Audio sync is off and not noticing vast quality improvement.
So far I like this, but on a couple of short videos the video freezes at the end while the audio continues. I just have to record a few seconds more than I need or use the iPhone camera app. On a 40 minute video I shot, the audio sync was off by 1 second immediately. I don’t know how long a video needs to be to have this effect. I was able to shift the audio in Premiere Pro. Also, I am not noticing any difference than when I use the iPhones built-in microphone. Maybe I’ll notice something eventually.
Great App for Auditions
I use this app regularly for taping my kids auditions along with the Shure mic made for the iPhone. I like being able to control so many factors from speed to mic direction. All very easily found and adjusted. The most recent update added a Gallery function and I’d like to request 3 options for the next release. -Can you add a multi selection option for exporting videos from the gallery?-Can you add a simple thumb slide for deleting media in the gallery?-Most IMPORTANT please add an option in gallery to automatically save videos in your photo rolls as the app used to do. Like the addition of the gallery but the additional steps to upload to my photos library takes quite some time, especially with multiple videos. Thanks!
Can’t be relied upon (anymore)
Update: It’s become unreliable. Apart from the level to make sure the shot is straight, I can’t recommend it anymore. I’ve had long sets ruined because the app just stops recording. This is after a reinstall. It used to be solid as a rock. I’ll stick with Filmic Pro. This app is very helpful in that it allows the mic gain of the MV88 to be controlled via the app and not have to switch to the default audio Shure MV app. Also, the peak meters are a welcome addition too (previously I used Filmic or Impact for the meters) but this is tailor made for the hardware. All in all, big thanks to the Shure team for a great piece of hardware and the standalone video app. Will update review after more usage and comment on any room for improvement.
No longer working with latest iOS
The app is no longer working with the latest iOS 16.4 despite the fact that company claims it works with iOS 14 and later. Company rep did not think this is a critical issue and this will not be addressed.Company said they update the app every few weeks but AppStore shows the last update was released 5months agoSome other issues with the app are listed below but it’s no longer matter since it is not working and 3 months after purchase I can’t use it nor return it.This app has great potential but pls work on multiple bugs that this app has…it’s your product after all so show you care. I’m using it with Shure 88MV+ kit 1. App is out of synch. Set it up and disconnect. On the reconnect gain is no longer at the same lvl 2. Mobile screen size on iPad. No progression from vertical to horizontal 3. App hangs when mic gets disconnected. Needs to restart the app…and out of sync issue kicks in again ☹️ 4. Some basic video editing wouldn’t hurt I’m a QA, hire me and I will help make your product better
File Transfer Issue
Whenever I record a longer video the app won’t transfer it to my photo library on my phone. I know there are trouble shooting options involving connecting to a computer, but i think its pretty lame that that’s the only solution. I feel like that could be addressed better by developers. Also the suggested work arounds, so far, have not worked for me so I'm stuck with video that is only viewable in the Motiv app.All that being said, I do appreciate the quality of recordings and the intuitive/extensive settings options that the app offers, and i love the mv88+ for what it is (do wish it was capable of live streaming without interference noise from cell data but i get that’s not the intended application for this device).I hope developers can resolve this one caveat because none of the recording quality or app intuitiveness matters if I can’t use the videos I take outside the motiv video app conveniently. If I wanted to plug something into my computer to transfer files, I would have opted for a standalone handheld recording device.

I love this app I don’t know why some people have trouble with it other than it is probably their device I record sets well over the 2 he mark daily and it’s the only app that allows my picky iphone11 to verify the external mic is working and monitor my input levels while always giving me 4K quality. I was using obs studios with multiple cameras on my Mac but grab this now instead it’s got way better audio than my m audio interface
Menu button missing and cannot retrieve video
I recorded an 18 minutes interview last week with an artist and the moment I stopped the recording the app crashed and rebooted my iPhone 12 Pro Max and the recording never got saved onto Camera Roll. It just stuck inside the app with no functions and options to save it or get it out of the app. The Mac finder wouldn’t recognize the app and so the files cannot be downloaded like how you download the files from the audio app. I tried and do another recording in an attempt to resolve it and now that recording seems to have overrode my original interview recording and I worry it may now be lost forever. The menu button mentioned by the manual does not exist on the app at all. There’s no way I can redo the interview now. Until the bugs are resolved I highly suggest that you use MoviePro instead.
lost my work too... unreliable
I wish I’d read more reviews on this because I had the same issue of a recording not saving onto my camera roll (some sort of recording error) and I ended up losing some important work. I could still replay it in the app temporarily but the exporting didn’t work and after I did another test recording, I think my phone overwrote the file with the new recording and there was no existing menu option or anything where I could access/export the previous lost recording (i tried to email it to myself after a pop up came up but the email itself was empty with no attachments. It’s just gone). Beware guys! Just in case I would enable “iOS screen recording” from your control center so worst case scenario if you can play the video, you can brute-force record it on your screen at least and save yourself the hassle with some sort of workaround.other than that I want to suggest adding a “pause recording” button or “save draft” or something since these are constrained by phone battery life too. I can barely get over an hour’s footage on mine before needing to recharge
Love it!!
I first got the app a few months ago and was disappointed and deleted it. However, I don’t know if there has been an update since then or what but when I re-downloaded it recently it was AMAZING! This app is the only thing that has been able to accurately record my voice with video! It’s a life saver for any low-budget musician and I highly recommend it!
Battery...
First off, I really love the mic and ability to change polarity. I use it all the time. However, you can only record for as long as the battery is charged. That really bums me out. Shows are longer than 45min. It would be nice if they made a battery pack that could go in between the lightning and phone. Also, I’ve found it doesn’t work with the other applications... bummer. So like if I’m zoom calling, FaceTime, or live streaming to FB, IG, or anything like that, the little light on the mic is orange but never green. I’d love to have great sound for and in ALL applications that use my phones mic. When I plug in my MV88, that should now become the “default” mic. That make 100% total sense. Can you update to that? And I’ll give you a million stars and buy like 6more. And tell all my friends. Sincerely, SM58 user, SM57 user, SM55 user, Shure wireless user. Thanks.
