Apple Reduces App Store Commission to 15%

Apple is planning to launch a new Small Business Program on January 1st, 2021.

This program is planned to expedite innovation and help small businesses and independent developers move their business forward with the next generation of revolutionary apps. Apple states that most of the apps should qualify for the program. In such tough times where many small businesses are struggling to find their endings, Apple hopes that lowering the commission will allow small developers to invest more in resources and grow their business in the AppStore ecosystem.

Developers earning up to $1M per year will only have to pay 15% commission on in-app purchases, rather than the standard 30%.

Here are the criteria to be able to participate:

  • Existing developers with earnings up to 1$ million as well as new developers are eligible to participate and can qualify for a reduced commission

  • If the earnings are more than $1 million, then the regular commission applies

  • If the business falls below $1 million in the future, the developer can requalify for the 15% commission for the upcoming year.

Apple is a company committed to giving young entrepreneurs and growing businesses all the essential resources to turn their brightest ideas into apps that help change the World. The Apple Small Business Program will be beneficial for a vast majority of developers who sell digital goods and services in the App Store, providing them with a lower commission rate on paid apps and in-app purchases.
