Best Collection Management App Available

Besides playing Magic, most of us can agree managing a collection is also part of the lure of the game. I own 14,000+ cards and build and tweak decks constantly, from Standard to Legacy. I’ve bought hundreds of individual cards and also crack booster boxes regularly (another fun part of the game). Managing everything can be daunting, so I tried out a few different apps, from MTG Manager to CardCastle. Helvault is the best. The functionality, ease of use, and scanning is far superior to the others out there, but most importantly, the developer responded to my inquiry about an issue uploading an import fileand resolved it immediately, spending a ton of time on his own. INCREDIBLE!! To have such a great App and amazing customer service ... win-win. Look no further when you’re ready to scan and manage you MTG collection.

One of the best — still needs a little work!

I’ve tried all of the MTG binder apps on the App Store. Almost all of them were really finicky when it came to scanning your cards. Helvault is the easiest, most straightforward and reliable when it comes to scanning. So highly recommended if you’re trying to just scan your cards and export them to CSV. However, the app does still need a little more polish:1. Bulk options. Was playing around with the app and added a bunch of cards accidentally. I had to go into each individual card and change the quantity to delete these. I also forgot to make a “binder” in the app. If I want to add all the cards I’ve scanned so far into a binder, I have to click through on each card to do that. It would be great if there was an “edit” button where I could do these actions on a batch of cards at once. 2. For some reason, the “stats” screen is REALLY slow. It takes more than a minute for the stats to load on that screen. 3. Set icons. It would be great if the app could either a) show the set icons when choosing a set or b) auto recognize the set based on the icon when it’s scanned. 4. Finally, it would be neat if the land art would match the card — lands from the same set often have a few different versions. But the app only shows one type of land no matter which type you scan. But otherwise this is the best of the bunch!

Not free, but 100% worth

I’m not one for leaving reviews usually, but after comparing this to the tcg collection beta thing, gotta say this saves about 80% of the time and has 5x more features. Considering I’ve looked at multiple sites to compare this apps prices to average prices elsewhere, and the results are almost exact, I gotta say this was worth the $8. I do wish it said before downloading that its extremely limited in use without paying, and I wish it recognized the set symbols since some of my lands are ancient, and sometimes a struggle to find on here. The system they use to find specific cards within different sets is brilliant, using mostly images to help specify cards to a tee. Being allowed to make specific decks and see prices for each card, the total deck price, the percentage of what colored mana is in the deck, the count of each card type in the deck (land, instant, artifact, etc.) and the mana curve with an average mana cost…. This is definitely the app for anyone looking for an amazing collection tracker and pricer.Edit: Just looked at other reviews and the developers actually take into consideration user reviews and implement some suggestions into the app…. Wish all developers were like this.Devs, if u see this, I definitely think the set icon identifier, or some sort of addition like this, would make this the only app people should use for mtg

Update suggestions

I love this app, it is immensely helpful while trying to organize my collection! While using the app, I thought of some things that might be useful to add if they aren’t already in the app. The ability to copy and past card or cards from one binder to another like filtering the “all cards” binder by lands, copying them and pasting them in another binder. Another addition that would be useful would be adding all tokens and their variations, I was trying to scan my tokens so I could have an accurate list of how many of each I have, but when I was scanning, some wouldn’t come up, and some only had 1 set variation and displayed an error if I tried to change it, like the “Cat” token. I own a couple M13 Cat tokens, but when I scan it, it only is able to pull up the 2021 version and displays an error when I try to change the set. But like I said, these are just suggestions and overall this is an amazing app!

Fast and accurate scanning, not enough analytics

I have a collection of over 20k cards. I was able to scan them at a rate of approximately 1k per hour, not including sorting time. I loved the process for scanning (auto scanning is included for free when u pay $7.99 for unlimited scanning) as well as how I can sort through everything and add cards to “binders” and get separate numbers for that. I also love that it shows full card pictures from different sets when you scan a card. It can be hard to tell sometimes what set a card comes from and there can be a significant price difference based on set.Apart from the value of the card as it is right now or the value of all of my cards or specific binders, there are no analytics. I would like to be able to see, for example, how much of the value of my collection is from green cards, or lands, or commons. I was hoping the export would help with that but it didn’t. Also, a minor improvement suggestion would be to add a picture of the set icon next to the name of the set when scanning a card. I had to keep googling them to find the name because I didn’t recognize the set symbols.Overall, the $$ spent on the app was worth it and I am very happy with it!

I just wish...

