Old version was great but...

I LOVED the older version where the in game stuff was completely free and the only thing you had to buy was access to the rest of the game, which was relatively cheap. I played that for ages. I went to download the game again and replay it but I was met with a nasty surprise. They incorporated gems?? What is this crap. I get they need to make money but this really, REALLY makes the game unfun and more grueling. I would’ve just rebought the access to the rest of the game, but I’m not wasting my money on Ingame currency. So far the game is still interesting in fun a bit but the gems really just throw me off and I hate the gem system, not the game. Game developers if you are reading this: Please remove the gems, but incorporate something that will be just as effective for earning money but allows the players to level up normally and actually play the game without having to pay. Of course for different chapters or to continue the game you can have a cost, but really I wouldn’t even bother buying gems if it were me, I’d play until it requires me to buy gems then I’d click the good ol’ delete because the audience target you have for this game can’t exactly buy gems whenever they need it just to expand their inventory. So thanks but no thanks. I love the game but Ah he gems. Okay enough of the rant. It is a wonderful game.

Don't play unless you want to pay big bucks

I would spend $5 to play a game like this but it is clear that one would need to pay a lot more to complete the tasks in this game. I'm only on chapter 2 and have reached a challenge that costs 5 emeralds to complete. They give you 5 minutes to complete a task that has to "cook" for 5 minutes making it impossible to complete without paying emeralds to speed up the process. You can win a limited number of emeralds - but it would be such a tedious process to do so and advance much of anywhere in the game that no one would ever play. I don't mind games that you can complete without using the fake currency or that take longer to complete without the fake currency - but any video game that essentially requires you to use the fake currency to progress is a scam. The first warning should be any video game that has a store option for $99 real currency to get in game currency. I wouldn't pay $99 for any video game but these games know how to hook people and take their cash. Developers need to make money - but they should do it honestly and upfront. Not by hooking people, making them invest in a game to go a little further and then requiring them to continue to invest to keep playing.

Good but can be better

Been playing it for a while, so far so good. The only down side is the price for extra space, both in the bag and storage is too expensive. It’s ok in the beginning because the task doesn’t require to find lots of things but getting to further I keep running out of space and running out of gems to buy extra space. It would be great if you can be a bit more generous. The other thing, I also hate when the commercials always triggered when we enter the cave and during limited time task. Can you find better timing to put the commercials, I mean I don’t mind the ads but when we try to get the task as fast as possible and the ads keep showing during the timed task, it’s really annoying. Other than that I am happy with this game and thank you for making this game free.

Great Game, Update Please

Love this game! Gameplay is reasonably paced, ad-free, *highly* addictive, AND doesn’t include any “hidden object” or “matching game” side quests to further your progress. Even while you are waiting for items to be ready/available for one quest, you can be collecting/storing items for other quests. Unfortunately, the current levels max out at “Chapter 11: Predatory Lands,” (with the major tease of seeing “warehouses” and several other cloud enshrouded lands on the map). The only negative feedback I have for this game is that it seems G5 has given up on updating it as of 2-3 years ago. There are many fans of this game who have left similar reviews over the last several years, and I have yet to see a response from the developers. While it would be nice to hear news about whether we can expect an update or not, don’t let that deter you! This is definitely my favorite town-building/adventure/strategy game.

Excellent game...but...

I absolutely loved this game. It became addictive. Online searches helped me kill the crab (lots of arrows and food; die then restore immediately to keep shooting with arrows), and all of the other creatures (always use the pink potion). I was excited to be able to accomplish everything and leave the island, and then excited to wind up on the next island. BUT... after restoring the railroad, the game stops. Just stops. With an “update coming soon.” Apparently this has been up for years. As long as you are ok with simply playing on the first island, this is a great task-oriented game. I do recommend taking some days to just store food (crab salad was great bc you don’t have to grow anything), make arrows, and make a couple of each potion. Then the rest of the tasks are easy. Also - don’t worry - when you leave the island, your stored stuff will magically appear on the next island. So sad it doesn’t continue. They had a great idea.

