Grid lines do not show up since upgrade to iOS 10.
Works well and the price is sweet. Would like to have control over Lat-Lon units, since most people don't expect you to give them seconds. Minutes with decimal fractions would be nice as well as just Degrees with decimal fractions. Thanks for a nice Ham Radio tool!
I am an old timer who is new to six meters. This application is exactly what I have needed. No one takes the time to give out QTHs - just grid square. I use a beam and want to max out their signal with the rotor. That is best done by knowing where they are located due to fast fading. Problem solved! Clean & well thought out program because it shows you threir approx. QTH on a map. CQ six EM12 AF5U K
There's not a lot to say here, this just does what it's supposed to. You can use it to get your current grid square, with precision all the way out to eight characters, or it will convert from latitude and longitude to grid square and vice versa. An added bonus is that it will let you zoom all the way into a map and see the actual location. I tried this with my own a character grade square and sure and off the pain was right on top of my house. Nicely done!
Great app. Looks good... works well. No issues. I only wish it went to 10 characters.
This application does what it says it will do and does so in a very nice presentation.N5WD brings up some concerns that I would like to address:1. More accuracy than needed for QSO reports (true). I find it easy to just read off the first 4 characters and like to have the added accuracy (8 characters), I consider this a feature.2. Does not present the center of a grid on conversion to Lon/Lat (true). This might be a good enhancement for future releases, however it makes the precision of the conversion less accurate. The more characters available in the maidenhead designator will bring the converted Lon/Lat closer to the true position and will put the "pin drop" on Google Maps application at that location. The Google Maps integration is a really nice add on to show you where the maidenhead location is on a map. This is primarily a conversion app, this really only becomes obvious when switching to Google Maps and if a bearing and distance function were available.3. Google Map Integration:a. No grid lines on map (true). This is not a feature of the Google Maps application. Maidenhead Converter passes a Lon/Lat to Google Maps and requests a pin drop at that location. I don't know if the Google Maps on the iPhone allows passing a KML file, if it does maybe this could be added in a future release.b. "Dead end" when going to Google Maps (true). This is how moving from program to program works, when you go to Google Maps you are changing programs. Google Maps is not part of Maidenhead Converter and has no knowledge on how to "return" to the calling application. It would be a nice feature for Google Maps to include in their API (KML?). You just have to back out of Google Maps and touch the Maidenhead Converter icon to get back.c. Driving and walking directions (including traffic) is in Google Maps rather than "Bearing and Distance" (true). When you move to Google Maps, "bearing and distance" is not a feature of that application. Replicating all of the mapping functions of Google Maps inside of Maidenhead Converter would be a pretty big task and far beyond the scope of a $0.99 utility for an extremely small audience. A better API to Google Maps might make some of this possible but I would not expect Maidenhead Converter to provide this functionality without support in Google Maps.4. Lack of antenna pointing instructions (true). "Bearing and Distance" would be a nice addition to the program and could be done inside of Maidenhead Converter. Let's hope it gets added in the future.Part of the elegance of this application, beyond a very pleasing presentation, are the context sensitive keyboards for inputting maidenhead or Lon/Lat. I am partially blind and have large thumbs, the standard application keyboard can be a challenge at times. I find these keyboards very useful.
This app performs the tasks the author claims, and performs them well. Honesty in advertising is a good thing.
Beautiful presentation of Maidenhead location. Very nice custom entry keypads. The pin-drop marking a location in the Maps app is very nicely executed. Overall, an elegant presentation of complex behind-the-scenes calculations. Well done, Donald.
Great straight, forward app. Easy to use.
If it's good enough for them, then it's good enough for you and your DXpedition... :)
Maidenhead Converter is a simple tool that translates between latitude and longitude coordinates and Maidenhead Grid Locator System coordinates. If you're an amateur radio operator who communicates locations in the Maidenhead Locator System, or just someone who wants a shorthand way of expressing latitude and longitude, this tool will be useful to you. - Track your current location in both latitude and longitude coordinates as well as Maidenhead Locator System coordinates at the same time - Enter a latitude and longitude coordinate to see its Maidenhead Locator System equivalent, or vice versa - View locations and a Maidenhead grid on a built-in map
