Needs additional page formats

I use this app almost daily; it is one of my all-time favorites. I just wish it had additional page formats, as I frequently need to scan ledger size (11"x17") and larger architectural plans and the app only has 4 standard sizes from which to choose. Add these page formats, or the ability to manually set page size, and I'll re-rate at 5 stars.

From Recipe Book to iPhone Recipe App

I have well over a hundred recipe books on the shelves, plus many hundreds of individual recipes from the New York Times and elsewhere in three-ring notebooks. I needed a way to get printed contents into my AnyList recipe and grocery shopping list app. FineScanner Pro is this home cook’s perfect OCR dream app for moving ingredients, preparation, cooking times, servings and nutrition data and more from shelf or binder via the camera and into my device. If I need to, with FineScanner’s help I can do meal planning from among my favorite recipes while sitting in the grocery store parking lot... A capability once limited to expensive laptop and desktop software is now within affordable reach of the stovetop!

Not worth the price

Update: after spending $50 on this app, they are still spamming me and trying to now get a subscription fee. This is a terrible app and not worth the money. I purchased this in order to quickly scan several cookbooks that I have. This app has several flaws:-Poor edge detectionOnce you take photos of the book pages, you must go through and manually pick the edge of the book. This is tedious and other apps do a much better job with much less manual intervention. -Long processing timeAfter the edges of the book are marked, the images must be processed and sent to their servers. This seems odd and unnecessary. It also took a long time to process for just a few dozen pages. -inaccurate OCREven after all this, it still made many mistakes which are time consuming to correct. I am extremely disappointed with this app and do not recommend others purchase it.

Best scanning and OCR app that exists!

I’ve been using FineScannerPRO for a few years now and it just keeps getting better! Scanning is simple with the iPad or iPhone and OCR is very accurate. I’ve been using it to recognize text in both English and Spanish, both of which work great. The new page area recognition features make it easier than ever to scan pages with little or no manual adjustments. Recognized documents can be downloaded in several useful file formats including MS Word, RTF, and plain text. I now do all my scanning and OCR on my iPad instead of my dedicated scanner. It is just so much faster and easier. You can also make a “photocopy” of any document just by printing the result of your scan. I would highly recommend this app!

Indispensable for importing and exporting ocr'd files

I frequently receive scanned PDF's in image format only that I need to markup and comment, which is only fully possible with recognized text. No other PDF scanner app that I have found, despite many having otherwise excellent features, allows you to import PDF files and then export the text recognized files to another app, except for this one. This single app has now made my iPad a true laptop replacement. Thanks for a fantastic, simple to use app that does exactly what it promises.

indispensable for historians

I am a history graduate student who needs to scan documents as quickly as possible in the archives. This app has everything I could ever need to accomplish the mission — auto capture, OCR, automatic cloud sync, and (most importantly!) the stability to scan in massive documents. This app has never crashed on me, not even when I scanned a folder with 400 pages of correspondence into a single PDF file! I recommend this app as a superior alternative to all of my colleagues who contemplate purchasing a handheld scanner.

A world-class OCR app

In 1988, I purchased one of the first OCR scanners on the market for $12,000. Since that time, I have purchased several OCR desktop applications. But none of these can measure up to the ABBYY FineReader PDF Pro. It is without peer in the OCR scanning market. I can now do better, and more efficiently, on my iPad what any desktop software can do. I highly recommend this product to anyone needing to convert image to text or convert between a variety of formats. You will not be disappointed in the outstanding performance of this app. Earlier I did have a problem with the app, but the support staff resolved it promptly, for which I am grateful.FROM THE DEVELOPER (Jun 7, 2021): /r/nHello ____,I'm sorry for delay with the reply. We've checked in addition, in the shop the last our answer is shown, we can't change old published answers.Thank you for your updated positive view. We highly appreciate it!Kind regards, ABBYY Support Team

Not so fine.

Do you want a high quality scan that is also searchable? You are out of luck here. You have to accept a low quality compressed image if you want OCR. ABBYY says this is because of pre-processing. Other companies provide both. I am guessing that the OCR is done on their server which is why it is compressed for transit. This may also be a privacy and compliance issue for some users. ABBYY has not responded to my recent query. Even the OCR is not tops in my testing. I use the business card scanner by ABBYY, but Finescanner is simply not useful software in its current form.

book scanning poor

I have had no luck with book scanning which is why I bought it. sending images back to their server takes forever. app should store all images locally. I purchased the pro version and book scanner products for iOS. They discontinued both. They will not upgrade their replacement product for me. Which means I am unsupported. I have been had any good scans from either app. It sends the data to their server for processing which takes some time and produces bad results. They are in another country
