Beware / data usage

This app gets online to compile your program. They even tell you about the history of R without giving this important fact. And it is slow because of that.

Better get an ssh client instead

This is ridiculous; pay per compile or pay to unlock unlimited compiles, which requires an internet connection?python, ipython, lua, LaTeX and others have been ported to iOS to compile and run natively. R is lagging seriously behind. Sadly, I don't think this is going to be the environment which results in it getting caught up.

Good but needs some work.

I'm using R Language to tutor a student for Biostatistics, which uses R. Although the support is quick, this iPad version should be improved by a programmer who has professional knowledge of R. Many of the functions are creating errors when they shouldn't. I'm a little disappointed.

Unreliable

"The program executed perfectly"....yet I don't see anything. Why create an app and make people pay for compilations like I did, just so it it can frustrate users with its unreliability. Thanks for taking the time to develop this neat looking app, but it's simply garbage if it doesn't function as it should.

Why bother?

You may get some reference value for basic R, but they want you to pay per compile/run. I can do that for free with less hassle most any other time: in fact an iPhone is a grossly inconvenient way to do/learn R. Why add to this cost. Try a minimal ad-paid model instead.

Compiler?

This program worked great last week, but now it doesn't work. I get a comment that says "please update application" when I try to use it. There is no update, and I bought the unlimited version for $2.99.

Don't bother

This thing can't graph or run libraries and I need this to work for a class. I don't even know if I'm more mad at the app writer or just Apple in general. It always seems like Apple could care less about the iPad users who are actually trying to get work done. I blame myself for buying this stupid thing instead of a dell laptop where I can run R studio for a fraction of the price of a MacBook.

No graphics

R programmers expect the plot() function to plot graphics. If nothing else in R works, this ought to. But it doesn’t. To be fair, the App Store description says so, but I didn’t read that till afterwards, and never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that graphics would not be supported. I even spent a few bucks on unlimited compilations before discovering this to be the case.

Worst app I've ever paid

Totally agreed with the comment above. I tried to run the simplest 1+1, it takes ages to run, and in the end it gives an error, saying the request was delayed. I didn't know nothing will run until I pay the $2.99 fee, with the hope that it will compile and run. I sent App Store a "report a problem", hoping that I could get a refund. Will update if I do.

Great App!

I am writing a compiler that targets many languages and this app is ideal for my purposes. Keep up the good work!

Description

The classic R programming language for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Programming language is a perfect tool for studying, complex mathematical calculation, entertainment and many other useful tasks. The application is especially useful for learning the R programming language.

You have to buy compilations inside the application. Internet connection is required. - The great programming tool on the AppStore. - Your programming language for iOS is amazing! * FEATURES * - Compile and run your program. - Text input before program run and text output. - Enhanced source code editor with syntax highlighting, line numbers, color themes and additional keyboard. - Online language reference and several program samples. * LIMITATIONS * - Internet connection is required to compile and run a program. - Graphics, network, file system and real-time input are not supported. - Maximum running time of a program is 15 seconds. - Plotting is not supported at this moment. Thanks for using the application! ==================================== R is a programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics. The R language is widely used among statisticians for developing statistical software and data analysis. R is an implementation of the S programming language combined with lexical scoping semantics inspired by Scheme. S was created by John Chambers while at Bell Labs. R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and now, R is developed by the R Development Core Team, of which Chambers is a member. R is named partly after the first names of the first two R authors (Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka), and partly as a play on the name of S. R is part of the GNU project. The source code for the R software environment, which is written primarily in C, Fortran, and R. R is freely available under the GNU General Public License, and pre-compiled binary versions are provided for various operating systems. R uses a command line interface; however, several graphical user interfaces are available for use with R. R provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques, including linear and nonlinear modeling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, and others. R is easily extensible through functions and extensions, and the R community is noted for its active contributions in terms of packages. There are some important differences, but much code written for S runs unaltered. Many of R's standard functions are written in R itself, which makes it easy for users to follow the algorithmic choices made. For computationally intensive tasks, C, C++, and Fortran code can be linked and called at run time. Advanced users can write C or Java code to manipulate R objects directly. R is highly extensible through the use of user-submitted packages for specific functions or specific areas of study. Due to its S heritage, R has stronger object-oriented programming facilities than most statistical computing languages. Extending R is also eased by its permissive lexical scoping rules. According to Rexer's Annual Data Miner Survey in 2010, R has become the data mining tool used by more data miners (43%) than any other. Another strength of R is static graphics, which can produce publication-quality graphs, including mathematical symbols. Dynamic and interactive graphics are available through additional packages. R has its own LaTeX-like documentation format, which is used to supply comprehensive documentation, both on-line in a number of formats and in hard copy.
