Love Choice Removes Choice

Hey, I’m a huge fan of Voltage. I would literally sing their praises to anyone crazy enough to listen and I’m not afraid to spend on buying their stories. I’ve really loved being able to just purchase a story and read the whole thing instead of waiting like many apps will have you do. I’ve even subscribed. But the new “Love Choice” nonsense they’ve implemented is a hassle and feels like a shameless cash grab. Look, I came here to get away from this microtransaction garbage that other games are constantly trying to subject players to. I don’t want lies about “Read the whole story for free!!!” while they’re forcing you to pay just to play it normally, punishing you very obviously when you take the non-payment route. Even the cash grabby free games let you play the way you’re supposed to so this just feels really sneaky. (It’s also why I haven’t bothered with NTT Solmare’s Story Jar) I don’t plan to drop a cent into this new model and I hope you don’t either. I’d raise my subscription payments rather than buy hearts to use just so I’m not forced to pick the wrong choice on 80% of the choices that come up during a single “free” route.Long story short, I really appreciated the hassle free method of just buying a story and reading the whole thing when I wanted to. “Love Choice” just feels like they’re taking advantage of fans who were already happy to buy their stuff.

Not forthcoming on information and money hungry company

I was subscribed to their emails and though I did get some emails about this app it did not clearly state that you would have to transfer your old apps (that I have already spent money on) to this app BEFORE A CERTAIN DEADLINE. I also don’t get on their Facebook often so I didn’t know until a few days ago. I have lost some of the games (no longer available and were deleted) that I had already paid for and it’s not letting me transfer the ones that I still have that have not yet been deleted. All it says is there is a transfer error. It was not made easy to transfer the apps (there isn’t a clear way to be able to do so on the app for particular apps and even looking at guides online from other players are somewhat convoluted and confusing and some suggest emailing the company for each app) and now would have to re-purchase some as I missed their deadline. If it had been made clear I had to do this way in advance and if it was much easier then maybe I would be more inclined to like this, but it just makes them seem money hungry for the way they went about it. There are other Otome game apps that I can use and will delete all the apps that I have bought from them. I use to love voltage. This is really too bad.

A Vast improvement

I am a returning Voltage customer and am impressed with this new app. It’s been a year since I played their stories but there are some notable immediate improvements- accurate bookmarking down to the sentence, not just chapter. A central location for all apps. Smoother more consistent interface. And no more problems when individual apps are out of date. Plus a new chance to get a few stories for free by doing simple things like logging in every day, which didn’t exist before, and an actual account to make future transfers easier. Navigating does take some getting used to.As for the stories themselves, plots are varied enough to be interesting. Player characters are usually fairly blank slate (no hobbies for example) but there is a diverse amount of datable character types and plot tropes. The plots are notably rife with japanese culture and romantic stereotypes some of which clash with the usa (jealousy and possessive behavior are attractive, smoking is cool, aggressive advances are met with meek acceptance or rescue by a male figure) BUT these exist in all japanese otome games and once accounted for you are left with an enjoyable experience. Plus now that you can download stories you can read on the go without worrying about internet access. Stories can be purchased as a whole too. I definitely recommend this app as an awesome introduction to the mobile otome genre.

end of an era (less melodramatic title: they’re freenium now)

I’ve actually never written a review for any app for the years I’ve used the app store. This one is actually kind of sad, honestly. I’ve been buying Voltage games since the beginning english releases and have never once regretted buying a game even ones with stories I didn’t necessarily like. I can easily say I’ve sunk upper hundreds and far more into the games and I loved every second of it. I’ve been to every Voltage convention panel in my area and even dragged unsuspecting friends into it. When they first had us move to a single app? Whatever, it’s probably more cost efficient so I can’t fault them. The coins? Ok, I guess? I just can’t find myself getting into LoveChoice. I actually did a little math on it after spending the money - it’s about 17ish bucks for a single story (and you can’t even keep the story? LOL) when it was 4-5 dollars before. Now, I know the LoveChoice stories are longer and are well written but are they 20 dollars nicer? I can buy entire games with three characters and 13 endings with 20 dollars AND keep the story and CGs. I would say that I wouldn’t even mind paying around 8 dollars for the LoveChoice games but I can’t find it in myself to buy any of these games anymore. It’s such a blatant cash grab and it kind of blows big time.

has potential, was not ready for launch

TLWR: It has potential and could be really cool but it needs to be worked on and there is a lot of content that still needs to be added.I know a lot of people are being kind of negative but I think this has some real potential and I want them to keep working on this. It needs more content first of all. Some of the new stories they added are nice but not all of the options are available yet and don’t seem to be available until the end of December or next year. This is a terrible idea and they should just put out all the stories at once and add additional content later. Second, the coin idea is nice but there either needs to be a way to gain free coins or just allow people to pay each route. I might be in the minority but I like the idea of having the option to just pay for one chapter. If I just want to buy one chapter for whatever the reason I have that option. You should also be able to buy the whole route but having options is good. Lastly, they need to work on how the V.I.P. Monthly access membership works. Maybe run a promotion where people get a free trial to see how it works. Right now it looks like a mess that isn’t finished. As is it looks risky to pay for it right now because it might not be worth it in the long run.

