Great potential, but no traditional characters

This app looks like it has great potential as a Chairman’s Bao and DunChinese competitor. Very happy it uses the new HSK 3.0 system! However, with no traditional character option, it is useless for me. Also, can’t change the HSK level after initial setup, or at least it’s not easy to figure out.

Working really well for a while, but it is now frozen

Really liked this app when it was working and I would go on it daily. However, it froze about 2 weeks ago and never worked again. I have tried deleting the app, reinstalling, restarting my iPhone multiple times. Nothing worked. I can’t even contact the developer, so hopefully they see this review and fix whatever is wrong with it. Will update review if the problem is fixed. Thank you.

I NEVER write reviews but…

This app is the BEST app I’ve used since learning Mandarin. As a teen it has been difficult at times trying to find a good FREE app that allows me to learn freely. I love how this app has so many features and my favorite is the character/vocabulary exercises. Other apps focus more on comprehension but this app focuses more on learning, writing, and listening to the new words you just learned from the stories. This app has just made me more excited to learn and with the amount of stories in this app, I feel like I can just continue learning new words. I’m SO grateful to God for leading me to this app because it has helped me in so many ways. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! You won’t be disappointed! Thank you for your dedication! ❤️❤️❤️

Best Chinese learning app that exists

I’ve tried a ton of Chinese language apps, including Du Chinese as well as online courses. However after using these apps for a few months I felt like I was at a point where I was stuck in knowing more vocabulary and improving my sentence structure quickly. I discovered Dot and this app is a game changer if you’re looking to quickly improve your vocabulary! I’ve felt a ton more progress in HSK 3 since using this app and it’s because this app has a more systematic way of teaching a wider range of vocabulary. Please please please keep providing this app for free! It’s the best I’ve used!

Great app overall, one minor annoyance

This is a fantastic app, no question about it. My only “complaint” is that it seems to be VERY unforgiving with the handwriting. I find it frustrating that if I’m off by what seems like two mm on the length of a long stroke it counts it as wrong, but I guess it will improve my handwriting in preparation for the HSK. Thank you for this amazing app. I’m a university professor and a few of my students are studying Mandarin Chinese. I will recommend this to them. Do you have an app for Cantonese?

Wonderful App

I’ve been using this app for over 400 days now, and I really enjoy it. I’m a casual Mandarin learner and it’s really helped me to improve my reading skills and 汉字 writing skills. It is completely free, which I really appreciate. The app makes it easy to self study because each character is labelled with its HSK level, and the reading lessons begin with HSK 1. Overall, it id a wonderful app that I use daily to supplement my other Chinese resources.The one thing I would love to see added, though, is a way to practice the tones for each character. The tones are presented with the pinyin sounds, and I think that having a way to practice inputting the correct tone during flashcard reviews would help me solidify which tones are used for each word. The current system makes it easy to forget about the tones if you know the general pinyin sounds, and I feel like I haven’t been learning the tones nearly as well as the other aspects. Just a suggestion though for improvement!!

GOOD

I feel so blessed to have found this app 😭😭I’m a broke teen trying to learn chinese and I’ve finally found a free app that actually is decent. After passing the beginner phase, I’ve found it difficult to improve consistently. My biggest obstacle is vocabulary, but I’m too lazy to do anki. With this I can learn new vocabulary without dying from boredom. Thanks 😀

Really Helpful!

The graded readers and accompanying quizzes are super useful for daily learning! There’s a new story every day for each grade level!The in-app dictionary is incredibly convenient as well. You just tap on a word and it tells you a bunch of info including definitions, grade level, Pinyin, components, and counter words, and you can easily mark it to add to an in-app flashcard deck.

I love this app so much

The UI is great. There is a dictionary that shows stroke order, and links to lessons where you can see the word in context. It also breaks down the words into characters and radicals, and shows similar words, all of which are linked. I enjoy reading the new story lessons, and practicing the content from the story. The character writing practice really helps me remember them and even draw them by memory. There are new stories all the time. The app is relaxing and rewarding.I don’t usually leave reviews because it’s tedious. However, this app has NEVER made me watch an ad, so even after taking time to leave a review I feel that my time has not been wasted.I’m also leaving a review because this is a free app and there are no ads. This is unheard of honestly and I don’t know how they paid the developers and fees, so I just wanted to show appreciation.
