works extremely well, but NOT free

The app works extremely well. I have never found another app like this to actually work at all, while this one works perfectly. The first 3 plants were volunteers in my yard and it helped me correctly identify all of them. I am very happy with the results. Only reason not putting 5 stars is I hate when apps pretend to be free only to be essentially unusable without paying. Not sure if I would pay to upgrade because with the amount of paywalls and self promotion I don’t expect the paid version to be free of annoying interruptions

What happened?

I used to rave about this app. It was quick precise easy to use and I didn’t mind paying for it every month. Now when I try to use it I get an ad wanting me to subscribe for one month one year or one week and I can’t get it to identify plants without having to get that screen every time and struggle to get rid of it. I finally gave up and subscribed to the one month and it said you already have a subscription and it kept going back for me to hit the continue button and when I did I kept getting the ad. Disappointed!

Excellent app! IDs are limited though

This is a great reference guide. Extremely easy to use. The results are super quick and accurate. Way easier than keying it out in a field guide (although that’s always fun to do when time allows) 🙂4 stars instead of 5: I’m not sure how many IDs are allowed on the free version., but I do know at some point it will make you upgrade to the paid version. I hope the limit of plant IDs resets on a daily basis...if so, this app will definitely become a staple!! I’ll update my review and rating once I find out.

Identified plant accurately

I had wondered about a large plant we had in our yard. By using this app, I found out the name of it. It identified it correctly. I noticed seeds that were sprouting near this plant and wondered if they were part of it. Upon investigating further, I got my answer to that question plus was able to enjoy the plant because I could investigate it more. I also took other pictures of flowers I knew the answer to so I could see if this app could identify them. Sure enough it was right. It also saves the pictures for you.

Useless without subscription

The description indicated that “premium features” would be available with subscribing or paying a fee. However it seems that premium features refer to getting more than 3 uses out of the app. I used the same plant for 3 submissions to see what it was, and it gave me 3 different guesses—none of which were correct. I tried a fourth time using another picture and was not able to use the app anymore. The free version of this app seems only useful if you want to identify a plant 3 times in your life. And even then, the identifications were all wrong. I’m disappointed and deleting this app from my phone. I’d like to know if I have to pay to get use out of an app. Then I can make a decision to pay or not.

Get it now

I've tried every single plant identification app on the app store, this one is the best. I went to the restaurant the other day, and pointed the camera against a lucky bamboo. Not only did this app recognized it immediately, it also showed the Latin name of the plant, which is Pleomele braunii. That's cool! The speed of recognition is amazing - I was on cellular in the restaurant. The only downside, I have to say, is that the detail of each plant could be improved. I'm pretty sure that's an easier job comparing to the amazing identification job the developers have done so far. Great job!

Really nice product

You’ll be very thrilled with this app. The only negative side I have found is you cannot select directly from your personal photos. You have to go into the camera and then select your photo roll. It would be nice to have that option on the front screen as not ever picture looked at will be from the camera. Other than this, it seems to be very accurate (North America is my only area I’ve used this) and gives a fairly accurate suggestion list for a very wide variety of plants, flowers and fungi.

Great app but you have to pay. A lot.

At first I thought I could have at least limited access and that it was optional to pay. I was allowed maybe 3 free identifications. Was very impressed! It takes you to a Wikipedia page. Seems very accurate. Now the app is demanding that I subscribe. I keep hitting a pay wall, requesting $4/month or $30/year. Yowch! I’d be happy to pay a (reasonable) one time fee to “purchase” use of the app, or a more reasonable annual fee (like apps that charge $5/year), because I think the app is awesome, but not $30. Even most magazines, that are mailed to my house, only cost $10/year. If they charged less, they might get more subscribers.

Cannot identify common plants

I don’t remember when I joined but I paid when I joined and then later , don’t know how long , I paid again. Therefore I think I am paid for 2 years. NOTE: plant identifier I have taken several pictures of plants I did not know their correct name and they are not in my collection. There was : Spider fern , false clover (inOxalis family ,Mexican Bird of Paradise , coreopsis - several varieties. Pic not in collection. On the Corepsis- all came back as Marigolds. There is a big difference between Coreopsis and Marigold leaves !! There are a few more that I can’t remember that are not in my collection. I was so excited to get this app as we are into gardening snd always looking for different plants. We have 2 now that we don’t know what are. I hope in the future you can help us more identifying plants AND LEAVE THEM IN MY COLLECTION page. When I take pictures on this app, the picture does not go to “my picture camera roll” so I then lose them. There is one I really want to know about but your app did not register it snd it is not blooming yet, I have some unnamed cuttings !! Thank you and I await a reply with an explanation of why my collection pictures are not there and also what to do when you mis-identify what I sent. EXAMPLE: the difference between Coreopsis and Marigolds. Tks

Works Great

I really don’t ever review apps but making an exception for this one. I tried a lot of the other popular plant identification apps and was disappointed that you either had to subscribe/pay, had a limit, or the results were a bunch of similar looking plants to the one you took a photo of. This app has correctly identified everything I’ve photographed on the first attempt and better yet I don’t have a limit or sign up for a subscription plan. Excellent work Devs, been enjoying learning more about the plants growing around me!
