I feel robbed

I was using this app for a few years. I don’t recall, but assume I downloaded a free version. However I never expected them to, after uploading years of art photos from my kids, to essentially hold all those memories hostage until I signed up and paid a monthly subscription fee :(. I knew something so convenient was not going to be free forever, but would have expected them to say something like “you have maxed out on your size” to continue please pay $$xx for additional storage, and had given me the option. Instead, without warning my photos are no longer accessible unless I sign up for one of the monthly subscriptions. I regret ever downloading this app. The reality is I will likely sign up for the $36/ annual just to get access to my content, but will not continue to use this app after I get my photos back. I feel like this is just bad business. “Come try our free app so we can hold your treasures hostage until you pay us...”.

Horrible change in business model

This was a great photo storage app for artwork but their new “membership” requirement and pricing is ridiculous. If you want to spend a few hundred a year on a single photo book of art then great! Or you can just upload the pics to a Shutterfly album (or any other photo storage app) and make a $30 photo book there. When I emailed their customer service about my complaints I got a super nasty response. Now that I’m here reading the responses to the reviews, I’m seriously shocked!! WHAT KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONDS LIKE THIS?! Artkive should take some of the money they’re making from this price gouging scheme and hire a legit PR person, they must have teenagers sending these responses. I would advise NOT using the this app, I don’t think this company will be around long enough to actually deliver anything.

Great product - poor service - lost artwork

We love our photo book and impressed by creativity of laying out the artwork to capture the sweetness of our son’s first year of life artwork. The major issue is that for our personal experience, artkive did not use the centrally managed profile information to ensure artwork was being sent to the right home. I had changed our home address when I ordered our book, which arrived at the front door of our new home. Not even a week later I was emailed by artkive notifying me they sent the box to my old address. I responded and said it’s the wrong address and the follow on email informed me it was delivered to our old home. The artwork is not at our old home nor is it the responsibility of the new homeowner to keep track of our mail. I have tried, to no avail, to speak with someone about the matter. Artkive will not respond to my emails and I am absolutely gutted that I do not have the choice to dispose of my own child’s artwork rather it was decided for me with no resolution. Of course it comes with risk to entrust someone with such a task however, I had updated my information and the company did not reference my centrally located profile data. I wish you all the best with the service and don’t wish upon anyone else losing all of their baby’s footprint artwork ):

Publishing my kids’ artwork

I’m a busy working mom so when I heard about Artkive from a friend, I was psyched. I sent in artwork for both of my kids in one box and they professionally photographed all of it and tagged by kid and age. I had hoped to do this at home but I just could never make time and honestly the photos would not have turned out even half as good. I got one keepsake book for each kid, and my kids love looking at their books and showing it to their friends. I chose to have Artkive send the art back, but I honestly don’t even need the originals anymore. My kids and I are enthralled with the books. The service is expensive, but they do everything for you and it’s worth it. Highly recommend!

Photos held hostage for annual fee

I started artkive years ago when it was free, then one day they decided to put their pocketbook first and their customers second. They informed their users there would now be an annual fee (over $100) to continue to save their photos. If you want your photos back without the fee you had to get on your pc and download each photo individually within 30 days. Once you cancel your membership they delete all your photos!! They like to tell you what a great deal membership actually is because your annual fee goes towards a photo-book, but photo books cost in the $150+ range so I ended up paying over $200 for the ability to keep my digital photos for a year and make a book. You can just as easily use one of the many free photo apps and make a photo book for $30. I gave it two stars because taking a photo and having the ability to assign your child’s name and age is a handy feature. You can still do this elsewhere without the financial hit. I just think of this as an underhanded company.

Non existent customer service.

The ‘3’ star rating is mostly related to the length of time it has taken to get these books completed. I started the process back in May and will hopefully be getting the books in early December. Otherwise, I would say the customer service piece is trying to compensate for this issue and for that I am truly appreciative. At the final book review before they went to press, it looked like this will be a high quality finished product when all said and done. So that is a definite plus. I do anticipate using them again down the road though would appreciate up front being provided a more accurate turnaround time estimate as that was missing from this first experience.

Amazing service for parents with more art than space...

What an amazing concept this is, especially when you have no idea what to do with the crushing amount of artwork kids bring home from school on a seemingly endless basis.Order a box, pack it full with the child’s art and weeks later receive a beautiful bound, hardcover book that looks like something out of a museum gift shop. Now I don’t have to feel guilty throwing the artwork away. It’s displayed nicely and takes up way less space. The people that thought of this must be parents. It’s genius! Wish I would have known about this years ago.

Disingenuously fronts as a free app, but it works

Like many others, I find the bait and switch business model to be unacceptable, and I am discontinuing use of the app. When I downloaded the app, there was no mention of it only being free up until you add 40 images, after which point you must pay in 30 days or loose your photos. Who would use the app that wouldn’t eventually reach the 40 photo limit?IF you are willing to pay for the service they provide, I can share that the app works just fine. It’s a relatively easy interface and allows you to track art by child and age. So if you’re looking for this then it will probably work fine for you. I, however, will be moving my photos to another photo app for free (truly free, forever free). It’s a hassle that I’d rather not have to go through, but it’s worth it to avoid being “trapped” into a membership.I strongly suggest that the company make it clear up front that this is a “free limited trial,” and even make people agree to understanding that they will eventually have to pay. Had I seen this notice I would not have started using the app (which is the point of their tactics).

Dishonest/ Scammers/ Bait and Switch

Pick any of the above description! Stay far away from this company. They are trying to make things appear so easy and noncommittal to get you to send in your kids art work. They present it as being all about cherishing your kids memories but in reality they are baiting and switching you. At no point did I commit to purchase anything. I sent in the art work and wanted to then look at different options and view the pricing. Once I realized how costly it would be to order two 30 page photo books I opted not to proceed. They sent an invoice and then hired a collection company!!!! This is after they have purposefully been deceitful and misleading. Mind you I haven’t received anything from them, no disc containing digital photographs, no return of original art work and certainly no photo books. Not sure what they are charging me for. They say it’s for the photographer taking these images. I wouldn’t have had a problem with that but they had stated I could choose which photos to put in the book. Total lies. Complete waste of a business model if you ask me.

Absolutely wonderful! Highly recommend.

If you’re a parent, this is the app for you (no matter how old your kids are)! So happy we found Artkive. The app makes it so easy to store and track my kids art as they get older. Over the past two years Artkive’s created two beautiful books of the children’s art work. If you are overrun with art projects, hand it all over to Artkive and you’ll get the most amazing compilation of work back in a beautiful book!! Seriously HIGHLY recommend!!
