I am fantastically happy with this app despite what others “like spoiled toddlers” whine and complain over. Very in-stoic.
While it's a nice collection of the stoics I'd really like to see a bit more effort put into the app. A great start would be to have a daily notification with a relevant quote.
I purchased this app solely for its “search” feature, in order to find passages pertinent to my particular needs at any one moment. The search feature is horribly broken, when searching for the word “virtue” in Meditations for example, only ONE instance is listed in the results. Another common word, “courage”, has ZERO results in Meditations. The feature is useless. I own paperback copies of all these texts for far more than the $1.99 I paid for the app, so to have them at my fingertips is worth the price alone, although there is another free app simply called “Stoic” that has most of these texts as well. That app has no search feature, but this one might as well not have bothered either.
This app is invaluable to the student of Stoicism or philosophy in general. For only $.99 you can have access to most of the key texts on Stoicism, as well as a modern overview to aid the new student. Highly recommended!
Not sure what the upgrade was. But I like the images for each section and the "less is more" excerpts.The free app was great. I just bought the upgrade for the Meditations. I'm sure it will be worth it. Thanks.
Here is an app that is true to the spirit and form of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, and Epictetus' Handbook. Stoicism offers a philosophically Western tradition that smacks of Zen, with an approach to ethics and action that has shined over the centuries for it's brilliance. This application makes these teachings from across the ages now available to you at the touch of a finger. Zeno would be proud.
Thanks for providing reading materials to a poor student who loves to read.
The voiceover is robotic, it is not pleasant to listen, so it doesn’t bring any value.The translation that you have is in old English, it would be great to have more modern version.
Thank you for the work put into this app. It is both useful and user-friendly; and while the appearance could be more polished and "prettied up", it is certainly a fine-looking app. Controls are simple & intuitive. And of course the content is invaluable! =}
This app brings together some of the best examples of Stoic wisdom available. And it offers you the option to purchase still more fine examples of this school of thought. Needless to say I like it enough to want to make the in app purchase to obtain the remaining Stoic texts but try as I might I have been unable to make the purchase. It just sits there when I try. The inability to add the remaining texts has made what could have been a great app into a good one. But do not get me wrong, it is still well worth a download even without the additional texts. But it could have been better with them...
