Great app

I love this app one suggestion would be to try and team up with other language learning apps so people can review what they are learning rather then random wordsThey haven’t studied yet but even without a feature like that this app will helpYou learn words and phrases overall I’d recommend it as a tool to help you learn on the go

Worth your time, worth your $$$

First of all, I am in Beijing right now, improving my Chinese at LTL School, a terrific outfit. Do I have time to do Drops? Not really, because we have so much homework to do each day. Does Drops care? Yes, they remind me every day that five minutes is no big deal, and they are right... So, I do Drops for 10 minutes, and it actually helps in my homework, especially studying the radicals. The new version of Drops is so much better organized that it even recognizes where I stopped the last time, so I can pick up where I left off. Topics are now organized in top categories, a much easier way to access learning by vocabulary groupings. In the past year, this team has made countless improvements, each focused on the user’s best learning strategies. The addition of writing characters while studying them is a major asset to this app. Here and there, I —sometimes— still see small discrepancies between the voice pronouncing the character and the written Pinyin. I trust the Drops team to correct those promptly, as their response time has always been swift. And sometimes I learn that there are more than one way of pronouncing a character.Try the app for a while, yes, just 5-10 minutes a day, and you will be surprised how the combination of auditive, visual and written prompts helps you actually retain the studied characters in long-term memory. Great job, Drops Team! I’m genuinely happy —and proud— I decided to be a “Forever” user!

Nice!

Have been using the app for short time so far. Got the lifetime version of Chinese, here are some tips for the developers that could improve the app and buying it.1. I couldn’t tell how big the vocabulary inside of the app is. When testing it on the free category, it told me I am 50% through, when I only learned 13 words. That made me think the overall amount of words inside is maybe not large. Would be great if it was mentioned somewhere to know what one is buying.2. For learning Chinese the sound/pronunciation seem crucial. I am a male, but can only use female voice with rather higher pitch to listen to and repeat after. There is male option in the settings but it didn’t change anything. Male voice would be great to have.3. Long list of categories- would love if I can long- press the category to move them around. I would move the ones i want to learn first up in the list, so I don’t have to look for them always. Just some thoughts of mine. Overall the app is fun and seems a great tool for learning. Thank you!

Review

The repetition of the words is what makes it worth it. Repetition is SUPER useful when it comes to studying something, and when you're dedicated to learning a new language, it is very useful. The only thing is that you have for such a long time to teach another 5 minutes after 6 more hours of waiting time...and I'm not willing to pay $160 to pay for unlimited foreign language teachings. I'll still give this app a 5/5 though.

So far so good.

Have only had my first session so not sure of limitations but I like it so far. A few others struggled with either grammar issues or pronunciation. My partner is a native Mandarin speaker with a very good handle on dialects so she can pinpoint when language apps use a different dialect than hers which is fine or when they get it wrong (Pimsleur and duo lingo). I hope this is more than just a word game app and will teach me how to use the words I’m using in actual speaking or writing.

Pretty useful

This is app is very useful. It doesn’t classify you by hsk(which makes it harder in my opinion) but classifies(words) by category. This is a vocabulary app that gives you enough time each day to practice and remember over a long period of time. It does not force learners to pay for their learning (unless they want more time). Very helpful and not pushy. Thanks developers!

Good app

This is a fun app to learn vocabulary! It combines pictures and sounds to help you learn new words very quickly and easily, and it has a great built-in review system (including the Dojo, which quizzes you on words you’re having trouble with). Did the curious membership go away? I went ahead and bought a year long subscription, although there is just one option now instead of three. I noticed a couple minor problems, could you fix them please, drops? EditThank you, Drops, for fixing the 厌恶的 pronunciation problem!! :D1. In the category “airport”, “scale” is translated 天枰. It should be 天平. 2. In the category "religion", 基督教 is 1st tone, 1st tone, 4th tone, “ji1 du1 tu4”, not “ji1 du4 tu4”. If there’s any way for you to fix these tone mistakes, please do. Chinese is a tonal language and one little change in tone can change a word’s meaning, so I always try to learn the right tones. Thank you!

Beautiful app w/ 1 caveat

Great App, smooth graphic architecture, overall pleasant to look at, well colored. Before using this app, I was 100% new to Mandarin. This app provides a great learning environment, Drops also implements intuitive and intelligent teaching strategy. Including miniature illustrations of the meanings, enumerated stroke order, and also kanxji-image matching exercises. I enjoy this app and find it to be objectively a well made and effective tool. I have learned almost 200 words over the last 4 months while in school full time and working a part time job as well. I recommend this app to anyone looking to learn mandarin or any other non conventional type language, such as Korean or Arabic My main complaint is that this app has no:-Search function for specific words-Ask stroke order function(allowing for searching the stroke order of a specific word or phase)-No expanded meaning of words, no information on words roots, alternative meanings and uses etc.

Great App For Re-enforcing Vocab

The major thing I love about this app is that because you can only use it for 5 mins twice a day at most, when you’ve use the app long enough. You really start to maintain your knowledge of the words if you’ve gone over that word enough times. It helps you associate the words to pictures and it makes memorization easy. However, don’t except to become fluent in the language with this app alone, my suggestion would be to use this along side to supplement your learning in an effort to expand your vocab! For that it’s great! And really fun!

Almost there

Well put together, and more fun than most education ‘games’. The only issues I see is flexibility in tailoring the UI to a user’s preference. I’d like to be able to switch off the pinYin, and just have the tones displayed, or make the pinYin smaller or more transparent. I find myself reading that, instead of the Chinese character, but it’s a huge jump to just turn it off. Also choosing the characters you’d like to study would be nice, or the ability to adjust the frequency that known words show up. I’d like words I get wrong to show up more. Also, (and this is big for me) add a category for HSK. Currently, there are the standard ones “shopping, travel, dining, hotel, etc”But for what it does do, it does very well. I have already recommended it to friends.