The Island Castaway: Lost World

So this is the second time I've put a review on this page. If you can't see a first one, it's because it most likely got deleted. So like other players, I'm at the second island, and I'm trying to complete a timed task given by Karuka. A few items are needed to complete it including two datura bowls. One problem, the game programmers only gave us one. To complete the task, you would have to buy the second one. Don't know why they suddenly decided to force you to use emeralds to complete a task, but it certainly looks that way. Is there a reason? Possibly, but yet we face another problem, no one from G5, the game programmers, the admins on their FB page are responding at all. I've reach out to them, twice, but no one has reached out to me. I find that a bit unprofessional and extremely unacceptable! I was really into this game. Been recovering from knee surgery the whole summer and of all the games I've played, this one kept me the most entertained. Now sadly, I find myself being very disappointed. Careful playing this game, you too might be disappointed.

Very disappointed!

I loved the first two versions of the "island castaway" series. I'm so disappointed that this version requires ongoing payments to purchase "gems". I would've never even downloaded this version if I had known that. I was more than willing to pay a one-time purchase, the other two were definitely worth it. Sad. 😔UPDATE: It just gets worse.... I actually REALLY tried this game (against my better judgement) only because I loved the first two versions so much. I spent well over $100 in the first week of playing......by the end, I was glad it was over. I have no problem paying for a game if it's worth it. This one is nothing but a money pit. The tasks are next to impossible without paying lots of $$$$. To those that are familiar with the 1st and 2nd versions, I BOUGHT a bow that I thought would kill boars, it doesn't. And the boars hunt you while you're on a quest, talking to whoever you're supposed to talk to. If this is the new G5, I won't ever download again. Thanks for the awesome 1 & 2 versions of this game. Those are awesome and definitely worth paying for.

Great game with a Strong Sucker PUNCH!!!!!

The only thing I have to say, is that I have bought the 1st and 2nd titles of this game before this version came out, and I totally love this version with the only objection in which the game developers practically force you to buy gems (the internal currency of the game) because almost all the missions cannot be accomplished unless you use a gem and all task have to be finished within the allotted time or they won't count, it will be better that a great reward or acquisition of an item that can't be found on your own is obtained when completing a task is obtained but you won't get anything if you don't finish in time you could still play the game but take more steps to reach the same goal, kind of play more or pay system instead of the play more and pay, and still get nothing; more over what is the point of having storage if the tasks don't let you use your stored items in addition if doing tasks don't let you use stored items WHY do I have to get more storage to acquire them, lastly if a task can't be accomplished why do you allow it to happen and why is the last piece of all blue prints for all the upgrades can only be obtained with gems and not through playing the game? Fix this please the game has enough potential to be great but you guys at G5 are turning this great title into common day version of a communist fascist society!

Story style game

I'm only in level 14 but so far I enjoy the game. Some of the artwork is anime style, I wish more of it was. On the downside it is very difficult to accomplish some quests without spending emeralds. I don't think the game makers are being fair on some of the quests. I had one quest which it takes a minimum of 13 minutes to complete & they only allow 6 minutes which is extremely unfair (if these are glitches please fix). Also, they do not give enough planting plots & esp. inventory slots at the start of the game & they have to be bought with emeralds which are given rarely & few. I feel the inventory slots are way overpriced. They need a FAQ section with tutorial for the game as most tools & quests have to be done in a certain order or you will not have access to some of the items needed in a lot of the quests. This is extremely frustrating as game will let you accept a quest although you may not have access to some of the required items for quite a while.

Stuck on the Other side of the World

It’s a fun game, but I think gems are gonna be a big part of it. Been trying to get a “ticweed” and it wants 2 but only 1 regenerates in the time allotted, so it’s a must buy. Can’t go forward until I finish this timed quest. I’ve noticed that most “quests” are usually shorter than regenerations, and you can’t use things you have in storage, so you must buy what extras you can’t pick up in time. And most things you “need” are usually pay with gems. I have at least 10 ticweed in my storage and can’t use any.And I have also noticed that “upgrading” your tools, doesn’t quite make them more efficient, energy levels are not noticeably affected. Been looking at the “delete game” option on my phone. I don’t think it will be much longer before it goes. I am not adverse to paying for somethings, but not for every quest sorry. It was a nice game starting out.
