Great functional and helpful app

Very useful app that always worked! Downloaded and discarded several others for lack of functionality—-not this one. Used it as a starting point for seeing sights, and also just as information to look up something we stumbled across. Yes, all of this you can do with Google, but for basic sightseeing of all the most important sites, this app can’t be beat for convenience, accuracy and quick access to info. Plus you can’t always access WiF, this you already have. Especially great if you end up somewhere with a bit of time, want to use it to see something, but don’t want to waste a lot of time to have to plan a route. Perfect for business travel in that sense, or long layovers. We found info about tickets and etc to be correct, too. Added bonus!

Wonderful idea. Solid info. Buggy execution.

Let me stare up top I paid for the pro version. This app is overall a wonderful idea. The tours and walking maps are too notch. The information and depth of guides available is amazing. It has SO much potential and is a great value. That being said, a lot of the design choices are just not intuitive, user friendly, and in some cases are downright buggy. Example? There is no way to turn off audio when starting a route to a location. Each time you need to do if manually. Also, when downloading the map, you get a notice that the map is in your downloads… but you can’t exit out of that notice until you close and reopen the app. There are dozens of minor annoyances like that that would take too long to list. At the end of the day though, I have used this for about 6 cities, and have appreciated the content But I hope they do a redesign to make it less glitchy and more intuitive. This app has potential to become really big if they do.

Cheaper than a guided tour

Okay, I see some negative reviews about the map and the clunky app, but I have to say for the price, and yes, including the new yearly subscription, it’s still very worth it. I have used 6 of the paid tours and a few free ones with GPSmyCity. I started with the free, but when I paid for the upgrades (less than $5 at the time), I was pleased. Because I travel at least once or twice a year, I’m willing to pay the subscription mainly to support the team.I just recently came back from Florence where my wife and I spent over $200 for a private guided walking tour that included a fantastic lunch. No complaints, the guide was great and we learned a lot, but it was only 4 hours long and we were at his mercy. For less than $20 using this app, we would’ve been able to map out the tour we wanted, read in advance, and take our time. Yes, you can use Google and Pocket Earth and other free tools, but come on - for $20 you can get a well organized and fun tour with a pretty decent offline map. Spending hundreds in flight and hotels, I don’t $20 for something that would cost 3 times or more for a true guided tour.Oh, and the support team has been awesome for times when I did have problems with the app. I’ve been using them for years and will continue to do so. Don’t let the few negative ads steer you away - give it a shot...

GPSmyCity App

GPSmyCity App is very helpful for folks who like to take self-guided walks. We recently used it in the UK and found the app to offer multiple walks that would meet anyone’s interests. There are city introduction walks, special interest walks (like Beatles or Harry Potter walks) Historic City Walks etc…The app provides maps with push pins to denote significant sites. It will even “Find me” on the map and track you as you walk if you are interested. I was. Best of all, the app provides written information on each of the sites listing historical and pertinent information just as if you had printed out a walking tour on your computer with multiple sheets to carry. All walking tours can be downloaded so you do not have to have an active internet connection. Perfect! We plan to use it again shortly on our tour of other European countries.

Adore this app!

I downloaded this app a few days ago, and started using it to plan a multi- city trip to Europe. Wow! I love this app - it makes planning super easy. I’ve been traveling far and wide, both professionally and personally, for years. I’ve planned complex trips, and know how overwhelming it can get. So many places to see in so little time, and so sometimes tough to determine which sights to see, and the best route to take when sights to visit are scattered all over a city. Well, this app makes all of this easy, and fun! Great descriptions and photos of all sights, which ones are “must see sights”, ability to add your own sights (like your hotel). The app determines the best route and how long it will take you. There are tons of wonderful canned walks based on categories like “city overview,” “ museums,” “architecture,” etc. and the ability to create customized walks. If you love to travel, this tool will become an addiction. I tried the free version and then decided to upgrade to the full version because the route creation aspect is fantastic.

Great idea, terrible app

First I’ll specify this review is for the paid upgrade for the city tour. I thought this would be fun while we’re in Palm Springs during covid to see some fun houses. The app had the idea right, there was fun houses to see but using the app was a nightmare. First, it uses it own navigation in the app, not app or Google and it’s awful to say the least. There is no option to take the location and open it in another mapping app. Then I tried to copy and paste the address from the app to bring it to Google, well you can’t highlight any text to copy an address so after my $4.99 I was held hostage by their terrible robot map. My kids were yelling at me in the back seat to turn her voice off but I couldn’t because the map didn’t show up in CarPlay so I had to continually look down at my phone to make sure I was on the right path. I’m not angry enough to ask for my money back but I’m angry enough to spend 10 minutes writing a review in hopes that others don’t make the same mistake.

Would Pay More $$ for More Options

While the app is cheaper than hiring a walking guide in each city, there should be more functionality to it. I downloaded it for one city and was only able to take one neighborhood walking tour. There were other neighborhoods available but only for sightseeing walks, which weren’t worth it. It felt a little lazy just to include pictures of famous landmarks and attractions without historical context. If I just wanted to look at pretty buildings I could Google that or look at Instagram. Seeing as though I was only able to do one neighborhood discovery walk, the app was not worth it to me, luckily I used the 3 day free trial. I would not be opposed to paying more for more tours within each city/having each sightseeing walk be a discovery walk. I did like the flexibility of having the tour read to me , but having an actual human read it versus an autonomous voice would be better as well as having easier access to the voice option.

Superb travel guide

I visited Kraków Poland for the first time with my daughter. We thought it would be ideal to have a self-guide in an app to use so we could go on our own schedule to visit sites, and not be limited by the schedule of a regular local guide. I found the GPSmyCity city app and set up a tour in several parts of the city. It worked wonderfully and we had a great day. It really allowed us to go to the sites, learn about them from the description in the app, but also stop in any little shop we found along the way. It has made me think that it is much easier to get to know a city. I am going to use it for my own city of Boston. I highly recommend it even if someone is going to work with a local guide. And I thought the cost to purchase all the data for a city was very reasonable for just 4.99. I did not have any ads to worry about and the app just worked great.

My absolute best sightseeing app - you owe t to yourself to give it a try!

Dear Tobin,I have used GPSmyCity all over the world - it is the best app to use if you like charting your own way through destinations. Walk categories are arranged to appeal to those with varied interests and you can also set up custom routes. This is my must have app for my travel! I have used this app in over a dozen different travel destinations from Kuala Lumpur to Lucca to Copenhagen. I no longer travel without first looking to see if there is a city maps and walks edition for the city I am traveling to. The app provides so much flexibility to set your itinerary, allowing you to select only those things that you wish to see. The maps are accurate and the app will establish the most efficient walking route based on the points of interest selected. Try it once, you will love it.

Good intro to cities

This app is great for learning my way around cities and just exploring by foot, which I always prefer to organized tours, buses, etc. The few extra dollars to unlock the real-time maps and tours is well worth it too. The map function is very reliable; I use it over even google maps for figuring out directions. This is also good for getting an preview of cities I might want to visit and explore, to see how close the sights are to each other, where might be some convenient locations to get a hotel in, etc. I’m glad I found this app, highly recommend!I do wish the app wouldn’t reload itself after a little idle time tho, makes me have to re-navigate back into my tour every time. But that’s the only thing I would change.
