Recent changes harmed accessibility for the blind

I bought this particular instant pot because it was Wi-Fi enabled, and had an app that I could use to control the device. I am blind and use voiceover on my iPhone to control the pot. I am unable to use the touchscreen at all. The app worked perfectly with voiceover before the most recent update, which I think happened about a week ago. Now, I am unable to alter the temperature or the length of time the food is cooking after I have set the instant pot. For example, I might start the sauté function at 30 minutes on low, but then need to increase to a high temperature and add a little time. As things stand, I would have to end the current program, and start all over again, in order to alter the temperature or time. It is particularly important to be able to alter the temperature while sautéing. I spent an off a lot of money for a device that would make cooking easy for me. Very disappointing.

Lacking Basic Recipes and add your own

This app is lacking basic features and recipes. For one, there needs to be a section for doing basic cooking, like rice or beans, or types of cooking methods, air frying, dehydrating, pressure cooking, etc. You also don’t have the ability to add in your own recipes. For instance, no recipe for streaming crab legs exists, but plenty exist on the internet, so I’d like the ability to add in my own recipe instead of going to the internet everything 2 months when I make them. I can’t believe there isn’t a recipe for crab legs?!?!Outside of this, the Instant Pot we have works wonderfully, but we find we don’t use it as often because we don’t understand the basics and have recipes that we eat frequently.

Respect the duo crisp!

My overall experience with instantpot has been very good. Their customer service through covid pandemic has been GREAT! However this app somehow cannot seem to live up to probably one of the most expensive items on their lineup. I have the Instantpot 8 quart duel crisp. You would think that they would have this item listed in the available models of which to get recipes for. Instead however one must use their imagination one coming up with air fryer recipes. Rice? Nothing here for us, (although I’ve found to just use 8+9 nr). The settings on this one are different than the models with tons of presets so you’re up to your own devices to figure things out, almost as if it’s a different brand.

Recent update makes it user unfriendly

This used to be an incredible app I could quickly browse on my lunch break for an easy recipe to make when I got home from work. However, with the most recent update, this app went from 5 stars to 1. The update took away recipe folders so my saved recipes are no longer sorted which makes finding the one I want much harder. It also took away the discussion section on recipes which I found to be an incredible tool if a recipe wasn’t rated great. I could read through to see if people had easy fixes on common problems or if it was rated bad from people just not following instructions. The recipe cards when browser are also much bigger with a poorly designed layout so little fits on the screen. I can’t say the last time I’ve rated an app but this honestly deserves a 1 star review or less. The update took away all the good features of the app and somehow made the bad ones even worse.

Why Did You Step Backwards?

I have enjoyed using the Instant Brands app to find recipes for a while now and have discovered some truly amazing, delicious, and easy to make recipes. Your appliances have made me fall in love with cooking. A while back the app was given a major overhaul ands what I’m trying to understand is why did you step backwards? I speak specifically of the removal of the blender appliance. I love my Instant Ace so I was said to see the major app overhaul removed the appliance. I’m glad that my saved recipes using it are still present but I would like to find new recipes. It just doesn’t make sense to me to remove a feature you already had. We also need the quick reference feature back on the recipe landing page that told us right away which appliance the recipe is for. Having to read the step by step instructions to figure this out can be tedious and even a deal breaker for some of us who are neurodivergent. I don’t want to open and read through the instructions on multiple different recipes just to figure out if I have the right appliance. Honestly, this increases the likelihood of me going elsewhere. We also desperately need back the ability to review recipes, because I just made one that in all honesty, it feels like it was nothing more than a troll.

Great product, awful explanations

Let’s get this out of the way. The product is great. But the learning curve is steep, and the entire process of learning it will drive you nuts. Let’s start with what they called simple rice. First off, the product comes with a handy cheat sheet with different foods and their associated cook times. Cool! Next time white rice? 2 minutes. Open the app and go to rice. The cook time is 22 minutes. Weird huh? Okay let’s move past that. After you’ve rinsed the rice as instructed, it tells you to put the water in the pot (never does it say to put the rice in but let’s forgive that). Next, the app has a helpful timer to start cooking right in the app. Nice! So you start that. Despite the instructions saying the rice function on the physical IP will detect the amount and auto select the cooking time. So you start the 12 minute timer in the app...10 minutes later, you realize, the IP has just started it’s OWN timer. But it needed 10 minutes to heat up or something? Nowhere is this explained. But now, you have the app timer nearly finished and the IP one is just getting started. I’m sure these discrepancies are something a more experienced chef would have no problem deciphering, but if you are new to IP, you will surely find this confusing. Good luck!

Updates have progressively made the app worse and it's now unusable

I loved this app but recent updates made it worse. First my recipes folder removed all the categories and lumped all the recipes into one place, which makes it pointless. Can do a search for recipes faster than going through my recipes folder. Then the ability to adjust the number of servings was removed so you have to do the math yourself if you want to make more or less than the original recipe. Now, I can't even log into the app on my iPad and get a blank screen on the main page. Can't even search for anything because nothing is loading, making it effectively useless. I even tried rebooting my iPad but still nothing. Next step is to uninstall and reinstall. I've read developers' comments that they're making improvements. This last update was about 17 hrs ago and I guess it finally broke the app. So disappointed.

Instant Pot Easy

I have had a lot of luck with the Instant Pot app. It enables me to save favorite recipes and guides me through the process. The issues that I have with it have to do with ingredient measurements. The units of measure are not clear or consistent. I can usually figure it out, but why would this not be standard and clear, like any other recipe. I have found that some recipe sources are also more reliable than others. Finally, the built in timer feature has not been helpful because it doesn’t take into account preheat time. An added bonus is being able to adjust recipes up and down with the number of servings. The recipe will tell you if your Instant Pot has reached it’s capacity and won’t allow you to go beyond the number of servings it can handle. There are a few flaws, but overall, I like the app.

Instant helper

I made my first recipe from this app, Better Butter Chicken, last night and absolutely loved it. The only other appliance/cooking app I’ve used is for my Joule immersion heater and this one is infinitely better. I like to review new recipes before starting to cook and you can do that to your heart’s content here. Not so with the Joule, which is so intimately tied to its app that neither can be used without the other. I also like the timers integrated into it. Whenever a recipe says to do something, like simmer, for a certain period, there’s a timer button right there in the recipe that’s set to that amount of time for you to click on. While this is less useful when a step uses the Instant Pot’s timer, it is often very helpful. Recommended!

Could be a 5 star but

...it glitches and you can’t organize your favorite recipesThe glitch: if says that you can modify ingredients w substitutes by clicking on a pencil icon which would be GREAT, except it doesn’t always work and when it stops working the only fix I’ve found is to delete the app and reinstall and log in again—it’s annoying because it happens A LOT. when it IS working, you are very limited w the ingredients it allows you to substitute, which is fine but let me know which ingredients can’t be switched. As a matter of fact if they would do away w the pencil and just write the possible substitutes w each ingredient, even better! The other functionality it lacks is the ability to organize my favorite recipes in a way the makes sense to me—not everyone wants their recipes in alphabetical order. The recipes themselves are great though and they do stay true to their level of difficulty and number of servicing. Aesthetically, the app is pleasing and super easy to navigate. It’s the best lay out and information. I would recommend it to new (me) and veteran instant pot owners.
