The lead protagonist is pretty much

Daria. If you’re a 90s kid and ever had the displeasure of re-watching Daria then you should know what you’re getting into. Great gameplay and voice acting. My gripe is just with the “Im so over being in this game” attitude the protagonist takes is so cliche and her disinterest in doing anything other than griping about the minutia of life is not very effective at sucking you into the story. I get that its a more mature adventure but it ends up feeling like a “spoiled brat in New York” simulator really fast. You have to give your protagonist a sense of danger or at least make them a tad bolder. Just about everything you click on has some snide kind of retort like “Im not touching that.” But then you’ll end up using some random object that makes no sense and the protagonist has no trouble agreeing to do these weird things.I think for the right kind of person this is a great game mechanically but not for anyone looking for something more fantastical then a character who just complains all the time and weird things happened to. Just a matter of taste I suppose.

Bug

I have loved the game so far, however I have encountered a bug that keeps me from progressing. In Kelly's dorm room, I have tried using the phone and inquiring about a distraction. Nothing happened and now when I try to use the phone again it just cycles between the beginning and end of the phone conversation, no options are presented. I would greatly appreciate some help or an update so I can get the notebook and move on.

Classic old school point and click

I loved these games. I loved the old school feel of them and the general noir atmosphere I felt as I was playing. They were fun to play, and sometimes frustrating, but overall I loved getting to know the characters and feeling inside of their world.

Was anticipating better

Bought the bundle after seeing rave reviews. Not impressed by gameplay. Finished each in about 2-3 hours and the both felt like hours of clicking around with little sense of purpose or excitement. The game almost feels like a job you don't get paid for and the characters are gruff and unlikeable. Many things don't seem very intuitive, I find myself just mindlessly combining notes and clues after each point of progress until I unlock the next point of progress. Feel like I have to slog through the remaining games in the bundle just to get my money's worth. Can't wait to get it over with and free the memory back up on my device for something else.

Buggy

I ran into a game-stopping bug where the notebook is supposed to update when you talk to a certain person, and it doesn’t. I checked a walkthrough because I was totally stuck, and I had already done what the walkthrough suggested. Tested it again, and even though I, the player, know the information, the notebook doesn’t so I can’t progress. There was another earlier bug with the phone in Kelly’s room that had me stumped but not permanently stuck. Less of a “bug” and more a game design thing if you do things in a different order.Overall, as a fan of adventure games, this fell short. On pacing, I usually expect to be stuck for a bit, then have a big breakthrough where the game moves quickly again for a bit, then get stuck again, repeat. In this one I feel I’ve had to squeeze every clue out like juicing a potato with my bare hands without much reward for my work. And mostly brute forcing. Also I don’t like the characters very much, which is important in a story-driven game. I DO like the premise though! I just don’t feel it delivered on my hopes.

Re: Alysstar132

In reply to Alysstar132’s problem: at first I thought that was a bug, but it actually is not.**MILD SPOILERS**What you need to do is go to Rosa’s apartment, talk to Joey, and select ‘ghostly powers.’Joey will blow on the curtains to show his one ghostly power. Then return to Kelly’s room and use the phone. Click on Joey while Rosa is using the phone. You will be able to progress from there.

Fantastic start to the series!

This is a great adventure game in the mold of the old point and click games, along with the pixel-art graphics. I loved the atmosphere, characters and storyline. Despite a couple of obtuse puzzles that relied on clicking every option in a dialog tree before the game would progress, I still had fun. Can't wait to play the rest of the games in this series👍

Super weird, in a good way

It took me probably longer then it should have to get the flow of this game. Having said that, I really enjoyed it. The graphics, I know are supposed to be a nod to games past. I didn't love that, but it didn't keep me from enjoying the hell out of it. I would LOVE to be able to turn the music down and/or off.

Ugh

I knew this game felt familiar. It's exactly like one of their other games I didn't care for, Shiva. Oy. The game plays by itself. It doesn't need you. So much dialog and virtually no play time, unless you think playtime is being instructed of your next clue or location to go to and going there only to be in another pointless dialog for 20 minutes. There is nothing fun here. It's not cutesy, it's not interesting, the female doesn't speak in a way of normal speech flows. You're pointing, you're clicking, you're being led to each next screen and just doing what you're told. Not quite an adventure game. From my perspective it's Shiva in another form and someone will need to sit Shiva for me after this game is over.

Voice Acting is not so good

I made the mistake of playing Kathy Rain on iOS just before purchasing this point and click adventure. If only I had played this first, maybe the sub-par voice acting - the "acting" part specifically - wouldn't have disappointed me so much. The protagonist's monotone emotionless delivery of most lines sounds read straight from the page. Other VA characters aren't much better, but having to listen to that one female voice throughout made the game much less fun. Even turning off the voices didn't improve the experience for me (sorry). The game play is fun, and the story compelling. I would have liked the graphics to be a teeny bit more up-to-date. I enjoy the feel & look of 90's point and click PC games, but also like the smoother look of current-day controls.Overall, not a bad game, but I don't think I will be purchasing the sequels.
