Another brilliant piece of storytelling by the twisted minds at rusty lake

The puzzles are more compact this time around, but it doesn't make them any easier - they always seem to find the perfect balance of challenging and thought provoking very nicely. The story adds so much information to the rusty lake series which I loved every moment of...this one is probable less scary, but it can be very disturbing at times which I always love. The story ties a lot together from their previous games, so recommend playing those first and you will understand this so much better and give you that 'ooohhhh - no way!' factor/reaction. Plus, once you 'beat' the game there's extra secrets/content with some REALLY challenging puzzles, but it's always satisfying and worth it...plus these guys are nice enough to put a link in the game right to a walkthrough if you ever get stuck...another brilliant story told rusty lake style, and I can't wait for their next game in the series which they say will be out sometime soon!

From a Cube Escape Enthusiast...

This game is worth every penny. It is much longer than RL's other pay to play: Hotel. This was charming, dark, and definitely added some interesting bits to the Rusty Lake lore. It was creepy but not scary, and the puzzles were interesting. I wish that it would've been a little scarier, but it did not ruin the experience. My only real complaint is that when you do the bonus content afterward, you get nothing for it. I was under the impression that collecting the medals would get me some lore but it didn't give me anything.I still consider this game money well spent, and I recommend playing the Cube Escape games as well.

Wow!

I previously wrote a review for one of the games in this series (the birthday one) without realizing the games were all connected because I had only played the first - I wrote feeling it was too violent. The suddenness of the storyline (the birthday one) took me way off guard since I didn’t know it was a part of a much larger story. However, after playing through all of the games and finishing off with this one, I’m completely blown away by the level of intricacy and detail invested in this series. I’m actually preparing to go through a grieving process knowing I’m all caught up on them, knowing I’ll have to wait for the white door to continue my infatuation, and knowing that after that, I’ll have to wait for more to be released (if that even happens - ahhh! 😱. Excellent series - I highly recommend!

Best one yet.

I’ve played most of the rusty lake games and this one is my favorite so far. I plan on buying all the rest of their games after this. I see people putting these games down and I just don’t get it. Everything about the games is, at the very least, more interesting than most other games of this genre. Great stories, artwork, puzzles, etc. Also, thanks a lot to the developers. It’s really good of you to have put out so many great (and 100% free) games. I respect that a lot and will continue to support you in the future because of that fact. I don’t mind paying, though. I’ve played for free for a long time now and I appreciate that. The games are fantastic. If you have doubts about buying the games, there’re plenty to try out for free to get the feel of how the mechanics work. And not just 1 or 2 levels, full games. That’s a rarity anymore.

Escape the room type game, eh.

At the heart of this game is Escape the Room type puzzles. It’s probably the best of them if you like those games. I particularly don’t. It’s strong points are that it’s got a back drop macabre storyline where the story does move forward in the background as you proceed and while many of the puzzles are different than most and more interesting, it’s still ridden with click-fest mentality bordering on ridiculous room entities such as wood planks that slide up and down a window but aren’t removable but they slide freely as if they’re magically there. You also have puzzles where you need a combination and all you have to do is click some wall picture to get it. To me, that’s not a puzzle, it’s a click-fest. Some are more clever than that but the pattern is there. Escape fans will delight while old-time adventure gamers will turn their noses.

Incredible game series!

I can’t even begin to describe the mind blowing wonderful joy of these games. I’ve played all of them, gifted them to friends and family, and they’ve seriously blown every single other game/app out of the water. The creativity of these designers is insane. My only complaint: there aren’t enough stories! My life feels incomplete now that I’ve done them all. Please please please keep making more of them!! I could rave for days, but this should get my point across. You will not regret purchasing these. For beginners, start with Rusty Lake Paradise. I think it’s the most intriguing of them all.

All time favorite series

I should write a review for each individual game they’ve released in this Cube escape/Rusty Lake series, but there are just too many, so I’m leaving my review here on perhaps my favorite of the bunch. These games are quite simply the best puzzle games I’ve ever played. The story is intriguing and bizarre and mysterious, the puzzles are just the right amount of challenging, the design and art are astounding and often slightly grotesque, which is always fun. Most of the games are free too, but the paid ones are totally worth the cost, 100 percent. I will continue to buy these games for as long as they keep putting them out. They are literally ALL good, every single one, and they seem to be getting better and better. Please keep up the good work team!

My fave Rusty Lake game / reset explained

This game is really one of the best but I am stuck at level 22; I inadvertently moved the bandages off screen and now I cannot complete the game because there seems no way to get them back. I am afraid if I reset that the entire game will start over? I tried to contact support but they told me to check the walk through. If I can un-stick this problem I’ll bump my rating up to 5 stars because otherwise this truly is one of the best games around. Just wish I could complete it!Edit: Rusty Lakes support person told me that if you choose to reset from within a level it gives you the option to reset just that level or the entire game. So... problem solved! Now that I’ve finished all the RL games I am hoping there will be a new one in the near future.

I DO NOT want this ride to end

In all fairness I’m writing this review before having finished “Roots.” I am a little over halfway through, and am parceling out the remaining chapters like pillow mints, one or two a day to make the experience last - and that ain’t easy, kid. “Roots” has everything...and more. Superb puzzles that feel organic in moving the story along. And what a story - replete with well-crafted characters whose motives and emotions are so bizarrely human. And all achieved without dialogue, only through unique artwork and audio effects. Perhaps it is inaccurate to think of “Roots,” (or any of the Cube escapes) as devastatingly dark comedy, but I do chuckle while I shudder. And the gleeful anticipation I had before playing this game could’ve led to disappointment. But I really should know better than to worry about a letdown when Rusty Lake’s involved. Silly me.

Amazing. A...mazing.

These are my new favorite escape-room-style games. I’ve binge-played the Cube/Rusty Lake games this week, and I’m sad that there’s only one left. Creepy; surprising and occasionally *shocking*; an absorbing storyline; a good mix of easy, medium, and hard puzzles; and a bottomless mythology surrounding the family and their ancestral home. There is *nothing* like this in the app store. Every chapter answers questions raised in previous episodes, then creates brand new mysteries that make you want to play the next episode immediately. This series is like The Shining + Edward Gorey + Twin Peaks + The Room. (The game, not the movie.) The first episode grabbed me immediately, and the episodes have only gotten *better*. Do yourself a favor and go download the first Cube Escape Game. You won’t regret it.
