I got this hoping to build a cool middle earth style of map and it was easy to creat the map but their is no way to actually build your own map. You could only raise and lower the sea level and change the map style. I went back to the AppStore to see if I was doing some Thing wrong but it looks like I wasn’t doing anything wrong and that’s just how it is. Which it’s not bad but I can’t creat my own world then. I also looked to see when it was last updated and it showed over a year ago. I’m just wondering if you are still updating the app and if creating and adding your own islands will ever be a thing?
It’s a well made app, I must say. However, it would be even better if you could make a “brush” so you can shape the land and sea. It would be even better if you could project the map onto a globe.
Perhaps the description to the app should clarify that the application generates the height map and then lets you mess with the different ways of viewing it (adjusting the “sea level” to show more or less land) and not much else.Still, the quality of generation did inspire a lot of ideas for me and helped me quickly sketch some islands and geographical areas.Would easily be 5/5 if it had more toggles and features affecting the output (scale of difference, rivers, lakes, lesser scale, etc.) 6/5 if it generated any town or wilderness POIs and gave users some control over it.As is, great for inspiration!
It can create some pretty good maps, and does its purpose well. It is, well, a map maker. Only problem is the mountains are unrealistic in the pro version. However, even with only one map setting on the non pro version, its maps are still good. I recommend this app.
I tried it out and it did make a map quickly like it said. I just wish you could add more details and didn’t have to pay for other map styles. The terrain feature does nothing. Is it supposed to do something? It doesn’t change the map but do i need pro version for that? I will use it for a first rough draft of a map in future campaigns I run. I just wish you could add village locations and draw some terrain. It still works as a starting point though.
By itself it gives pretty good continent silhouettes and with some thought and imagination it’s free hight map is okay, I really want to try the more developed height maps to see the generated mountains and see the landscape more fleshed out but it cost money, even if it is just a few more dollars.
This is very basic but still really helpful when you need to come up with something quickly! You can always flesh things out in more detail when you have the time...
I purchased the pro version, and Immediately regretted it. It didn’t add a lot of features, and I felt like I wasted my money. I went to try and look on the settings to “return” it or give up the features in return for the money back, but there is NO SETTINGS. I had to come to the app store to get help. I don’t know what I expect, but I would appreciate anything from the developer. Admitted, the map generation is cool and realistic, but I feel like my money was not used well. Even if I don’t get my money back, please at least make the purchase LESS expensive. $1.99 is a lot to pay for 4-5 more map types and no copyright on the final product. Please try to get back to me as soon as possible.Thansk!
This app isn’t perfect. But if you need a random map when creating a world it does the job. Very helpful. Wish they had a little bit more customization available. Then I would give it 5 stars.
This app looked nice from the information page but after downloading it I was very disappointed. It seems to just generate a random land mass where all you can do is adjust sea levels. I can’t imagine circumstances under which this app would be useful. If you’re a person who wants to save land and sea looking blobs for some purpose, by all means get this app. Maybe there are other apps that let you load an image that you can then overlay a grid and edit or add some sort of details. If so, i wish someone would let me know. With such an app I might make some use of this “cartography” thingy I downloaded.
Designed specifically by and for writers and RPG players, Cartographer is the perfect tool for creating custom maps of alien worlds, fantasy realms, and imaginary landscapes. Simply pick what kind of landscape you're looking for and Cartographer takes care of the rest! Then customize your landscape by adjusting the sea level, turning peninsulas into islands and archipelagos into mountain ranges.