This is such a helpful app. (BUT it does cost $8 but it was so worth it) There is just one thing I would love to see. So if I’m building a deck I obviously don’t want to buy the same card twice. So I have the “all” section and my binders. I wish I could compare my “all” with a deck I’m planning to make to see if I already have cards that I plan on putting in the deck. It would be a huge help and a huge money/time saver. Other than that just like a toggle or something so my cards work differently. If I only have 5 of one card I don’t want to have 7 of that card between my 3 decks say. Probably just a big bar of red telling which card, how much I’m over, and which decks those cards are in. This would be so nice. But if you do see this and plan on doing it, first good, but second, the all section doesn’t count towards the total. I think of the all section as a database not a deck. If I have 5 in my all and 5 in my deck but only have 7 of that card I’m only using 5 cards so no alert. “All” is really just an online database in my opinion. I just want to see this because it would be so nice and convenient. I love this app though ALMOST perfect. Wish it was but in my eyes that’s all they need.

Great app but lacks a few features

Definitely worth the price for unlimited scanning and advanced CSV export. We have thousands of MtG cards so it saved a TON of time getting our cards categorised. There are a couple improvements that would cause me to five-star it: 1. A “select all” button when moving/deleting. You have to select each card one-by-one to move or delete. 2. Recognise the set symbol when scanning. It only gets the set right about 50% of the time, so you spend extra time after each scan searching and selecting the right set, which adds up tremendously when scanning a large amount of cards. I get that pre-6th edition there weren’t set symbols, so obviously not those. 3. Scan into different binders. All my scans go to Owned Cards, and although I can move cards into binders, they don’t actually move out of Owned Cards. It would be nice if they did, and it would be even nicer if I could scan directly into a binder. Still, I’d recco this app every time. A solid buy.

MTG collection Tracking at its finest

I’m newer to MTG (3 years) but this app is the best I’ve seen so far. I’m a card guy and have played card games since the early 90s. A lot of the fun is tracking your collection and organizing… anyone who enjoys this knows it can become quite tedious. This app lets it much easier.I have one recommendation and one con.The con I have is when scanning land.. you’re going to have to search to find the set you have with the right image. Unfortunately the scanner just reads “forest.” The huge recommendation and suggestion I have is an option to give “view access” to your friends that also have their collections in this app. They can easily scroll through the images rather than read an export excel etc. This would encourage more people to use your app and make it easier for friends to check out what you have. Almost like a social media of MTG collections. (You could further update later on to give notifications of when your friends add cards etc). I would gladly donate to this.Overall, amazing app. Highly recommend and definitely worthy of being on the 2021 top MTG collection apps. I would gladly donate money for this :)

Just what I needed!

Took a chance on a paid app and it is great! (Thanks for the fifty free scans to test drive!) I was able to pull about $150 worth of cards valued between $2-$10 dollars from a 4000ct bulk box in just a few hours. I am impressed by how fast the scanner identifies cards, it’s better than I expected as someone who has never scanned cards before. It does seem to have a bit of trouble with old border white cards, though infrequently. I’m also using it to inventory my entire collection, and I love the straightforward collection management features, sorting and moving between binders and such.A few feature requests: My cards were already sorted by set so it made expansion scanning easy, but I would like the option to select more than one expansion to scan from, instead of just only 1 or everything. So if I’m scanning bulk that is from 5–6 sets of a certain era, I don’t have to keep manually selecting the version.Second feature request would be the option to sort cards into decks and boxes instead of just binders and collections. I just title “binders” as decks now. I’d also like decks to be able to be stored hierarchically, so I can list a deck being inside a certain box, and be able to pull an inventory of either just the deck or all the decks in a certain box. Thanks for this great app!

Good Program

Simple program and fairly simple to use. The program keys in on the name of the card and not the symbol or artwork. This makes finding the exact card a manual action by searching and seeking the card. For small collections, this isn’t a serious setback, but for older larger collection, really slows it down. Another feature not included is an “acquisition price”. The program shows current price, but there doesn’t appear to have a way to show gains and losses. Another minor feature the program lacks is a way to modify where the cards are stored in the inventory. Currently you have 2 choices: binder and list. If you want to log in decks or have cards stored in sleeves or boxes, you have to get a little creative with the title naming convention. Another option that would be fantastic is a way to transfer cards between “binders”. However, the “binder” analysis colors, CMC, type is superior. The best feature of this good program, this is NOT subscription based. Overall, a nice responsive program that should fit the needs of small to middle sized collections.
