Recording and Playback

This app has some really great features. I really love that the images are of children in real life situations opposed to clipart/cartoon images. My only suggestion would be to have some older children (teens) as part of the Original Pack. I really love the recording and playback features. This allows me to model a sentence and then allow my daughter the opportunity record her own sentence on the same image before moving on. The multi-level hints option is just fabulous, this allows my daughter room to grow and me to challenge her. Thanks Mobile Ed. Tools for another great app.

Lack Diversity

I really enjoy using these cards. They’re great for teaching a variety of actions and pronouns. However, they would be more inclusive if there were a wider variety of ethnicities represented among the pictures.

Speech Language Pathologist (MS, CCC-SLP)

This is a GREAT app for a variety of students. Students love to record the sentences and play them back. It is amazing to watch their self-confidence soar as they listen to themselves! This is great for syntax goals (verb tenses, pronouns, copulary/auxiliary verb forms like is, are, has, have, does, do) and for vocabulary development. I will also use this app for articulation kids who are at the conversation and self-correcting level. I think it could be used for language samples and narrative language as well. I love using real photographs as stimulus items. This developer has created some great apps! I use this stuff on a regular basis for my K-2 population.

Using it ine elementary speech thereapy sessions for kids with autism

Language Builder is a highly effective app designed to help students increase their expressive language skills; but it can be used for much more! The app houses pictured scenes that users are asked to create sentences about. This isn’t a written language task; the user formulates the sentence in their mind and then says it aloud while recording it. This voice record feature is highly motivating for our students! They love hearing themselves say the sentences that they have formulated about the pictures and enjoy playing with their voices in their recordings! The pictured scenes are appropriate for users of all ages and serve as a great teaching tool for a variety of skills. WH-Questions can be asked about the pictures, complex stories can be created by linking the pictures together to tackle creative writing skills. One of my favorite ways to use this app is as a self-monitoring tool for speech production targets (e.g., articulation, fluency and voice). Students can listen to their recordings and judge if they used their best /s/ sound, or if they used their best ‘smooth speech’.

Language app that works

Did the tutorial and started using right away. Simple concept that helped a lot. I also use hint feature right away as my kids are younger. Started with recording my voice until they jumped in. Sparked great sentences with the picture and led to conversations about them and built upon that to become creative and add more to each one. Really enjoy using with my son who is on the spectrum and feel this will be extremely helpful in school year starting tomorrow.

Like this App

The tutorial video is a must to fully understand how to use the app. I like the record and playback so the person can hear themselves speaking. Saving the recording is also a nice option to have. The pictures are beautiful and engaging. Having three levels of hints really helps to be able to use this app with children at different levels. Would like to see the ability to have the hint read allowed if touched for those children that cannot read yet or have difficulty reading. Highlighting the word as it is read will help too. I really feel this is a great app and could reach more kids with the added feature of having the hint read aloud! Way to go Mobile Education!

Excellent application-

I am a retired teacher and now volunteer at an elementary school with my therapy dog through the R.E.A.D. program. After reading, the kids love to use the ipad. I have previously used Story Builder with great success. This app continues with building the language experience. It was amazing to see just how many students had difficulty completing full sentences. This app has beautiful and interesting photos. The recording feature is a major plus. It is also ideal for the ESL student. This app can be used in several ways, so experiment to find out which works best for you.

Love This App!

Every sentence is kept correct, yet in simple format, alleviating frustration and confusion for students! I love that kids can use their own voice and that hints are an option. By being able to use their own voice, this not only makes it fun, but helps kids work on their joint language skills. Another plus is the skill level option given in this app. I appreciated that there was leeway and not an exact answer for each picture in order to be correct. Good job, Education Builder!

Another great app from Mobile Education Store

This app helps children learn how to use language to describe a picture. The hints vary from fill in the blank, to prompting with a couple of writen words, to verbal cuing, depending on the level of the child. My daughter enjoys filling in the blanks right now and it is building her confidence in talking about the things she sees or experiences. I like that the app is easy to just pick up and use rather than needing a long tutorial. And the pictures are engaging and entertaining to my daughter. There are quite a few picture "packs" to choose from, something for almost any child. My daughter prefers the pets pack but if there was a "gaming" pack, she would certainly love that one most of all. Overall, a great app and one that is fun to use while helping my child overcome some of her verbal challenges.
