining and the graphics and language are good. All in all a good game I'm enjoying playing.Update: I'm deducting 1 star because when you finish a case you're given 30 minutes of free play time which is awesome except you have to watch a 30 ad between each board which really cuts into that 30 minute freebie. I don't find this happening during regular board play that you use energy for. I frequently will go to the app store to look at games that put up ads but I'm not going to take the time to do this during a timed event so what's the point? I can only assume it's pettiness on the part of the developers.

Extremely slow and crashes

The game itself is fun when it lets me play. The word games played to earn points is basic. There are enough challenges to help keep my brain engaged. The murder story reminds me of another game with the same overall concept including the same irrational points such as using a point to get one sentence of information or to “record” what we just spent points to learn..so double charged for the same information. Now to the real problem. It can take several minutes to open the game. It can take several minutes to change screens within the game. And it frequently kicks me out of the game with “sorry - lost internet connection”. The good thing is that it saves my game when it does that but that charges me points to access it…back to double charging for the same thing.I done with this game. I gave it a second chance and it worked fine for half a day and then right back to constant crashes. It keeps charging me energy points to get back into a game that it kicked me out of. And now appears to have charged me for something without confirming the purchase. And given the constant problems, I would never purchase anything for this game.Sorry, you had two chances and there is not a third one coming.

First impressions

Update: I have just deducted a star for deceptive practices. I have been playing several days now and am about to delete. The ads are now intrusive and several of them are guaranteed to freeze or crash my iPad. One of these I encounter regularly on another app and it does not happen there. However when it happens and I go back into the game I have to give up another 10 teapots to resume the puzzle I had already been working on. However the last straw is deceptive practices. There is a button to watch ads for rewards. It says FREE. It also appears when you run out of the teapots. It appears that there are 16 FREE opportunities over 3 days. HOWEVER after you do 6 you have to PAY to get any more. PAY DOES NOT EQUAL FREE. I wouldn’t have a problem if you gave a certain amount free (after watching ads) then offered a separate option to buy more. But to label them as FREE is dishonest. It was fun but I will not support this developer even at the free level. (Original rating) Very slow to start and load. So far ads are not obtrusive but puzzles are very simple and you need to solve a puzzle for each sentence. Not sure if I will keep. Pros: beautiful graphics Con: slow slow slow with occasional freezes requiring restarts.

Not worth the time

Added: the word game is frustratingly inconsistent in what it considers words. Mom is not a word, but dad is. Has is not a word, nor is box. Used is a word but sued is not. Sometimes plurals are not recognized and sometimes they are part of the puzzle solution. The game is slow and repetitive. It loads more slowly than any other game I have played - some with much more detailed graphics and game play. I could take a short nap between opening the game and reaching the first action. You spend badges questioning suspects then must go to the pin board to “review” (i.e. repeat) the exact same information using more badges. I am only part way through the first case and it has frozen attempting to load the office scene multiple times. Probably won’t bother to continue since the answer has been pretty obvious for several steps…

Crash city

I just downloaded this game last night and it has already crashed at least four times. I have shut the app down several times and I’ve done a shut down on my iPad, but the app still crashes. The screens are super slow to load, so playing a game takes twice as long as it should while you wait, and wait, and wait. Then you you’re not sure if it’s slow or this is a crash. And eventually you realize it’s not being slow to load, it’s crashed again. And if that wasn’t annoying enough, the game deducts points when you’re about to play a crossword puzzle or get a clue, but if it crashes after your points were deducted, that’s too darn bad! I’m going to give the game just a couple more days (maybe there’s going to be an update really soon?), and if it’s still just as bad at loading and keeps crashing I’ll delete it. I realize I didn’t pay for it, but come on, I didn’t pay for any of my apps and the rest don’t crash like this. And in the best possible scenario, all that crashing means it’s bad coding, you can extrapolate the rest.

Quite fun! Worth the ads. Update: finished so far

Overall, this is a great game. Love the storyline aspect and all the tiny details are awesome. At first, the characters voices are like the computer ones so I was surprised, but then you get used to it. If you want to speed up the scene playing, you can tap so it goes faster. At first I had no ads, now I have it often. But it doesn’t bother me as much for some reason. The word puzzles are much better than other similar games. (Besides I use a website that tells you all the possible word combos when it gets too hard lol) And if you need more teapots to play the word puzzles, you have plenty of opportunities. Every 2 days, you can watch ads to get more helpful things like teapots and hints. While playing the word puzzle, you can click to watch an add to spin for a hint, coins, teapots. You can use your coins for teapots. And every time you finish a game, you get 30 mins of unlimited teapots. Overall, the pros of the game are worth the cons! I’m on the 5th out of the 6th case, and am enjoying it! Update: I finished the 6th case, which means I’m caught up with the game. Lowkey sad I don’t get to see the stalker situation figured out… Wonder how long it’ll take to get an update on that.