Transfer data

I’ve been playing voltage games for years now and I’ve always loved their apps and this one is amazing as well. The only problem I have is transferring my data from the stand alone apps over to 365. I don’t even know how to do it and once you miss the deadlines you can’t transfer anymore. All the apps and stories that have built up over the last few years take up a lot of space and I just wish we could transfer whenever we wanted and not have to worry about a time limit. Even like a event once a month or once a year or something where you can transfer anything for a limited time would be helpful, at this point I might pay a dollar or two to be able to transfer everything over. Other then that I love this app and it’s really great to not miss any new stories and to not have to always download different apps as they come out because it’s all on one app. Also, there is features on this app that you won’t get on stand alone apps, like being able to download stories you buy to read off online I love that especially because of my slow internet. If you like voltage I think this app is a must personally.

Love the stories, hate the new format

I’m a long time voltage fan (been playing for about 6 or 7 years), and I have to say I love the newer stories so much. Before it felt like a lot of the basic plots were recycled, especially in epilogues and sequels, but now they seem to be more catered to the characters. I also love that the protagonist has gotten more and more independent over the years. That being said, I don’t like the Love 365 format especially since the most recent update. Since the update, the app has become confusing to navigate and I find myself reaching for it less and less. I like the idea of all of them being on one app, but I hate that I couldn’t figure out a way to take my game info from my other apps and put it into the new app. I’m not sure if there even was a way to do so, and now that the old apps have been officially shut down I can’t even go reread stories. I’ve been wanting to reread some stories since it’s been so long since I started playing, but I don’t want to have to pay for them again. I also hate the loves choice games and really wish there was an option for a one-time payment to play all the chapters like with other games. Overall, I love voltage and will probably keep supporting the company, but I kind of miss the older layout of this app and I miss being able to reread old stories.

Love this app

I’m an avid reader, so for me the story part of the Otome “games” has always been the draw for me. With this app I can just buy the story I want, (most of the time lol except for LC) & read it on my own time. With my work schedule this works out amazingly. They have sales on coins & hearts so I can stocked up & more sales on different games, at holidays & different categories. I love the VIP room section bc the stories earned there are just fun, playful 😈 & give me details about the characters. Overall this app is a really good value for the $$. Only thing I do not like is the “Love Choice” stories so I choose not to spend my money on them. Even though some of the titles & characters seems interesting I can’t justify the cost. Instead of $4-$5 a main story it can be 2-3 times that and the fact that they can not be reread without meeting certain requirements etc just makes them not worth it to me. If you have extra time & $$ then you might be able to earn that collectors edition but I tried twice & with my work hours I just couldn’t in time so I gave up. Other then LC I highly recommend this app. The variety of characters & storylines makes this worth every bit of the cost but even if your a F2P type of person this is a good app for you bc they offer free full main stories every month & they change so 👍 give this app a try. It’s worth it.

honestly super disappointed with the new content

I used to love this app bunches and have been playing their titles since 2014. But then they moved everything to one app giving player very little time to transfer stories already bought. And on top of that they’ve implemented a new system called Loves Choice which they market as free. It is not, in case your wondering. These stories actually cost like 20 dollars more than their other main stores because you have to accumulate 150 “hearts” for a happy ending. And there is no option to just pay with coins instead of using this tedious system that makes you not only pay more if you want a happy ending but wait longer, because if you don’t read a new story when it first comes out you have to wait around 6ish hours to read the next part, you also cannot read certain episode you have to read in order, from beginning to end every time. All of their new stories have been Loves Choice and it’s honestly turned me off of this app so much, it feels like they don’t really care about their consumers anymore blatantly marketing something thing as free when it is not. I wish hey would stop with this system and allow player to use coins again, or at least coins instead of Loves Choice. If you were looking to get into this app the old stories aren’t bad but the newer ones just aren’t worth it.

I wanted to hate it, but... it's not half bad.

I'll start by saying I was fully prepared to hate this app. When you open it up you can tell it has potential but it's rough around the edges. I went through it and was a bit disappointed. But then I found myself going back to the app again and again, scrolling through the free episodes. One thing about Voltage that keeps you coming back is their stories. Though the collection is small right now, the stories are definitely quality. And that's what keeps you hooked. Their selection of free titles is amazing. They don't skimp on the good stuff just because it's free. Next thing you know you're spending money. I prefer the coins option because I don't have to make multiple transactions for each story and the possibility of accumulating free coins is there. Their monthly subscription is on the right track, but with a savings of only a few dollars, the perks aren't really worth it yet. The VIP room is still in development so maybe that will up the ante. It's definitely a step in the right direction and I'll be keeping an eye on it's development. In the end, I have to concede that I really enjoy this app and can understand it's benefits to readers like me who want to spend a bit here and there when I have extra but still want to enjoy free stories without having to come back every day for 5 chapters worth. It has a lot of good things and lots of room for improvement. Don't count Voltage out just yet!
