Repeats Lessons—Not Worth the Price

I’ve been using this app for about 4 months now, and it can be very helpful for attaining new vocabulary and grammar points. However, there is a glaring issue that only appears after you’ve sunk in a lot of time. They repeat vocab words and terms. I’ve reached the final unit for HSK 4, and every single lesson has identical vocab words and grammar points. I’ve noticed this with some other lessons too, where words and grammar points will get repeated, but not to this extent, where it’s every lesson for the entire unit. I reported it using the in-app function, and tried to speak with customer service, who brushed me off and then stopped responding. It’d be one thing if this was a free app, or even 20 dollars. But you pay over 100 dollars to get the VIP (which is really necessary to get any use out of the app—the “free version” only allows you to use it for ten minutes, giving you a small taste of what it is so you’ll buy it. Then you realize down the line that they never fully finished it). I’ll change my review when they add new words and grammar terms, but as it is I wouldn’t recommend dropping the money for this deceptive marketing.

It’s fine, but i’d keep looking for another app

A few cons:- at least in the HSK 1 section, a lot of the listening and reading exercises use vocabulary that isn’t taught at the HSK 1 level. You’re just supposed to magically know what those words mean, and getting the right answer depends on you understanding every word- all of the grammar explanations are written in chinese, and to see the english version, you click a button that translates the text in real time with google translate (which is often not great). So they didn’t bother finding someone who speaks english to teach concepts to english speakers- in some exercises, the characters are always underlined. it looks like there’s an extra stroke. this becomes especially absurd when being quizzed on numbers- there are quizzes where you’re supposed to click on the picture that the text or speech describes, but it’s all cheap stock photos and they clearly had a limited budget, so many of the pictures just barely pertain to the description- when learning new vocabulary, it shows you a word, then quizzes you on just that single word before moving on to the next word. you simply couldn’t forget it that fast even if you had the memento version of amnesiapros:- lots of different speakers with different accents- it goes all the way to hsk 6

Good concept, but extremely buggy

This app is decent when it works, but it is often buggy to the point of being unusable. They block off sections of study until you unlock them (via paying for a subscription or by completing sections before them) and that unlocking logic has broken for me several times, meaning that I can’t access any new content in the app until I contact support, which takes several days to resolve. This is definitely not what I’d expect from an app I’m paying $15/month for, so I cancelled my subscription and am going to use other apps. I hope they fix it, this is a good learning tool otherwise.

Not bad

I have use the products by NaN Chao for six years now and it's really improved my listening immensely. None of the Chinese apps seem to feature giant characters. I'm using an iPad and I'm getting eye strain trying to read the tiny characters on this screen. I'm 53 years old. Your app is very engaging. I found the tests in the questions challenging and interesting. However right now I'm rubbing my eyes and they're really dry. Put yourself in a customers shoes. The developer rote back to me and it's possible to adjust the font sizes.

Question

Hello! I have a question for you guys about this app. I’ve been recently using this and I want to buy the VIP version to extend my chinese learning, but my mom won’t let me buy it because she thinks it could be a scam and that I shouldn’t buy it because she’s unsure that it’s a reliable site. I tried convincing her that this site has many good reviews and that it should be very reliable but she won’t believe me because I’m young and I don’t know many things??? I’m supposed to be learning Chinese because I’m studying in China.. I really want to buy the VIP version but my mom just won’t let me. You don’t scam users right? I’m pretty sure you don’t. But my mom won’t believe me anyways 😑

Question

I just purchased the VIP upgrade but when I go to the Vocabulary section of the Companion + section it keeps telling me that I do not have the latest version of the app and to please update. I have updated and when I select update again it only has the “open” option from the App Store. Why is it not letting me get through?Since the previous question was sent the company has gotten back to me and helped me fix the problem. I love this app and use it daily. The flow of the actual app helps you learn step by step. Love this app and well worth the VIP price.

Great App, recent updates not very good

Brilliant app, but the older version was better for a few reasons (besides having to pay):•You used to be able to copy text in the app (eg. example sentences in the vocabulary cards). I used this to paste complex sentences into Pleco and analyze them. •Also in the vocabulary flashcards section, you used to be able to pick a deck (eg. HSK 4, deck 3) and scroll freely between all the cards, and leave the deck whenever you wanted. Now, you have to go from beginning to end, and then onto the “practice” section. I want to be able to click any card deck, scroll freely, and leave freely. •On-click functions are too delayed. When I click the audio, for example, it takes much longer to load. I would greatly appreciate it if the old interface was returned. It was far superior.

Older Version Better

I had the old version and I decided to upgrade to see if they had upgraded to the new HSK yet or not. They hadn’t, and I found myself with less free features than before. They have now put a time limit on how long you can practice for. I understand making tests and questions only available for VIP, but making the study section—which was totally free before—now only a 5 minute a day feature was just a big disappointment coming from the older version. I’ve spoken to their team before and they’re very helpful, however this was just a bit uncalled for.

Can’t log in

Edit: Reinstalling the app has resolved my authentication issue. I have paid in the lifetime membership and plan to use this app a lot, highly recommended to anyone who’s preparing for the exams. My main feedback is still that I wish I wasn’t logged out of the app if I’m using it on multiple devices, it could at least be a lifetime feature.————————————I am using the app on my iPhone and iPad and I keep being logged out of one or the other, when I switch between devices! This didn’t bother me until today - I am now completely unable to log in, it keeps saying authentication failed, even after I reset my password.I managed to log in a few times and it logs me out in the middle of my study session, saying authentication failed.This is completely unacceptable for a paid app, I am paying a monthly subscription to study for an exam, and I can’t log in!!! :(

The best learning app

I’ve used so many app, but this one is super special, since student life is so busy and there is not a lot of free time I’ve struggled to focus on studying chinese for my HSK5, I’ve bought the books and everything but there was not time for, I my as well say it wasn’t attractive to my to spend time reading them but things changed since I downloaded SUPERTEST it has become part of my routine, when I wake up and before I go to sleep I spend at least an hour learning from the app. I’m so addicted to it that it became a way of procrastination because I spend so much time on it 🫠♥️
