User Reviews for hip: Birthday Reminder App

4
hip.

Third review: Raising back to 4 stars as the developers FINALLY listened to the negative feedback regarding the icon and name change and allowed users to chose the app icon they wished. Now if they allowed the cake icon to be labeled B-Days as it was before the upgrade to “hip” it would get 5 stars from me. I still fail to see what they hoped to gain by their initial action and obstinate refusal to listen to the criticism of their users. Still the best B-Day app with unique gift suggestions. Second review: Lowering my rating another star as the developer doesn’t seem to lister to users. Click on “Most recent” reviews and the majority complain about the icon/name change. I think it’s time for a change. There is Birthday Reminder Pro+ on the App Store. Less money and a higher rating...and the icon has balloons and the word “Birthdays” on it. First review: The app icon of a B-Day cake and candle made sense....the icon of a winking hippopotamus with “hip.” under it does not. And the need to call oneself hip displays a lack of hipness. I’m dropping a star because of the icon change. That said...It is the best birthday app I’ve used or seen. And the gift suggestions the app offers are very “hip.” It removes the step of using a search engine for “unique and useful gifts with a range of prices.”Change the app icon and keep up the good work.

Average at best

This app is not free so don’t believe what you read. My previous birthday app worked great except the developer got greedy so out it went. Now hip is here. After installing the app it only captured about a third of the info from my contacts. The remaining info I had to manually enter. The reminders work about half the time. No phone support so you’re at the mercy of email. And it gets tiring to be told that I didn’t set it up correctly. Or I should have done it this way and not that way. There are no instructions on the use of this app. Carefully adding birthdays and anniversaries to iCal works just as well.

Bug and Another Issue

There is a slight bug. If you expect the reminder to occur right at midnight that is not happening. During the months of Jan, Feb, Nov and Dec the reminder indicates 1 hour later than if the birthday was one of the other remaining months. Also, why would it not allow future dates? For example, if i am adding in a retirement date as my special day I cannot do it since I cannot go beyond 2018. Or what if I want to make my daughter's graduation in 4 years a special date to remember? It would be nice also if the days to someone's birthday allows you to select not just 61 days but 2 months - 1 day. Should be an option to make this app better.

Confused...

This looks like a fairly nice app - a clean UI, and I assume it does what it’s supposed to do. But 5 contacts in and I’ve already reached the pre-upgrade limit. Look, I’m all for people getting paid for their work. I expect this app to cost something. But $20 or a monthly subscription service...This is a date tracker, right? Similar to the other date trackers on here that cost much less? Am I totally missing something? This app has great reviews so I’m clearly in the minority... But there’s not many times I’ve been confronted with the prospect of spending $20 on any app. I guess I’ll keep my Facebook which does birthday reminders for free.

Bugs

Hi,Big fan of the app. I think I found a bug I wanted to share. To be specific, once I search a friend’s name on the list of names I’ve imported from from FB cal, and click the checkbox, and click “Done”, the “Add” button remains unclickable. Only after I try clicking a random birthday below and unclicking does the add button reappear. I’m wondering if this is only an iPhone 7 problem. Furthermore, the app would be greatly enhanced if you guys could somehow solve the problem of “move the FB birthday cal link to your phone in any way” because it really impacts the UX the way it is (although I know theres not a currently available mobile solution to access the .ics file). But thought I’d share these! Finally, the Contact Us button doesn’t work for “send”. Wish it was easier to contact for feedback!

Birthdays

I have the Birthdays app and had worked hard to put all my friends dates and photos and suddenly, when you changed to HipnI cannot open the modified app and I am missing to remember all the Birthdays dates I have there. Try to download again and does not work either but you collected already the money for my subscription that I was paying monthly. PlePlease disregard this message. You answered with help advise and issue is fixed. Hope from now o I have a reliable app. Thank you.

Works

App works. I would like to see the ability to just add ONE entry from my contacts apps to the list of birthdays. If I add the contacts list, it adds ALL of them, THEN I have to delete the majority. I need the capability to add only ONE from contacts that pull data by keying in name. I work with customers who change monthly. Therefore, the reason why I only need access to certain name’s data without having to manually key it if it’s not showing in the list. Thanks.

The best

This is my first review ever, but I wanted to write it to congratulate the Hip team for their accomplishment. I always had trouble keeping track of important birthdays, and would periodically go through the awkwardness of forgetting to wish someone in my circle a happy one. Hip has enabled me to offload the cognitive task of remembering birthdays and track them from a single source of truth, with a beautiful UI.As a suggestion, the gift idea feature can be better tailored for people. Maybe you can prompt users to add some keywords that represent the interests of the birthday person, and show results and similar products based on suggestions. For example, if I input ‘yoga’, I wanted to see mats and rollers, but also related items like aromatherapy vials, wellness gift cards (experiences!), books by Ram Dass, and ayurveda teas. Thanks again for a wonderful app!

Flawed

Day Stars was a much better app, which the developers abandoned to start this one. It is not supported anymore and you can’t find it on App Store. Hip cuts off the top portion of the thumbnail in the card, in most of the cases it’s the persons head. The birthday card wording is weird, this one says “celebrates 16 years” instead of “turned 16 today” in Day Stars. There is a big white stamp in the bottom in hip, instead of a watermark of Day Stars. I still use my Day Star app even its still has some bugs, like you can’t save the birthday reminder card. While improvement is always welcomed but it should be in the right direction.

“hip”? Really?

This app was a fine replacement for my old birthday reminders app that was apparently abandoned by its developers—right up until the time the developers had the utterly boneheaded notion to change both the name and the icon. Make no mistake, the app still works fine, but when you’re looking through page after page of your iOS apps looking for the one with the list of upcoming birthdays, a cartoon hippo head does NOT connote that meaning. Whoever in marketing came up with this idea and whoever in management approved it should be fired for sheer incompetence. Apple is about “just works.” Neither the name nor the iconography “just works” anymore, making this the antithesis of a good product for the Apple ecosphere.
