Walkthrough of ICECOOL made running the game foolproof

Just used this to GM a game of ICECOOL and the walkthrough / game running was excellent. We could start playing without needing to read the rules, excellent for non-readers. The turn by turn instructions that took us all the way through the game were well thought out with actual voice acting to keep the kids engaged.Might not be so great for more complex games but for younger kid games this seems just about perfect.

Hidden Gem!

I’m surprised that this app is not more popular. I used the tutorial feature to teach me how to play Tiny Epic Dungeons. It was INCREDIBLE. The tutorial is made to use as you play and will tell you the rules based off what happens in the game you are playing. I was very impressed with how thorough it was with including extra clarifications and side notes. Wonderful app. I have only used it for this one game so it is possible that their tutorials are not available for every game. Either way I think its worth a try.

Great tool for learning

Awesome app with really helpful tutorials! Would pay good money for all my games to have interactive tutorials like this.

Not as good as I’d hoped

As a family man that enjoys playing all sorts of games with his family and a coder minimalist, I was really excited about Dized when I learned about it. I loved the idea of a digital repository where I could “store” my board game rulebooks. Using Dized, however, is an entirely different story… Its UI just feels clunky and bulky and not well thought out. Navigating between “tabs” is harsh and viewing the hosted tutorials and rules is just weird. It looks like the rules are just web pages viewed from within the application… :/Its features are lacking, too; I wish there was a way to favorite games so you can come back to them later. In addition, I still haven’t figured out what my “credits” are supposed to be used for…

Upside down on my iPad

Whenever I start a tutorial or look at the rules for some game on my iPad (in landscape orientation), the screen flips upside down. It’s really kind of annoying. Please fix!

All depends on the game

Each game is approved by developer, so it all depends on the game, and for the game I used, perfect.

Disappointing

I was one of the backers on this project. As the designated ”rule giver” in my gaming group I was hoping I had found my savior. The result has left me incredibly disappointed. It's been years now, and we barely have a usable library of rule tutorials. There was a promise of having more tutorials after they finished writing the program for other developers to use. This has not been the case. The tutorials they have now are good, but a far cry from what we were promised.

Not as extensive as advertised

I expected hundreds of options for game rules, there are 93. Not a single one for a game I have or have even heard of.

Awful presentation; not worth it

I’ve looked at a few game rules (including the new and hyped Pathfinder), and the presentation is awful on my iPad Pro. Plenty of layout problems like text that’s clipped or overlapping icons. All the pictures are super lo-res and overcompressed. And worst, going through the rules requires arduous navigation between each nugget of text. Exactly how is this better than reading a nicely printed physical rule book that’s conveniently already inside the game box?The only use I can see for this is as a way to read rules for games I’m curious about, but even then, the publishers usually make the actual rule book available for download as a high-res PDF.

Excellent help for board gamers

I enjoy board gaming. My wife does not. It doesn’t help that I’m not very good at explaining rules. However, last night we played KINGDOMino for the first time, and instead of me bumbling through the directions, we pulled up Dized and just ran through the tutorial. It was animated, narrated, and even helped us calculate the score at the end of the game. Of course she beat me 45 to 25. I enjoy playing, and she wins. It’s just how it goes. Regardless, Dized will only continue to get better as they add more games and tutorials. Really looking forward to the future with this app.
