User Reviews for Lume-X

Useless.

It’s difficult to put in to words how utterly useless this app is. To start, the UI is awful. Once you take a photo, you have to leave the app to see it in photos folder. Oh, about taking photos, have an iPhone 11 or newer? Can’t change focal length. Or if you can, there’s certainly no clear way shown to do this. No matter, it activates the Lume cubes sometimes, if at all. And WHY does my iTunes stop playing when I on the app??Also, when you hit the shutter release, it either has a 3-5 second delay, or it simply doesn’t take the photo at all. Part of the reason I got these cubes what for this apps claimed functionality. Scrap the app and start over.

Works great, needs to connect more lights

I was skeptical at first about this app given other reviews but honestly connecting and using the light through the app is super simple and easy. BUT the big downside is only one light is able to be connected even though the app itself appears to be capable of holding more than one. For example, when connecting a light, there is a screen showing room, labeling the light as “LumeCube1” and a + sign for more lights but no way to connect those lights. If an update can allow more than one light that would make this a 5 star app!

Promising app but needs work.

I have the Lumecube 2.0 and was excited to use the app to adjust the light. The light settings are a bit funky, and can get stuck in a few weird states. When I first adjusted the brightness slider I thought maybe the app just didn’t work at all. Sliding from 20% to 100% and back gave no visible changes to the light at all. Turning it on and off with the toggle worked though. Then I slid down to 7 percent and the light changed. I quickly realized that the slider is setting my light to full power at 10%. The whole thing if off by a power of 10. So 5% is actually 50%, 2% is 20% you get the picture. The jump is pretty jagged. It’s a shame I was hoping for finer tune controls.Hopefully the developer see this and fixes the bug in a future update.

Works, just needs some love!

First off, I got my LumeCubes and I LOVE THEM, so know that I’m already a happy customer! The app is simple and stripped down, which is good for me (I only use it to control the Cubes). One thing that drives me absolutely BONKERS is that whenever I drag left to decrease the intensity sliders it slides in the red Delete bar. I have to be super careful, or quickly drag right first, then left in order to avoid that. I think the app works well but that gives me so much frustration!

Works Great on Cubes,

But it can’t find my GoPro 8 Black! I dunno if this app even Supports the Newer GoPro’s, I would hope so! I do NOT wanna go to the New LUME Cube App, the Reviews are HORRIBLE! Almost every single one of them! Lol, so I’m just need to know if I’m doing something Wrong, or GoPro just “Out Grew” the App?Anyone know? Will this LUME X App work with the GoPro 8 Black? If so, How do I pair them?Thank you! PS: I would give it a 6 Star if my GoPro would Connect! Lol

Massive Potential

Even in 2021, I rely on my LumeCubes because of their portability and quality of light. You can only use LumeCubes as a mobile flash through THIS APP which DOES NOT SUPPORT RAW? This app would be 100X better if I could shoot in RAW. The camera interface deserves an update… adding manual functions like WB control and Shutter Speed would be helpful. The LumeCubes would be waaaaaay more useful for mobile photography if these changes were made.

It functions, but it's inelegant and backward.

The app allows the lights to connect, and you can control them. Fine brightness control is nice, as is the ability to change flashing modes. However, I use these as portable lights for my cameras, not my phone. It seems silly to open it and it's default landing is a camera app. I think it'd be more appropriate to have a default view of connected lights and their controls, with a camera option. The light controls look like they just appear over the camera app view, and it just looks ugly and unrefined.

Product probably good; App & support poor.

The Lume Cube is probably a good product but instead of offering just a tiny bit more detail in the instructions that come with it, you end up having to go to their website which is almost as confusing. They do a good job of convincing you to download this App which supposedly has you sign in and register your product. Did not work for me - all I have is a photo / video screen with a mysterious blinking logo that doesn’t respond when you click on it. Navigation on their site is poor. Someone needs to go back and finish their Marketing degree.

Missing small but important feature

The app syncs with the lights pretty well when flash is firing, that’s pretty impressive. However, unlike the iOS camera app and many other 3rd party camera apps, it doesn’t utilize the volume buttons as physical shutter release. This makes it pretty awkward to take photos if you’re used to your iPhone volume buttons as shutter release and it makes all 3rd party Bluetooth shutter remotes useless since all of them use “volume up/down” to remotely control the shutter on your iPhone camera. I know it’s such a small feature but these little things that people take for granted contribute to the intuitive user experience which this app is lacking so far.

Simple enough, but

It does lack instructions but I found it easy enough to figure out by trial and error. It is basically another camera app that can talk to Lume cubes. Good for an off camera flash option for iPhone. Slow, though, your subject needs to be prepared to be in the light for about a full second. One nice thing is the ability to drive the cube(s) while setting exposure. What is sorely missing is access to iPhone X features like telephoto camera and portrait mode.
