Two birds with one stone

I love this app because I finally accomplish a long standing bucket list item, reading the classics, while maintaining my extra languages. The app works great. I’m just a bit confused on where the words that you save in your notes show up. That would be cool if they popped up as flashcards or in someway that could be exported to Anki.

Great

Really awesome app i am enjoying it a lot. Easy way to reinforce vocabulary effortlessly while enjoying a book. It would be nice to be able to download a book for use offline, as when i am without internet (for instance on a plane) the app frequently logs me out and you cant log back in without internet access. Overall though great idea and execution and highly recommend to readers who are studying a second language.

Loving it so far

I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of books available. You can pick the level you consider to be in the new language. I picked “very low” so I’m being introduced slowly and that works great for me. The book lets us stay on the pronunciation and replay as many times as we need. I think this is going to help my Spanish, and I would be reading the book anyway.

Not what I hoped for

The premise is brilliant. I have three issues. I am learning Arabic. 1) even at low level the phrases are sometimes quite long. Shorter phrases or single words would be best at low level (I know enough to know the word boundaries are very different in this language). 2. The transliterated text should follow the pronunciation precisely. When the trailing hamarbatu is pronounced “h” it should not be written as “t”. 3. Arabic fonts are not scaled proportionally to English — the script may be the same point size, but it is naturally tighter and smaller. Arabic fonts should be scaled 1/8 larger for legibility

Can’t access

I signed up today and carefully entered my email and password to sign into the page to purchase books after trying the sample, but I keep getting a wrong password error. I tried the lost password link, but the same issue happened again. There is no contact link for help with these technical issues, just a FAQ list that doesn’t apply to the situation. I really want to try this app, but I seem to have no access.

Love the app, but I would love this added feature!

Fascinating app! Only I wish that for the languages that do not use the English alphabet, that there would be an option to toggle the text to be readable in the alphabet without having to click the word to pull it up with the sounding and all that as well. I would be buying so many books of that feature was added!

Great to Practice Reading

I’ve really enjoyed the Prismatext books to help me learn German. They’ve also added more recently published books for some variety from classics. I’ve had one issue and it was quickly resolved by their fantastic team! Can’t say enough good things and I’m excited to see how they grow.

Good but always room to improve

So far I’ve had the app about a week. It doesn’t have the widest range of books yet, but it’s still a decent range. There was a point when it was a little glitchy, I contacted support and they not only responded quickly they got the problem resolved the same day. I would like if when learning a language it put in more of that language. Maybe make it so once we’ve seen a word once in our chosen language don’t let it appear in the original language we’re reading in again. I also wish that if I’m reading a second book then words I learned in the first were already translated to the language I’m learning but not sure that aspect is possible. Overall it’s been a good experience.

Wonderful concept, but needs work!

I think this is a great way to improve vocabulary. Unlike LingQ, it’s gradual learning, and you can choose how much you want to learn as well. But the translations, they’re done too much without context. Especially languages like French and Spanish, a lot of it is contextual, and I’ve had to submit a lot of feedback (feminine vs masculine in sentences, and speech). It almost feels like they Google translate a few phrases here and there or translate each individual sentence or word without keeping it natural. I’ve had to look in ChatGPT and DeepL to translate phrases that seemed off to me. Maybe I’m missing the process, but that has been a little bit of a turn off from the app, seeing how different the responses are from Prismatext, but how similar the translations are to each other in the two other applications. I still love the concept though and I’m hoping they keep improving the app! I love being able to read stories in another language.

Good App, Would love to See Full Multilingual textbook

While I like the gradual vocabulary building approach, I do wish there were an option to see the book fully in the other language with accompanying translations - maybe a “toggle” where you can switch between “gradual reading” mode & “full immersion” mode? I’m 90% fluent in Dutch, & would be able to read a full book in that language; with the ability to just tap on a word (in my case I just look it up) of which I do not know the meaning. An example of what I’m talking about is the app DuChinese (which is excellent for Chinese language learning). I’m glad to see there’s another app that uses books to teach a language; looking forward to seeing future developments! I’m currently learning German & was frustrated being unable to find a good reading resource for that language. I also like that you can simply buy the book & have it; I can’t really stand subscriptions. The e-reader functions well. Thanks!

Description

"Learning a language is hard. Studying a foreign language requires hundreds of hours in a time-starved world. Prismatext meets you where you are, and offers an effortless method for learning a language: recreational reading!

Using an innovative method called ""diglot weave,"" Prismatext books blend foreign words and phrases into classic literature for context-based language learning. At the start of a Prismatext book, you'll be reading in English. Very shortly thereafter, you'll be reading in English and a little bit of your target language. Prismatext will begin replacing words and phrases with their translations—not too many, of course, but enough for you to notice. If you get stuck, give the words a tap to bring up their footnote: you'll find their meaning there, as well as a way to hear those same words spoken. The more you read, the more new words you'll discover. Prismatext introduces new words incrementally, allowing you to grow your vocabulary gradually. As you go, you may find yourself using the footnotes less and less. You'll be introduced to—and learn—hundreds of new words and phrases. By the end of the book, you may not even need the footnotes. And if you do, that's fine. Every great journey needs footnotes. ========== PRISMATEXT WORKS • Numerous peer-reviewed studies from around the world agree: diglot weave is one of the most effective learning methods for foreign language vocabulary retention • Beginners welcome! The Prismatext experience is seamless and effortless ========== LEARN 15 LANGUAGES Arabic, Chinese (simplified), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish YOUR PACE Read at exactly the same speed you would a standard book USEFUL VOCABULARY Prismatext analyzes each book individually, and selects useful words and phrases from each one HEAR IT SPOKEN In-app audio pronunciations keep you from guessing how words sound SAVE IMPORTANT WORDS Hang on to notable translations and their context in the book, or share them with friends REGULAR UPDATES Prismatext books improve with time.
