Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

I wanted to give a small, young indie team a shot, but I ended up disappointed. The app tries really hard to be a new Weatherline (RIP), but it does it poorly:It’s more chaotic and less readable. It doesn’t offer any customization which results in scrolling and scrolling and scrolling - a poor use of screen space. It’s got a very in your face design, which is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea (I’m not a fan), so the lack of themes or any adjustability hurts Mercury a lot. Also, the price. It costs just slightly less than Carrot, but it doesn’t offer any additional data sources. If you’re relying only on WeatherKit, you should price your product accordingly. But really, you should just offer more providers. It definitely takes guts to take on the already good stock weather app and phenomenal Carrot. I respect that. Having said that, I don’t think Mercury will be successful. It’s just too far behind and I don’t think it will ever be able to catch up.As a huge fan of Shark Tank and an *anonymous* AppStore reviewer I can’t help myself: you should take this app behind a barn, shoot it and then burn it. I can see you’re talented devs, but I doubt this weather app is the best use of your talent.

Beautiful and under rated

I’m not sure how this app snuck under everyone’s notice. It is beautiful and just appeared out of no where with everything I want. Shouldn’t everyone be talking about it?I gave it a few days using the free version and it basically had everything I need. I decided to subscribe for a year with the IAP just in hope it keeps this dev afloat.

Potential

Update: The main reason I subscribed to this app was because it used open weather as it’s data source which was more accurate than the stock apple weather app. The app has been updated to use apple weather so it has the same temperature and forecast as the stock weather app which is inaccurate. I would love to have the option to pick which service the app uses.

Finally a replacement for Weather Line!

Weather Line was my favorite weather app by a country mile, for years. It eventually disappeared when the dev sold the IP. I’ve been through every other alternative weather app since then, looking for a substitute, and they all had things that I found annoying. This week, I found Mercury Weather, which is checking all of my boxes! Good widgets with CLEAN design, and good data. An app that gives me what I need and want, without piling on tons of nerdery that I don’t need (I have other apps for when I need to get nerdy with weather). This app is a tight, concise, and pleasant to view, app. I really hope it stays this way!

Potential

Love the line design for reading weather, super quick and easy way to get a feel for the upcoming conditions. For a new app there’s lots of potential - though definitely a few things that hopefully will be added soon: radar, humidity widget for the Lock Screen being two. The only bug I’ve found so far is the current temp for the Apple Watch widget showing in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit.

New user…bought lifetime out of delight and hope

This app is just so much nicer to look at than Apple weather! I miss dark sky and don’t need ALL their details, but I would love to see a radar map (and really needy - I’d REALLY love it to have the little cones that show the direction storms are heading and estimate time with the lines…) as someone who spends a lot of time outside for work it’s great to look at a map and say “well, looks like we have at least 20 minutes till this clears. Let’s go kill some time” or “looks like this is a whole line of pop up storms, let’s call it for today”On a similar note when I’m planning things I’ll say “weather looks good Wednesday” and most people say “oh? My app says rain” yes the little icon shows rain, and it will rain…at 10:30pm. Being able to get that view further out is super helpful. All in all, for now I’ll take the every day comfort of this app and look at Apple weather when I need future details or radar. I’ll just keep crossing my fingers and hoping for a little bit more down the road 🤞🤞

Replaced Apple’s Weather app!

I deleted Apple’s Weather app and exclusively use Mercury. The way the weather is presented makes it super easy to know the forecast at a glance. And with the awesome widgets on my Lock Screen and my Home Screen, I’m always a glance away from all the weather details I need. If you’re considering Mercury, you should totally go for it! It’s beautifully designed and maintained, and you’ll love the experience!

Useful and promising!

The simple and elegant presentation is already good! I’d love to see a slightly more information-dense UI on Apple Watch, especially with the complications, because the screen sizes have been getting larger since Series 4. It’s great to be able to see the next few hours of weather at a glance, and it would be even better to have options for current/high/low temperatures, time of sunset, etc. :)

Looks great; kinda buggy

I like the design and limited features. The weather items in the app are mostly what I use in my other weather app. Overall opinion: lots of attention to detail in the design; less in the functioning of the app. I'm using v1.1.4.Main issues: It's slow to update weather in the app and in widgets/complications. App doesn't use background app refresh (not showing in my list). App is now forgetting that I have a subscription and switched all my widgets to demo mode; had to open the app settings to verify subscription; then widgets switched back. Watch app's name appears as a variable/key instead of app name in the complications lists (never seen that before). I had to reinstall the watch app for the complications to work. Also, my subscription shows as "Clear" instead of "Mercury"; who is Clear? I'd totally use this app if the polish applied to the design was applied to how it functions.

Needs work

I bought this on John Gruber’s recommendation and because I, like many others, miss the dearly departed Weather Line app. This one is ok but still very much a work in progress. The main thing I bought this for was to get a widget on my home screen with a graph showing the weather for the next few days. The widget on this app is clunky, only updates once in a long while, and is frequently blank, showing no temperatures or dates. It’s not cutting it.The app itself is…fine. But I expected more.
